A frank, mature discussion about doll-vaginas. (nudity)

Oct 24, 2010

    1. i absolutely loved this point! i mean its something I’ve realized as I’ve grown up. sex flies over children’s heads. (a little ot sorry.)

personally I’m unsure of where i stand on this conversation. at one end I’m not at all attracted to female bits, and would not want to see them
but on the other end i do feel just a little more realism would seem well for lack of a better word, real.

I'd always known bjd's to brag (humbly) about having more correct anatomy then most dolls, and for being able to pose in all the ways real people can pose. So i guess in my case, i'm ok with detailed genitalia, as long as it's not on a highly pornographic or unrealistic scale. (as in taking genitalia to an odd extreme, i.e. tripodal men, and women with clitoris that rival their male counterparts package.)**

** however i have no problem with people sculpting their own dolls like this for personal preference... i just think there isn't a high market for it.

    2. Your link does not work

Also, the completely bare look started in Brazil in the 1980s-it was the only way to wear a Brazilian bikini. Throughout history you will see the style of body hair change. I believe the ancient Egyptians practiced removal of all body hair if I remember correctly.

    3. Weirdly enough? I think actually adding the hair would make all the difference in the world for a lot of female sculpts. Though hair in general doesn't seem to be sculpted very often -- I've only seen the one male sculpt with it, for instance.

Maybe some of the disparity actually comes from being in a culture where we're used to seeing the waxjob details, and the dolls being sculpted in one that doesn't tend to bare all the dips and valleys in the same way? It is something worth a mild ponder.

(Then there's that part of my brain that just started chanting 'MERKINS AHOY!' in the background and needs to be stopped, possibly with explosives. Ahem. Needs must have more coffee so the lucidity can start, oh yes...)

    4. Personally (and I have no female dolls) I agree with everything that's been said. They're dolls. The priority is not anatomical correctness of a vagina, or penis. It's resin strength especially "down there"

What do you need it so anatomically correct for anyway? :3

    5. It would add maturity, but I can just see people sanding off the hair to get a Brazilian wax look . . .

As I recall, the complaining about nasty non-hairless Japanese women was being done by young women from the UK. I knew some people did that, I just didn't know that the new standard was bald and that all women had to be like that all the time (according to these girls, apparently) . . . x_x

A friend did tell me that part of the misconceptions and trends that go along with girl parts is that many women just don't see much of each other's private bits, and often where they do see them is porn; as mentioned earlier in the thread, that probably has left some people with odd notions of how things should look down there.

    6. I know I would definitely sand off any sculpted pubic hair that would come on any of my dolls. It really does all boil down to personal preference. I don't like pubic hair, on humans or dolls, men or women. Thus, I would not keep it on any of my dolls, nor would I add it.

I think the current doll status quo leaves the door open for modding by people who want more detail, provides enough detail for most people, and for those who want less also is at a stage where modding the detail off isn't too difficult.

ETA cause I missed it, but Izayoi is correct, the ancient Egyptians did practice the removal of all body hair, including the hair on the head.

    7. Personally, I just do not see the point.

Some companies produce dolls with great detail in terms of the face and now also with muscles and even veins, however doll bodies and heads as a whole are still far from the detail that we as human beings have.

I can see where a doll could benefit from that amount of genital detail for some people in terms of photography and the like, if it is something that would feature in their work or simply fit in with their ideal view of how their photography and dolls should be, but in general? Not so much.

Doll nipples are not especially realistic generally, and I'm quite a fan of the fact that BJDs have visible genitals and nipples but haven't gone so far as to make them graphic. It makes them mature without making them over-the-top.

Also, who can declare what a vagina looks like? They're all completely different. Yes there are the obvious basics and general shape, but that's about it. Doll penises are certainly far from detailed, and that works.

As for pubic hair? I think that it's great if you decide to add you own, but I don't think that it is needed as a feature for you to buy. Why stop at pubic hair? Why not leg hair, armpit hair, etc.? Dolls are bald so that you can add hair as you see fit, hair that is to your liking, so I think that applies to their entire being.

    8. i wondered about this too... i mean, it is kind of sad on some level that the sculptors don't take the time to at least sculpt something a little more accurate, b/c like you said, if males can have them why not the females as well? but on the other hand, the dolls that come with accurate penis sculpt(s) seem like, in some way, a burden. but perhaps i feel this way b/c 1 of my friend's dolls came with "optional parts" and the darn thing just keeps falling out. so i have to wonder if having accurate genitalia is really just kind of... pointless?

    9. I think I, too, would sand down any sculpted pubic hair. Unless it was done very very well, I would tend to think that it would present a rough surface that would wear on and even catch at the delicate fabric of panties, and be prone to chipping against tougher fabrics like jean material. Even when wearing pants, my dolls never go commando.

    10. Seriously-- there could be anything down there. It's treated like terra incognita. "Here There Be Dragons". xD Half the population is terrified of it. Of course nobody knows how to approach portraying it sensibly.

Mr. Mega Gem & Mr. Idealian don't seem to have any structural problems with that demurely-molded little pubic swirl they have ... are they known to have problems? I have seen some charming blushing-photos of those guys, & the hair doesn't stick out all that far. The edges don't look sharp or fragile. I haven't heard any owner-complaints yet about how his jeans are chipping his pubes off. But, perhaps it'd be different for girls, I don't know. (Idealian doesn't have a lady counterpart yet, does he.)

I think it's a silly little touch to add-- Soom likes silly little touches, like those Idealian fingerprints!-- but, it's kind of a cute notion. I would not go out of my way to have pubes added to a doll... but I guess if I bought one [either gender] that had an unobtrusive little bit o' pubes like that, I'd probably just leave it as is.

    11. That' good to know, but those are the larger guys. I was think more of something in, say, Fairyland's Chic line, which a a mature girl body but on a much smaller scale so those kinds of details would have to be much finer.

JunkySpot used to carry a doll that had a silicon body... They don't seem to have it listed on their site anymore.. I think is was Artdoll, or something like that. It's way off-topic here because they bend using internal wires instead of behind strung and have soft bodies, but I'm mentioning it because those girls did actually have very nice, realistic-looking vaginas, even the younger dolls that were obviously children. Again, it's not resin, but they are on the same SD scale and the overall look was aesthetically pleasing and natural. I'm just siting a precident for non-sexual doll vaginas, if someone knows the link.

    12. I don't know the link, but I know just the dolls you mean! - We saw them in Tokyo (Akihabara) (natch). It was amazing. I think we were the only 3 female humans in that whole part of the store. The otaku-boys were recoiling a little. ^^ I had heard of these legendary things that're constructed like mini RealDolls, with silicone flesh over a skeleton. The poses they had those girls in were very :nowords:, of course, because they were hentai dolls.... but the look & contour of the flesh was just remarkable. And yes, they had reeeally gone to town on the vulvae.

    13. OMG now I want a tattoo of "Here There Be Dragons" on my lower belly LOL. (One of the best tattoos I've seen was a little stickman with a lawn mower just at the edge of a lady's curlies . . . it was adorable.)

Like some doll companies have done more with male genitalia than others, we may well one day see a company specialize in more detailed female bits, but I think that'd be about it. It wouldn't add a lot of commercial value for the work it would take.

    14. I wouldn't like sculpted pubic hair. Just because it wouldn't match the SOFT hair on the head. XD;; I also wouldn't like attached hair. One thing I like about BJDs is that they are made up of very pure, separate components.. flesh, (symmetrical, functional flesh, which makes it more pure than static sculptures.. not BETTER, just PURER) hair, eyes. I don't even like a lot of fantasy parts because they sorta sully this purity thing. *A*;;;
A real human is pure with the body hair, but there's just no good way to integrate it into resin, so it's not the same for a doll.
Does anyone else feel like this? XD;;;;;; It sounds weirder than I thought now that I've typed it..

PS Also, the crack DOES go all the way from front to back when you're just in a standing position. I researched it while sculpting. The best keyword for pictures of that view turns out to be "upskirt", if you want to see for yourself. Or just hold a mirror down there.

    15. I love Dollstown's 15y girl body has more than just a slit, but actually a well-sculpted vulva. To me it doesn't have to be completely realistic, but I would like to see that every part of the doll's sculpt fits in the general style of tha sculpt. If there is a fairly realistic body I want to see a fairly realistic penis or vagina.

It gives the impression that sculptors are embarrassed to go down there when they've only created a slit with the sharp end of a knife. As if genitals are shameful and should stay a taboo. I don't see them as sexual, but a part of the body and if we are giving so much attention to a doll's hand, why then not to girl parts.

    16. I don't care so much if the vulva looks very realistic. I'm just getting into this hobby, and the fact that they have genitalia at all is kind of bemusing to me. But I like it! Truth is though, I'll be busy putting clothes on my dolls and learning to make clothes for them, so I'm not going to spend a lot of time looking at them down there. Personally I don't like pubic hair, but I wouldn't have anything against it on a doll if it happened to be there. Just wouldn't really see much point in it I suppose.

    17. I... actually have that sketched out to do some day, and have for about a dozen years. Old map font and everything. (Well, for my bewb, but still.) So I completely get the idea. ;) But the premise was actually much like what's being discussed -- it's that 'unmapped territory' angle. Danger lurks in them thar turbulent waters, matey!

    18. My only SD is my darling Andi, a RS Dai. I love her to pieces, and I like her to be able to have a more sexy side, as she is usually really perky and fun. I got her second hand from a friend who had modded her nipples off, because she found they stuck out too much under her clothes. I don't like the way that RS has the nipples on their dolls, and the more I think about it the more I am tempted to get her to have them modded back on, but more realistically. And having seen this discussion, I started thinking about whether to get her a vulva sculpted on. For me I find the RS crotch area rather long anyway (probably because I am very short in the body!) so I wouldn't want it so much added on as I would added in as well as on to her. Of course I would need to talk to her first!! But she likes being a little more sexy sometimes, and I think it would be nice for her.
Personally, I don't mind whether they are added to all the dolls being produced, but I think that it shouldn't be seen as awful or creepy if someone added one on. Admittedly I know a lot of my friends would think it was a little creepy, but for Andi, I think it fits her personality to have all her bits correct! I am planning on getting a second SD girl in the future, and the personality I have for her is a lot more girly and floaty, and not so sexy, so I don't know whether I would get her any modding done in the same style. But I agree with the comments that it is not always that visible in most photography, so really it depends on personal preference I think.
Personally, as a part time photographer and artist, I find that images of female sexuality (and male for that matter) to be incredibly beautiful if they are done well. However I agree with the notion that if not done well they can be seen as nothing but porn, which is where people would need to be careful.
I am thinking of sculpting my own doll at some point (this in one of my 'in the future when there's robots' ideas - it will happen, eventually!) and I want to make her as 'real' as possible, while still being stylized.
And I TOTALLY agree with the points raised about the lack of reality in the breasts of dolls - I have boobs that are very large naturally, and they never sit right, even with a bra, so dolly breasts are extremely fake looking to me. But, Andi likes to keep at least some of her clothes on when she is feeling sexy, so I don't have to worry too much about that!

    19. Cool idea! I always thought it'd be funny to have Don't Panic! in large friendly letters somewhere. Like the inner thigh or something. :sweat

Dragging myself back on topic, I agree with Silk that it would matter how realistic in style the doll was to begin with. If they're generally smoother/less detailed all over, it would seem unbalanced to focus on that one area in fine detail. The opposite then is probably also true - more realistic dolls benefitting from more detailed lady parts.
