I bought him Volks tabi feet; aged in a south windowsill until they more closely matched. Also bought new hands since he came only with a pair of "gun" hands.

Bought on DOA; I'm the 2nd owner. Most expensive doll I've bought to date.

Reason for choice:

I love the F38 face with its irreverent grin. I have no idea how he turned out to be a ne'er-do-well rather than An Urban Cool Guy.

Best Points:

Lookit that face. And the sunlight skin tone is just lovely and ages well.

Worst Points:

The SD13 body is barely large enough for the large SD Volks heads and he can look bobbleheaded very easily. The posing is kind of basic, and I'm not thrilled with the hand positions available. But hey, older sunlight tone, you scoop up what you can find on the secondary market.

he goes through every black/black-brown/dark-brown long wavy/messy wig I have. Then hides the ones he's tired of.

Name story:

Being on the shorter, stockier SD13 body, and sunlight tone, he just seemed like a Hawaiian fellow to me from the beginning. Makani is a Hawaiian name that means wind, and denotes a free spirit, a wanderer.

I think he's in his early 30's, but he's not saying.

Makani comes from Hawaii, also the name of the Big Island. Mostly native Hawaiian, he mentions a Japanese grandmother originally from one of the many Kona coffee farm families, and some Portuguese and other European blood further back, around the time sugar cane plantations were started on the islands.

He's a slacker, a "go with the flow" but determined underachiever who just wants to have enough money to wander around and enjoy life. If he falls in with better-off friends who can help him to enjoy a better grade of life, he's fine with that. And if not - well, there's always a warm beach, the welcoming islands, and a slightly disapproving but accepting family to go back to.
