A frank, mature discussion about doll-vaginas. (nudity)

Oct 24, 2010

    1. ...I want to take beautiful nude photographs of my dolls. I don't want to have sex with them. What?

    2. But then you assume that people are interested in realistic vulvae on their doll, because of some sexual fantasy. In my case, when I'm buying a realistically sculpted doll, I'd like all parts of the body and head to be sculpted in the same style, and with the same amount of detail.

    3. What say you? are slits okay, since they are just dolls? is it embarrassing that our perfect, beautiful resin children are smooth and sexless? Would a vulva be ugly, or offensive?

I think that the parts of a doll should match in detail. Faces are very important and those should have the most attention to detail. But if the body is very realistic and detailed, then it would seem more odd to have certain parts be unrealistic and not detailed.

So... slits are enough if the doll body is simplified and not so realistic or detailed, like the early Volks dolls, SD-10s and even 13s, and other dolls that have less mature proportions. And even in more mature dolls, if their sculpts are more stylized... slits can be good enough. I think most dolls fall into this category... Sometimes the slits seem too crude and simple in comparison to the rest of the sculpt, though.

BUT, as I don't really bother with nude shots and have my dolls clothed, I don't really worry much about it.

The dolls aren't sexless, really, even with a slit. I mean, they've got something down there! And they also have breasts, which are sexual characteristics. If the dolls were perfectly smooth down there and didn't have breasts, THEN they'd be sexless.

I guess it doesn't really matter that much to me. I wouldn't mind something more than a slit on my more realistic dolls, but I really don't worry about it much!

(The guys sometimes have pretty sketchy parts, too! And it's a bit more obvious when looking at them. At least with the girls we can assume there are all the right parts there, just hidden... with the boys... not so much! They can be poor ball-less, underdeveloped creatures! -- but, again, I do try to put them in pants and pretend they have everything, and in an average size at least.)

    4. OMG... What?! I'm laughing so hard right now.

      I don't think ANY of us are talking about having sex with our dolls XD;

    5. Never thought I'd say this on the forum, but... that's actually kind of offensive, to imply that wanting uniform detail on our doll's bodies means we have some sexual fetish. Like others have pointed out, if this was the case, then why not have all bjd bodies be smooth, without breasts, bellybuttons, and completely sexless? I don't think anyone has implied that they want their doll is have a vagina, just a vulva (the outside part).

    6. Actually I wouldn't be disturbed by that, at least not on adult dolls. It would only make them even more anatomically correct and to me that can also mean artistically correct, and no I don't want to have sex with my dolls, I just like them to look more like the humans they're supposed to represent. LOL Back in Renoir's day a painter didn't have a cow at the idea of painting a woman with hair on her pubes. People keep telling me that BJD's are more than just dolls, they're art. Well art often involves nudity, sensuality so I don't see why the adult dolls shouldn't be made to look more like their proper gender. It would creep me out a bit to see child dolls overtly sexualized but the adult ones? Why not pubes? Why not go all the way?

Some of our dolls are nearly there already. Think about it, the anime influence. I mean all these cute young girl dolls with their HUGE boobs, and "Oops!" expressions what's that about if not SEX? People around here are always sexing up their dolls in fetish gear besides. Raise your hands. How many of you have big boobed girl dolls all dressed up in Lolita style? Pretty boys all dressed up in leather fetish outfits? Why even bother giving a doll a look like that, a back story with a sexual preference, if it's just a sexless doll? Might as well go all the way and give the doll proper genitalia I think if you're going to give them an imaginary sex life anyway, eh?

I've seen it all on this board. Straight dolls, gay dolls, bi dolls, asexual dolls, dolls with 2 significant others, dolls that have been supposedly sexually abused, kid dolls that frankly look like sex workers all dressed up for work. Sex toys made for the supposed use of dolls. I mean come on, what's adding a realistic vagina/penis and balls and some realistic pubic hair compared doing to all that? No big deal, grin...

    7. This is really pitiful. Why would you ever assume I would think you'd want to have sex with your dolls?

Actually, I am told the blowup kind are detailed...... just thought I'd be helpful, that's all.

    8. Actually, blow-up dolls are less detailed. They're just very sad cousins of the good ol' floaty wings. Not really the direction you'd like to go if you're looking for realism and aesthetic appeal. ;) (Of course, I may be wrong on this account since I haven't really done much market research in this area. But from my casual encounters, I think they're more useful as a flotation device than a display piece. YMMV.)

I do think that the point about male genitals being just as tacked-on as female ones to be a good one. I think I've owned... one? doll that had genitals that looked kind of like maybe they were shaped intentionally? And that was a Soom boy with his uni-ball. Which was actually a uni-ball I can understand because there's no way he'd be able to move his legs if he had both of them - the pelvic piece in that area was just too narrow.

So I think I'd like to see more detail on sculpts of both sexes - if they're sculpted realistically everywhere else, that is, just for the purposes of uniformity.

    9. I have seen blow up, life size etc from Google and you tube and tv shows with obsessed people. They look nothing like bjd.
Bjd are exotic, miniature detailed versions of us. I believe dolls have their own lives, they need to use the bathroom etc, so they need those parts in order.
I think detailed genitalia is ok on dolls

    10. I am generally not picky either way about the detail of my doll's genitalia. However, I think having a good, realistic genitalia would be a really cool thing to see, both as a collector and artistically speaking. I do, however, get uncomfortable when there is a hint on younger dolls... even just a slit on a doll that looks to be under the age of ten makes me feel very awkward and wanting to cover them up.

    11. Very amused by reading all of this I have to say

I dont have any kind of weird doll fantasies but I would very much like my dolls very realistic, so yes realistic everything please.
There seem to be a lot of people having issues with realistic parts even nipples so I would imagine there would be even more people going against the whole detailed private parts idea, not me tho

All tho I agree with ladygabe if its a younger doll it would feel a bit wrong, so maybe just for adult versions?

Above all I think its important to have a good amount of variety to make everyone happy, we cant agree on everything but we can at least agree that there are a lot of different doll preferences and we should respect each one without being too judgmental about it.

    12. While I am in no way a prude, I grew up with sexually generic Barbie and Ken dolls, and was frankly a bit put off by BJD's genitalia at first. And because my male dolls are going to represent characters who are neuter, I am considering de-sexing them entirely.

I would not like extremely explicit genitals on female or male dolls. But if that's your thing, neither do I have a problem with that. Your dolls are what you make them so make them what you want.

    13. I can't understand why some people are a little offended by the idea of the doll having detailed female genitals and thinking the people that would like the detail want it for sexual reasons. I think maybe that's an issue with the person in general.
I mean come on, the guys have veins in their pee pees. ;) If that's not over board I don't know what is, what do they need veins for? They don't have blood!
I personally don't care too much about the shape of my girls' hooha, they have clothes on 100% of the time, the only time they get it out is when I change them from one outfit to the next. Same with my guys, I don't shoot them nude. However if you do shoot the dolls nude I can understand wanting that detail. I always want my dolls to look as real as possible.

    14. Lingerie shoots and topless shoots are as far as I would go. Having a detailed down there is.. I suppose a bit too much and unnecessary for me. I personally do not look at it for more than a few seconds and this happens only when I am undressing/dressing my doll. And I most certainly would not like others to stare and "admire" it either. I feel my doll would not like it one bit. That is just me, I respect what others think.

    15. This has given me a bit of a giggle, especially the 'blow up' comment, which I think has been blown out of proportion (bad pun :sweat )

As for the topic, I don't think I would want to see dolls with vulvas, nor do I really want to see hugely detailed penises. I find that for dolls, as unsexual objects, many people wouldn't want to see it either. Maybe for the niche collector someone will make it?
But I think for the mass of bjd owners the 'slit' is unoffensive and doesn't interfere with the joints of clothing.

In fact I think they're are even kinda dainty and cute

    16. I dont really care for the detail o there privates because they are always covered and the fact I cant open a doll in front o my 22 year old sister because she has a filthy mind and it is always the first theing she comments on!!!

    17. I found this conversation really interesting. Even though I personally don't really want realistic genitals on either my female or male dolls I think it's great that bjds are so customizable that you can make them what you want if you have the skills to do so and I think anyone should do what they like with their doll. I don't think I would buy a doll that came from the factory with a really realistic vulva on it, neither would I buy a doll with a really realistic penis on it. But that's just my preference. I also wouldn't buy a doll with gigantic boobs or extreme muscles because that isn't my taste but I think it's great that companies make them because for some people that is their taste and it's great that there is so much variety in bjds. There is something for everyone. So I'd be fine with some companies making more anatomically correct dolls for the people who want them.

A far as dolls that just have a slit: even though I don't want it to look hyper-realistic I prefer them to look soft and gentle, more like a real woman. I just got an Illusion Spirit YOSD and I think everything about her is awesome and beautiful but one of the first things negative thing that I noticed about her is that the vulva area on her body is depicted by not just a line but more like a slot cut into her resin. It has sharp ridges on the sides and is in no way soft or nice looking. This is too extreme to the other side of realism and I really don't like it. So I think there should be a happy medium.

All of that being said I love the idea of a little dolly merkin for artistic nude photo shoots for female and male dolls. I'd like to see more of that. I think it would be cute and add to the realism of the photos :).

    18. I imagine if you had a detailed slit with full genitalia not only would it look unusual unless you just wanted it peeking through the slit, but it if there was depth it may even weaken that area of the resin. Plus no one wants their precious dolls to get camel toe.

    19. i'll be honest, when i found out dolls had genitalia it scared me off of them for a while. it really did just plain old weird me out.

i know it will come off prude but i really dont like them having them. it's just a little....weird. the doll i finally got does have like a little slit but nothing more. i think it's because you goina have there clothing on most of the time so why? and nude shots of a tiny fake human just seem (and i'm sorry to those who do them) gross.

nipples on the other hand, that doesnt bug me so much. i know thats hardly fair but they really dont bother me so much, so long as they are just like dots, i wouldnt like them if they had areola i think it'd be a little more weirded out. it just seems to add that stuff makes them to sexual.

    20. I am glad there are choices for every taste. People appreciate different things. Personally I am not weirded out easily, as you can see from my choice of boys. What I learnt from the very short time I'm in this hobby though is, that I do appreciate details and realism most, as for muscles, veins and such....I've discovered an admiration for the artists' work behind body sculpting and feel what I really need is not gimmicks but quality. I'm sorry I don't have girls so I can't speak from real experience except it would make me sad if vulvas were "taboo". But I think you can find quality not exclusively, but also in refined, realistic modelling of every detail of the body, as it's been said before, to make it "whole" - not missing any part, be it public or private. Another thing: I was just thinking of how even such plain objects like pillows can become "sexual", so I think there are different triggers for everyone.
