1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

a bjd's lifespan

Mar 17, 2008

    1. I wouldn't worry too much, as long as you look after them they'll last as long as you want them. I've had my first doll nearly 5 years. Yes she doesn't look 'new' anymore (she's 5! lol) and she's a little loose, where I've never re-strung her, but she has no damage what so ever about her. Dolls do discolor over time but it takes years. Yellowing can be sanded off, sometimes it adds a nice creamy tone to the doll. :) face ups can be re painted and the stringing can be replaced. Just have fun with your doll, don't worry about it breaking or not lasting, you'll be to scared to touch it and that's a shame, these dolls are meant to be loved and played with! :)

    2. Trust me, if you take proper care of your doll, he/she will outlive YOU.

    3. ^that.
When I bought my first doll, I gave him the name Afanasiy which meant immortal. I expect him to always be beautiful regardless of how yellow and how old he may turn. He (they) can always be repaired and fixed and that's what keeps me in this hobby. It's amazing! :)

    4. I'm new at the BJD hobby, and I've been skimming through this thread. I was wondering, is there a thread/tutorial on how to properly take care of your BJD to prevent it from yellowing? People have been saying that there's special coats that you can use to prevent it from yellowing as fast, and ways of making it look less yellow, but I haven't found anything specific. Thanks!

    5. Wow, the ending results of the experiment looks awesome. Thanks for the link! [:

    6. I've though about the yellowing alot and in most cases of my dolls, it doesn't bother me. Actually I'm excited for my Pipos charlotte to yellow, that'll give me an excuse to dye her pitch black and feel like I have an all new girl! Enjoying her beautiful paleness too much right now though

    7. I have to say that if even if my dollies turned neon orange over time I would not care. Lets face it EVERYTHING yellows, even the lenses on the human eye yellow with age, so much so in fact that the older you are the less you'll be able to see the color purple. I have an in box Spiderman from ten years ago and the plastic on him is amber colored now. It happens, big woop.

My hubby's not always going to be mint in box either but I'm not gonna ditch him when he starts falling apart. Ageing is something we all have to deal with and while things may be long lasting, nothing on earth is permanent.

    8. I'm sure I'll love my dolls even if they yellow. My first doll I got second-hand, and looking at her compared to my newer dolls, I can tell she is slightly yellowed but I still love her just the same. (:

    9. when i brought a lati of ebay i was wondering how a new doll could be yellowing already, so if you were to kept them behind a glass cabinet would that slow down the yellowing process, does anyone have a pic of a bjd that has yellowing?

    10. Resin turns more yellowish because of the exposure to direct light and the natural chemical reactions due to air oxidation processes.
Yellowing will occur even if your bjd's are kept inside a glass cabinet or just in a box for months. The difference will be the span of time the yellowing takes to appear.
I keep my bjd's in their boxes where they won't be so directly exposed to light and dust. In spite of all these precautions, they still need periodical maintenance, and I think that this side of the hobby is as important as any other. Maybe more tedious, but still important.
In the future, I'd like to pass my bjds to my grandchildren so I expect them to have a very long lifespan. ^^

    11. Correct even air yellows, but air yellows more evenly than light.

    12. My dolls will stay with me until I'm old. That would be amazing for so many reasons.

    13. I've had my two boys for a year..and my little girl (My Nara) for over a year.

B (Nara) has chips from where I took her on vacation with me for some photos..She became unstable and fell onto a fountain base. It's no big deal..just her face up. (Her little pink nose is white now)

As for the boys (Both Souldoll)..I've not had much to do with them since I moved twice since I got them. However, immediately out of the box, both boys' eyelashes fell off and Henry's wrists, ankles, and neck were all cracked. Not sure what to do about that.

I plan on having these guys forever. I've not been brave enough yet to venture into faceups for them..or any type of modding (I want Henry to have stretched ears and a few piercings) but hopefully one day I will.

Can't wait to get a girl for them...They're well worth the money, IMHO

    14. I had heard that the souldoll body has issues with the resin being too thin in thoes areas, I wish they would work on the issue!

    15. I just think that yellowing will give it character. I do not mind. I will keep karma forever.

    16. DiSpy that's a good question and now l'm interested in this as well also l agree with what as said.

    17. Do you mean the question that DiSpy posted back in 2008, on the first page of this thread, about the oldest ABJD someone on this forum owns? Several of us (as we've posted in this thread and in the related threads I've linked a couple of times above) have 1999 Volks Four Sisters. Since those were the first resin Asian ball-jointed dolls released for commercial sale, those would be the oldest ones anyone here could own.

Hmmmm, unless there's a Pink Panther of dolls who broke into Tenshi-no-Sato, stole the first-FIRST resin BJD from the display, and replaced her with a ringer . . . :apirate:

    18. My Hypermaniac Jamie 2001 hasn't yellowed. She still looks wonderful.

You just can't beat that early Hyper resin.
