Rae was created during a series of cloning experiments where a villainous scientist was trying to generate a weapon to destroy his heroic "rival". The scientist in question was under the erroneous and rather self-centered belief that the reason he kept losing to the hero was that they were undefeatable by anything but themselves. He continued to create clones of the hero who were all "flawed" in different ways, until he finally got his perfect clone. Said clone then told him where he could shove his ideas and ran off to try and find help to rescue the rest of their siblings. In the meantime, said scientist created a final clone who could not disobey his orders and made them try to destroy his previous failed attempts, including Rae. Said clone siblings escaped through a portal device to different worlds.

Rae, the fourth clone in a line of fourteen, is a cheerful and energetic child. Because their sample was contaminated with the essence of another hero who had plant powers, instead of the energy manipulation powers of the original hero, Rae's powers tend towards nature based magic. Rae has a zest for life and a bit of a hero complex, and loves to help others. As such, they quickly fell in with Kristophe and Siegfried's group of defenders against invaders from another world. Rae managed to convinced the grumpier and shier Zhion, who at the time was suffering from a curse that stole his original body and left him as a shadow person, to join the group as well, and the two eventually fell in love. Together, they managed to defeat the witch who stole Zhion's body and returned him to normal.
