A frank, mature discussion about doll-vaginas. (nudity)

Oct 24, 2010

    1. compared to other genre of dolls I think BJDs are usually spot on as private parts go
I don't like the genderless barbie type doll but don't want full on porno-dolls either
In fact the nobility doll emotional body is a bit much for me - it makes me wonder 'why?!' and what on earth do people DO with it?!

I think the 15y dollstown girl is my favourite. Realistic and yet not OTT

    2. First of all, I don't think that realistic bodies of dolls are in any way offensive. After all, the human body is a work of art!
The only problem is, BJD owners vary in age, some being as young as 6 (if parents own them, and they choose to let their kid carefully handle them; I've heard of it) to being older. That being said, I don't think parents would like their kids seeing a "too-detailed" body on a doll. I know they're going to learn of it sometime, I just know parents that would probably either a) not let their kid have a doll because of it or, b) not let them handle/dress them if the parents owned them. I know if I got a male BJD and I opened the box to a naked, detailed boy, my mom wouldn't be too thrilled xD

I guess if it were optional, that'd be okay, since some people prefer to have more detail in their dolls' bodies when they photograph them naked (I don't, which is why it's not too important to me). I think the companies are just being cautious because of their audience.

    3. You know that comment made me giggle so hard until I remembered Buff Dolls had a fix for BJD ED. It's like dollie viagra...except made out of resin.

    4. First, allow me to say this is a very...strange topic.

Are slits okay, since they are just dolls?

Yes; I don't have any plans to take pictures of my dolls in the nude, so what their parts look like (realistic or not) has never been an issue for me.

Is it embarrassing that our perfect, beautiful resin children are smooth and sexless?

No, because they're dolls, not people; my Barbies were even more 'sexless' and that never bothered me at all.

Would a vulva be ugly, or offensive?
It would look weird to me; not 'offensive', but... out of place. People buy these dolls for a lot of reasons, and some of us aren't into having our dolls look realistic down to the last detail, though others are. I think people who don't want to have a doll with such detailed privates might hurt a company that might go into making them, because they risk alienating a large group of potential buyers. Not everyone who doesn't want realistic parts is going to want to go through the trouble of sanding off the extra pieces, or paying someone else to do it.

    5. I'm another one who doesn't take pics or even leave her dolls nude. I've come to like the fact that they aren't weirdly blank down there, because my characters are all either girls or boys, but a reasonable suggestion of their junk is fine with me. I wouldn't really want more. I only have one girl, and I spend next to no time looking between her legs. She's 12, too, so I wouldn't want a really detailed look down there. I will admit that I find myself less comfortable with girl bits than boy bits on a doll, and I have girl bits :sweat. I don't find genitalia in general beautiful. I don't think there's anything wrong with them, but they're just not lovely to me. And when even the more "realistic" sculpts don't reflect ALL the detail of the human body, I don't need extra detail in the genitalia.

    6. I like the fact that both the girl and guy dolls have have genitalia, and I find that bodies without those parts look odd and incomplete (with the exception of some of the really little kid dolls -- I don't tend to notice either way with them). However, having said that, I don't need them to be super detailed -- I wouldn't be at all offended if they where, but it's just not something that's really important to me. In general, I don't do a lot of nude photography, and they don't run around naked so I don't spend a lot of time really looking at those parts of the body. With females, you don't really see a lot anyway (which is the point -- the actual vagina is protected).

    7. To clarify, I really like the fact dolls have bits. But I don't want hair, or inner labia, or any sort of overly done realism. All I want is realistic shape.

Breasts are relatively hard to screw up, in my opinion. They may be too high, too big, too round, or whatever, but they're boobs - and they're also dolls. Unrealness begets unrealness.

    8. Honestly, the type of bits my dolls has doesn't really matter to me in one way or the other. Other then being glad that the younger-looking dolls aren't overly detailed because it would remind me of too much pedophilia, the way most of them is sculpted is just fine.

If you're going to look for one that's more detailed, you could always try the 60cm Narae. I don't know if the MSD-sized girls are the same, but I know when I got my big girl and saw the way her genitalia was pretty surprising to me. It's not super-mega-uber detailed, but it's enough that it's quite shocking if you're expecting the "normal" style of sculpting.

That being said, I usually keep underwear on my dolls just because I don't want them to flash people when I have them out on the town, and I take them out quite often. Work, doll-meets, general out-on-the-townishness. Unless someone gets extremely curious and I let them have a look in a discreet way so that no one around us gets offended, they don't get taken out of their underoos and panties.

Now I just need a bra for my big girl. :P Mostly because it feels funny to have her wearing panties but not a bra, even though her bust was sanded down heavily before I bought her, so she's pretty under-detailed in that regard.

    9. Someone I know modded their doll to have very realistic genitalia. Although I was all for the realistic boy bits on my boy, somehow these sculpted girl bits didn't look quite right to me - it stood out in a way that didn't look "natural".
I'm ok with my girl having the little slit between her legs and not much detail other than that. After all generally one doesn't see the inner parts of a vulva. My only quibble is that I wish it didn't look like an afterthought added with the sculptor's fingernail.

    10. Not gonna lie - if my doll's vulva was detailed, it would weird me out. I appreciate the female form as being beautiful, but I don't desire that kind of detail on my dolls. I don't even like it when they have nipples... for one thing, they tend to have headlights if what they are wearing is thin fabric! xD And for another, I don't want that much realism... they are already decently unrealistic. Most BJDs have legs that are far longer than any persons.

    11. I'm greatful for neutral genitalia. As real as these dolls can look, I can only imagine that non-doll owners pull the pants down just to see if everything is realistic.

I thought casting resin has greater success if there is less detail. Manufacturers probably have a good idea where the limit of detail keeps the number of rejects under control.

    12. As a guy, I find it kind of silly sitting and looking at a doll and wondering where all the right parts need to go to look more realistic, and as someone who looks at human stand-in's frequently (an avid gamer that is to say) Dolls are already sitting well within the uncanny valley (feel free to message me if you need to know what that is) so going all the way to the extent of crafting a full vagina feels like a lot of work for something that might not see a lot of viewing attention. Not sure if that makes much sense at all to anyone who doesn't know what I'm referencing, so to sum up, they are already far enough from looking realistically human, so from that standpoint, why bother?

    13. I'm sure someone already mentioned the Narae's msd & sd size doll's they do have some sculpting to their privates. Also their are a few doll's that are on angel bodies (no visible genitalia at all no penis and no slit.) Mythdoll's msd Leroi, Felix brownies and Puki's are just a few.

    14. To me, it's all about how the doll will look like with clothes on. If the doll has fully sculpted open vulvas, exposed clitoris, etc etc, it would create the weirdest cameltoe ever.

    15. My first response was to say "Why in the world should we have detailed breasts but not detailed genitals?" But then I realized that it's all about how they look IN clothing, to me. The breasts are there to form realism while they are clothed, to give the proper shape. That's not really necessary for the genitals- you aren't "seeing" the form of them through their pants or anything, or at least you shouldn't be. *chuckle* For me, I don't have much interest in dolls nude- I think they're beautiful, mind you, but to me, the form is important for the sake of looking realistic through clothing, and nothing more. Personal opinion, though.

    16. This is exactly what this topic made me think. This is why all girls in my class were drilled to not accept negative remarks about our private parts from (future) boyfriends or peers, because vaginas come in all sorts of shapes and they are all normal.
What would be the perfect look for doll genitalia and how would that make people feel if they like/have other things? Anyway, these dolls are customisable and if you would like to see more, you can (have someone) add more and if you like to see less, you can (have someone) sand off a bit. It would reflect your own ideals and you would be happy without wondering whether it is what other people want or not.

    17. To be 'frank and mature' I think realistic.. eughm.. parts, make the doll more realistic and beatiful. The Greeks were the first to do nude sculptures because they realized the beauty of a simple body, so I see nothing wrong with dolls realistic down to private points.
It's actually kind of interesting when people go for intense levels of realism on their dolls, it's really amazing sometimes :)
(if you do it right hah)

I also have no problem with dolls having no realstic vaginas though tooXD It's completely up to the owner! I think dolls in general are just beautiful and I"m more of a face person anyway hah.

    18. Personally I like the more innocent/reserved look for both sexes. Worrying about snagging the dolls bits and bobs isn't on my list of priorities, as when I get my doll I fully intend to play with him/her. Since I think doll collecting for me is a bit of a delicate subject, I would hate the embarassment of being caught mid-clothes change by a family member/friend/even a stranger with the doll's detailed genitals exposed!

Plus I think the slit design is fairly accurate as it is, from a standing position much of the 'detailing' just isn't exposed! In all honesty I find the female genitals unattractive anyway, so I would never buy a doll with those features :/

    19. I was going to refer to her/her dolls, too. And I LOVE the fact that the genitalia are more detailed.

I definitely would like to have more defined vaginal regions on my girls.

People have stated that "most" women have just slits showing when they stand up. I would like to know how many women they have actually looked at; I'm a nurse, and a maternal/child one to boot. I can tell you unequivocally that most women have at least some part of their labia showing, no matter what position they're in. Some have very pronounced labia, majora and minora, while standing. Sadly, this is considered very unattractive in western culture (can't speak for others) to the point that some women opt for labia reduction surgery... genital mutilation, in my opinion. And if people are using porn as an example of "normal", don't. These women in no way represent the typical female body, and I suspect they're first in line for said reduction surgery (maybe they take it off the labia and stick it in the breast?).

As for children looking at BJD's, that's up to the adult in charge, and they're not intended for children anyways.

Regarding photo shoots/stories, I'm not sure it's even relevant; personally, I'd want the detail just to have the detail, not so I could flash it at people. And if one is doing nude photo stories, isn't that somewhat provocative by definition? Isn't it meant for adults to see in the first place? And what about all the more accurate male genitals being offered now; are they meant for children or uncomfortable for adults to look at? Are they meant to be visible at all times? This concept of well if you can't see it all the time, what's the point confuses me to no end.

As for structural issues... I don't see how it would matter at all. If it did then male genitalia would be impossible structurally, too.

I'm not suggesting ALL females have more detail. Clearly not all people like the same things. Same with males; there's a wide variety of realism available now, from neutral to very accurate. But I think it would be very nice to have the option available for the female dolls as well.
