Reason for choice:

Her sculpt was gorgeous and, back when I ordered her, I thought it might be right for a very specific character. Two years later, I realize I was wrong... but she suits an equally interesting new character!

Best Points:

Gorgeous and realistic sculpt. From her ears to her toes, she's absolutely beautiful.

Worst Points:

She's kicky. Hot glue sueding helped a lot, but her joints are so small I couldn't get them all (specifically her wrists and ankles) without causing problems.

Mara and her twin sister Katje were the youngest born into a family of four. Mara and her older sister, Eleni, were obviously born touched by otherworldly powers. It wasn't something they could hide, it was in everything from their metallic eyes (silver for Mara, gold for Eleni) to their white hair to their innate talents for magic. For Mara, it wasn't a big deal; she was so young, and she was always part of a set with her twin sister, she barely even noticed her differences. Eleni was different. Eleni was some five years older than the twins and was sent to attend the magic academy when Mara was seven. Most of the family was thrilled: Eleni's gifts made her a person of prestige, a rare social climber, someone destined for power and greatness. Their older brother, who was on the track to become a common soldier like their father, was jealous. Dangerously jealous. As Mara and Katje set about the complex task of growing up and looking after their father, their brother retreated into his own projects.

When their sister came home for the harvest festival after her second year at the academy, their brother's jealousy drove him to ruin everything for everyone. That night, he set up a ritual to summon a devil. His intention was to bargain for power. However, he didn't know what he was doing... and everything went wrong. The entity he summoned killed Katje, possessed Mara, and was able to kill almost the entire family before Eleni used her magical training to collapse the family house on Mara's head. Convinced her whole family was dead, Eleni fled back to the academy.

But Mara survived, barely. One of the city guards tasked with sorting through the rubble found her in the wreckage and recognized what was wrong with the girl. He brought her to a friend of his, a cleric aligned with ancient order dedicated to slaying demons, undead creatures, and sundry other monsters. The cleric was able to cure Mara and return her to her senses. The trauma severed her connection to the light magic that had so benefitted her sister, but Mara was able to build a new life for herself with the order. Unsurprisingly, she had little interest in finding the sister that abandoned her after almost killing her. She found a new family and has grown in ways her birth family never could have expected.
