Name story:

I wanted something pretty sounding, and something not really commonly used for a name. As I started developing her character more, I also decided I wanted something with a bit of a romantic feel to it and music related to tie in with her powers.

Serenade is based off of the Japanese yokai, bakeneko. She was once a normal, small white cat who was taken in by a couple who were very much in love. They treated her exceptionally well, often spoiling her and doting on her whenever they had the chance. It was probably due to her rich lifestyle that she ended up living an unusually long life for a cat. As she surpassed the average lifespan of a feline, her tail had slowly begun to grow longer and longer, and she even started to grow in size. The longer her tail became and the bigger she got, the more her supernatural powers increased. She was becoming noticeably larger, to the point where she knew she wouldn't be able to conceal it from her sweet owners. She felt it would be in their best interest to leave them and her beloved home behind, as she did not want to frighten or possibly endanger the people who have shown her nothing but love and kindness with her newfound incredible powers.

Not long after she had left, Serenade grew to the size of a human and gained the ability to stand and walk upright, and her new powers were stronger than ever. She began to wander from city to city, often hanging around popular spots where couples flock to for a romantic rendezvous. Seeing happy couples provided Serenade some comfort, as they reminded her of home. On some nights, especially on clear ones when the moon is shining brightly, she will sing a beautiful melody that will echo throughout the sky, and any couple who is lucky enough to hear it will have their amorous feelings for one another amplified and it will also bound them together forever. Her ballad became somewhat of a popular legend among lovers, and many go out of their way in hopes to be able to hear it. While Serenade truly does love bringing happiness to people using her powers, there is also another much darker reason as to why she sings her sweet love songs, which is to weed out the liars and the cheats. These people will not be affected in the slightest by her melody, marking them as Serenade's prey. Serenade will stalk them and watch them like a hawk, waiting for the perfect moment to pounce. The very second that they are left alone, even for just the shortest while, she will preemptively strike. She moves so swiftly, that her targets don't even catch a glimpse of her, or even know what hit them. Other times, Serenade will transform herself into a gorgeous and alluring woman and appear before her target. She uses her charm to seduce them and convinces them into going off with her, only to be led to a secluded area and become witness to her true form, and then devoured.

Serenade is also not above using her powers on people to entrance them and have them bring her lavish gifts, such as fancy seafood dishes, jewels, mirrors, silver bells, silk pillows, and so on. She's not used to doing without pretty and nice things and not being waited on, so this is how she copes. She also has a vain streak, and grooms herself fairly often and enjoys dressing up in frilly and lacy things.
