She lives in the distant future, so I chose something a little less conventional. I believe 'Reann' was also a name that had no meaning to go with it.

Reann lived a normal, happy life until she was ten years old. She lost both her parents in an accident, and with no other family to claim her, she was put in an orphanage. A year later, a little-known division of the government decided she was the perfect subject for their latest project.
She was never told what was happening to her or what her purpose was. For four years she's been poked, prodded, injected with strange substances and forced to ingest others. Almost all her organs have been replaced with synthetic ones to keep her from dying; any not necessary to her survival were discarded. She now has a poisonous alien substance inside her that is growing and maturing as she does. In the beginning, it cannot survive without her. In the end, she cannot survive without it.
When the story begins, Reann is being transported to another testing and research lab when a band of space pirates interrupts the journey and steals her. Not wanting to make their project public, the little-known division of the government calls upon the services of a certain ex-Space Force pilot of exceptional skills to retrieve her. . .
