Alice named him after Gambit from the X-Men because of his unique eyes and his ability to create sparky stuff from his hands. No one could pronounce his real name.

Remy literally fell into Alice's lap one day when a dimensional rift opened in her bedroom ceiling. She thought the startled, lost, otherworldly creature was cute and (much to his dismay) decided to keep him as a pet. No one, including him, knows for sure what he is. He's pretty sure he is not a 500 year old emo demon vampire or some such. The fall from the rift wiped most of his memory. Now he is trying to live a some what normal life in an unfamiliar dimension.
