A frank, mature discussion about doll-vaginas. (nudity)

Oct 24, 2010

    1. I buy BJDs if the sculpt calls my attention, and if they have good poseability that's so much better! but I never look down there to see if they're genitals are of my taste. Even so, this is a very interesting topic just to see everyone else's opinion. In any case, I would not mind having a boy or girl with realistic genitals but it would look weird to have just some realistic parts, (just the genitals? what about the face, the hands, the nipples, body hair etc) it would look funny to see very realistic genitals with a dolly face, semi-realistic breasts, ass and so on. I prefer them them stylized and simplified :)

Also, I agree with others who said that when a woman is standing you can hardly see the vagina except for a slit and in some cases, a little skin hanging there and the clitoris is not visible unless the girl is excited, or if she is with her legs wide-opened and I wouldn't do that, I have no need to take pictures of a doll with spread legs...it is just wrong...for me. Well I'm not an expert in vaginas^^ and everyone is different...I'm just judging from what I have seen...

    2. I dont rally care about the detail on the doll's genitals... It is true though that most male genitalia are more detailed than female, but then, again, their genitalia are external. Female genitalia are generally not exposed, even in art class the inner parts are not noticeable unless the model has their legs wide open, I agree with Kiyakotari, it would look uncomfortable.

Its a matter of tastes, if she does not have detailed genitallia you can mod them, if they ate tooo detailed, you can sand them. Its really difficult to keep everyone happy.

    3. Heehee...I had a friend who worked at a sex shop. The idea of a BJD being a "sex doll" strikes me funny...Sex dolls are "sex-dolls" because they vibrate or, because you can insert a penis inside. BJDs can't do THAT!

The vagina has a lot of complex folds and tucks and there's a ALOT going on down there.

My FTM doll is the only doll with a vagina I'd mod, because of the physical changes one gets due to taking "T" hormones.

But I'm not going to spend a lot of time making every fine detail...:P

I want some detail, but like the rest of my BJD, it's going to be pretty stylised. I really like that ^_^

I mean... if I made an entire actually dolly vagina, things would become very complicated. How many parts of a vagina are there? I can think of 4 off the top of my head...

And if my doll had an anatomically correct vagina, I don't think He/she/zey could wear pants anymore.

:< If my doll couldn't wear pants because their vagina was too big, I'd cry u_u (And that sounds kind of painful! That'd really suck :-( )

    4. This kind of makes me roll my eyes. A lot of these posts (not all) are talking about vaginas that have clearly visible folds, but a good lot of woman do not have visible folds even when sitting or lying. For those woman these "rough slits, gouged into her[bjd]" are what they have.

It doesn't even sound like an artistic argument to me, but a "well I (specifically) have, so my ball-jointed doll should also have..." Which, great. Honestly. But to say it's merely from an artistic standpoint would show ignorance to a basic knowledge of the differences in woman bodies.

And that's ignoring the fact that the majority of ball-jointed dolls are meant to represent pre-pubescent, or just nudging puberty, children anyway. That Volks SD may look mature, but it was originally intended by the company to be a child of 10 years old.

    5. I have hopes of buying a female doll soon, and honestly if they were detailed in any manner other than just the slit I wouldn't have any intentions on buying one, even if I could mod it off. Vagina's are scary to me, and I think that if my boys don't have detailed junk, other than a lump [I understand that some boys are circumcised and detailed in that manner.] my girls shouldn't have anything other than a slit. But like many things in this world, it's all about taste, if that's your personal taste I don't think anything should stop you from doing what you want with your doll. That's what the hobbies about, customization and making your doll perfect for you.

    6. I have for some time been obsessing over Marina Bychkova's Enchanted Dolls. I LOVE them and want one so badly but unless I win the lottery that just isn't ever going to happen.

That being said....very recently she auctioned off one of her rubinesque dolls. I watched the auction until it ended at over $27,000 US. But, when I looked closely at the doll's photos, there was something so odd about her genital area that I actually had to enlarge it to see what the heck it was. There at the start of her little area was this big red button looking thing. If it was supposed to be a dolly clitorus then it was waaaay out of proportion for the rest of the doll in my humble opinion. As much as I love her work and profoundly respect her as an artist, I have to say the size of that thing really turned me off to that particular doll. No disrespect to Ms Bychkova. Just a matter of taste and perception.

    7. I like realistic, adult looking dolls so it would be something that appealed to me. Mine spend about as much time clothed as unclothed (hey, I didn't put all that effort into blushing for nothing! lol) so it wouldn't just be covered away.

It's not too much of an issue though, can always paint them up to look a little more realistic anyway.

    8. To be honest I'm kind of glad they don't have highly detailed genitalia. If I need to see a realistic vagina, I'm gonna go for a real woman lol...not a doll. At the end of the day they're just dolls. Don't take that the wrong way but yeah.So maybe it's a girl thing, but do you girls just like take your dolls pants off and stare at it? lol B/c otherwise, why does it matter? If it's covered up with clothes why do you care? Would you just feel better knowing that there's a realistic vagina under there? lol I feel bad when I take her pants off and I didn't like "playing" with my DD til I sewed her some shorts. So for me their detailed enough as they are.

    9. I don't mind either way. I like gender-bending :)

    10. As an artist and lover of the female form, I agree I would like to see a teeny bit more detail on the female dolls, especially the ones who are meant to look like mature women. It's not for 'being sexy' (anymore then the peens on the men) or even for photos, but to me as a sculptor myself it seems like a disservice to indeed just put a simple line down there when the rest of the doll is lovingly muscular, realistic and curvy. I have seen older male dolls with nicely shaped (of course simplified but it is there) man bits, the girls deserve it too.

By that I mean at least a sculpted pubic mound and not just an 'afterthought line', that is about all I'd expect from major company produced dolls. Though a clit on mature age dolls is something I WOULD like to see more, I just don't expect it.

I myself put a simple clit (poking out of the vulva slit area) onto MY doll I sculpted, but that also is extra detail I'd expect more form artist dolls.

That was a sculpt that came to mind, that is the kind of lovely simple mound look I'd love to see on more mature age dolls.

Agreed (mostly on the bolded parts)!

    11. I honestly could care less if my doll has accurate genitals, be it male or female.

    12. She's putting out a line of resin dolls now. The resin versions have the same detailed genitalia.

    13. I'm not particularly bothered by lack of genital detail on principle of requiring more realism. Rather, I would simply like to see more dolls that had genitalia fitting of their aesthetic; it is a bit awkward to see a magnificently sculpted and mature girl with a faint indentation of a line for a vagina. It kinda throws me when everything else about a doll is done with a lot of care and precision only to have one part stand out because it's lacking in something that the rest of the doll has, no matter what the part.

That being said, where genitalia are concerned, there are also matters of practicality to observe. Especially in males; larger can be a detriment to clothing. For girls, the physical space left available between the legs.

    14. For me, the detail in the genitalia would be the last thing I would consider in a BJD...perhaps in a nude art doll that was otherwise realistically detailed in every other way so, hence, you would expect the genitalia to be paid the equal amount of attention BUT in an otherwise stylised BJD, not at all. I am more than happy for everything to be stylised and simplified down-stairs as it means less to worry about when appropriately clothing dolls. I could understand if someone wanted their BJD to be more like a highly pose-able nude figurative art piece why such detail might be highly desirable but for me it's all about character and great miniature clothing so such a level of detail would be superfluous.

    15. I do not like genitalia in dolls, in this case, the vulva.

I find it embarrassing and please, don't take me for a sexually oppressed , I just don't see a reason for it to be there, in the first place. Okay, the dolls is perfectly sculpted and realistic, but what's the point? Unless you want to take naked pictures of your doll, I don't see a reason for genitalia, or you plan to go telling '' hey! under this pants there are realistic sculpted genitalia!"

I would be very embarrassed if I had a doll with vulva and some other non-doll person saw it, I bet that the first thing they would say would be: '' why?''

So no, definitively no vulva in dolls for me.

    16. my dolls can have tictacs and knife cut and that's way enough for me!
I don't really look or show their genitals so what's the point?

    17. cant say i'd really care, unless your constantly looking at it all the time there isn't much point to it, i mean yes it would make it more realistic but for what purpose, male dolls on the other hand...as with men we all know our male parts stick out, bulges in underwear for example, so for realism purposes it can make a male doll look more manly, a vagina doesn't have that aesthetic, a female doll in underwear looks for all intended purposes just like a female ...it serves its purpose.

also one big factor here, if female dolls were to have more realistic vaginas what would they look like....give me two vaginas that look the same? in reality EVERY one is different, from protruding labia to none at all and everything in between, what company would bother to sculpt a different one on every doll?

i am more concerned with things like body shape, boobs, hips etc, these are the things that help shape clothes, are visible and from a photography point of view these are what matters...not whats between her legs.

i do think doll manufactures are getting more and more realistic though, these days its fairly normal to see nipples and even ones fully painted, and with male dolls starting to get more real down below, i wouldn't be surprised if one heads that direction. ...i mean look at the silicone replacement bodies for DD dolls? some of those are pretty close to real..and a little creepy

come to think of it....i just realized i have no idea what my isabelle has, i've never looked...lol, she's worn panties since the day i got her, i respect her privacy :D

    18. As has been said before - not every woman has got sticking out vulvas and clitoris's (clitorii?). My boobs don't have sticking out nipples but they've got them on the dolls (I opt for sanding them down as I don't want to ruin the line of the clothing with her headlights on).

I don't have them and I frankly would be a bit embarrassed if my doll had that all hanging out for everyone to see. Gee - some women get them trimmed back if they're that large. I can just see it - nice pair of leggings and then BAMMM, camel toe. It would make it harder to dress them and very hard to put them in a saddle stand - guys are a pain in the arse as you have to put them to the left or right if using them.

If you're that worried then ask a sculpting company to make a doll that anatomically correct. If they get enough people asking for them then I'm sure they'd do them.

    19. I'm still waiting on my first bjd, but to be honest, this issue has already crossed my mind. It is a MSD size doll, but I intend her to be an adult, so I was considering painting pubic hair on her. After reading this thread I've decided I'm definitely going to add the hair and, depending on what she looks like down there, probably add appropriate blushing and maybe even a little more. Obviously a lot of people prefer a non-detailed doll. However, obviously some people (myself included) prefer to have more detail, and I can actually see how the lack of female genital detail can be off-putting (I'm female). I guess I think of toes. Why have a doll with toenails or dimples on the feet when they'll be wearing shoes most of the time? Well, because they might show, and I paid a lot for a realistic doll so I want them to have those details. Same with the vulva. And btw, both photos of the doll vuvla modifications look tasteful to me.

    20. Well, my IH boy has a detailed penis. And my BBB has a scrotum. (just came that way)
But all my characters for the dolls are very gender based. So I would like my "older characters" to have a bit more detail. Not a doll thats ment to be like 6 years old or something.

Other then worrying about some breaking, I would like for the girls to have some more detail. Not a bunch. But some more. I would also like pubic hair on her. Along with my boys.
