An insular and scholarly boy, content to live in the shadow of the older brother who protected him and whom he hero-worshiped. Rhon's only desire as a child was to continue his schooling and go on to the university in Caerfyrddin, if the local lord could be persuaded to sponsor him. His dream, and his entire world, however was turned on its head when smallpox swept through the Welsh vales. The epidemic claimed his mother's life and his brother's freedom, and it left Rhon almost completely blind. Both he and his grief-stricken father were taken in by Rhon's uncle Gwydion, who has cared for Rhon ever since. Bereft of books, Rhon slowly taught himself to play the harp and then the organ, and while he has since learned to read Braille, it is music that has been his salvation. He is currently the organist at St Dafydd's Cathedral near Caerfyrddin.
Rhon is a quiet and introspective man, but unfailingly kind. He relies on others in order to live and thus is deeply grateful for the kindness and charity that he receives, particularly from his church parish. Raised by his secretly Catholic mother in all manners of spirituality, Rhon feels most at peace in the vaulted cathedral where he plays every weekend.
