A being of twilight and stardust, to crown the earth with the heavens' beauty. The Erlking is the physical embodiment of things beyond- a lasting remnant of a time before now. He sits atop the Court of Seelie, overseeing all fae things fair and light-like, and little escapes his notice.

What a common misconception, the idea that Seelie equates with goodness. Anyone versed in the fae knows well not all Seelie are kind, and some Unseelie can be generous. While most think of the Erlking as just, many of his subjects are tricksters and frauds, taunting the mortal realm with their magic for personal gain. The man himself is seldom seen in waking worlds, and even then, usually at night in the deep woods. Blessed, it is written, are those who witness his hunting party passing by on their steeds, glowing softly like the pale moon.

So what of Seelie's monarch? He is timeless, soft-spoken, reserved. He transcends masculine and feminine, landing somewhere in between, and his full splendor is said to make men falter and women weep. A painter and lover of poetry. Sonnets have been composed in his name, yet he rarely entertains beyond diplomats or the most private soirees. His is time spent thinking, making careful decisions, and listening always to the trade winds. Only the Court and the closest hamlets are regularly haunted by his presence....

...And the Grand Malvolomancer.

Four times a year- once with every season- the three Courts are joined in session. The Malvolomaster oversees both Seelie and Unseelie as they make their reports on the way of things, and council one another on how to proceed. It is not always a matter of kindness or mercy, but of balance. Because the fae exist in the space between tactile universes, the scope of power does not rest so much on individual magic, but the limitless access to all those worlds and their resources. It's incredible. It is dangerous, and must be severely moderated to avoid wars and disasters.

Eye to Ear, Hand to Hand.

Of course this all sounds very mystical. Even the most ancient of beings must find some respite. For the Erlking, it is difficult to divest himself of his title and association. For a brief period during the first wars, he was many things: a clockmaker, a revolutionary, a musician, flying long errands on gossamer wings. When he can, he tries to touch base with those parts of himself long-forgotten, but they are dim echoes, and the people who filled those streets are gone.

He is alone.

Authoritative.

Wondrous.
