Makoto got his name from a Discord brainstorming session with his co-creator, the artist who penned his original character design.

Makoto is the youngest in the family and the only boy. He is also the twin brother of Mei, the two only being minutes apart in ages. Despite this, Mei insists on being referred to as a big sister and this has been adopted by all the other members of the family to the point it has become natural for Makoto to refer to his twin as big sister, despite sharing ages, birthdays, and even class at school.

The two twins have been inseparable nearly since birth, both being very quiet and studious children, although Mei has more natural talent in that aspect and is frequently tasked with tutoring her little brother.

Mei's aloof personality also contrasts against Makoto, who is quiet and unassuming yet very considerate and polite, especially to the oldest sister and head-of-house, Kagura. As the babies of the family, the pair have always had unintentionally preferential treatment from their older siblings. While Mei's personality sometimes makes her difficult to love, Makoto is a favourite of all and has been somewhat spoiled in his life.

The twins are both reserved and usually shy away from strange people and places, each only having a very small circle of carefully selected friends outside of each other. These friends are largely mutual, as where one goes, the other follows nearly without exception.
