Reason for choice:

I've loved this sculpt since I joined the hobby in 2011; a friend had one, although he was a different release/face-up version. Finally came full circle after going through most doll sizes and deciding that really the 1/6 scale was more what I wanted.

Best Points:

His resin is so wonderfully smooth and weighty. I like that he is a little slouchy, although he can stand on his own if you take care.

Worst Points:

His factory plastic eyes were hot glued in, and removing the glue to change his eyes was a major pain!

His magic leaf!

I made his jinbei (Japanese festival outfit) from actual Japanese yukata fabric, purchased while I was living there in 2008-10. I made his leaf and tail from felts.

Name story:

When I first pulled him out of his shipping bubble wrap, he looked like a Rin to me. I've always thought it was a cute name. I researched different ways for it to be written with kanji, and I chose the character for "tiny forest" or "grove of trees" since he is a tanuki.

Personality: Rin is a tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog). He uses his magic leaf to transform into a human child and do other tricks. Because he’s just a baby tanuki, his magic isn’t very strong yet, so that tail just won’t hide... Please don't point it out! It hurts his feelings.
