He's a faery, the one that usually makes fun of mortals making them lost their way in the forest and so on.
Once he was hunted by people and wounded badly, but managed to escape into Arawn's Underworld. Madawg was saved by Arawn and stayed to serve his new Master.
Madawg is always optimistic and sunny, even the Underworld couldn't change it.
