  • Face-up artist(s):
    Ringdoll
    Date of acquisition:
    April 2016
    Provenance:
    Bought directly from company
    Reason for choice:
    Back when I knew nothing about BJDs, I saw a picture of Qinzhe as well as Ringdoll Meng He. I fell in love instantly, and fell even more in love when I read the company's story. So as I began to seriously consider getting a BJD, I knew he'd be the one I'd get.
    Best Points:
    Gorgeous company faceup, especially the eyeliner. His body is elegantly sculpted and the tension remains nice and taut, so posing him is still as easy and intuitive as it was when I first got him.
    Worst Points:
    His Chinese opera headdress is beautiful. But it also an ENORMOUS pain. So is his outfit; it really gets in the way of his posing.

    "You want to see me live out the rest of my days like a dog? I'll show you what I'll become."

    I don't see my Qinzhe as being a different character from the company sculpt, because I like their story so much. The gist of it is that he is a Chinese opera performer--a dan, who performs female roles--from some time in Old China, who lost everything due to the evil machinations of his former childhood friend, Meng He. Now Qinzhe lives for revenge against Meng He, but things get more complicated when they meet again.

    Personality-wise, Qinzhe used to be a sweet, naive good boy; now he's worldly, cynical, sharp-tongued, and lives for nothing but his revenge. He basks in the energy of the stage and a good performance, but loathes his meaningless life at the same time. He is a master at the veiled insult. Most of his fellow actors live in fear of him, as he is indisputably the star of their troupe.
