A frank, mature discussion about doll-vaginas. (nudity)

Oct 24, 2010

    1. I am for the idea of -slightly- more realism than the slit in the sculpt. Maybe make it just a little more, er, rounded out as it were? I think that it would be nice to have them just a bit more realistic, but agree about the inner workings not being visible. After all, it's been pointed out that for many women that's covered when they're standing.

The only thing I could think of about the molded pubes, though, is my husband talking last night about how some women wearing bikinis have the hair coming out the sides. (We were originally discussing eyebrow waxing at a salon. Still not sure how the conversation veered off that way.) I don't plan on having Brazilian bikinis for any of my dolls, but imagine that could be a tiny problem. Though... I also wonder if they were wearing tight enough panties or a swimsuit bottom and the molded pubes showing through.

    2. I think a good idea would be that dolls come with sculpted pubic hair that can optionally be sanded off. It makes sense to have the choice. I like the pubic hair on the Idealian (?) something like that on dolls would be a good idea. Then it can be blushed/coloured. It would be an extra mod.

    3. I wouldn't particularly want sculpted pubic hair, as I'm not much of a fan of sculpted hair in general. Also depending on how thick it would be, it could interfere with some clothing, since resin isn't soft and won't squish down. If I want pubic hair on my dolls, I'll put it there myself the same way I do eyebrows -- colored pencil and pastel. That way I can control what it looks like and it won't get in the way.

    4. My apologies that I haven't gone through seven pages about resin vagina's, but I think it's just impossible to get a realistic one in resin.
Mainly because of the shape, and the details and the fact that every vagina is very different. If you stand normally, with your legs together (not squeezed together) and you have an avarage vagina, it will look like a slit. That's why dolls have that.
With most people you don't see the details unless they spread their legs. I know that sounds pornographic, but it's not meant in that way. Most people just have a slit when they are in a standing, resting pose.
Yes, maybe there could be more of a curve instead of just a stripe sanded out at the last moment (which alot of dolls seem to look like down there), but to me it shouldn't be anything more than a slit.
The comparison with the penisses on dolls is a different thing. Penisses just have an overal shape, and are easier to actually sculpt because it's a basic shape. Of course, with humans there's tons of variety, but every man still has that basic shape. Females are not that simple. I also wouldn't want a hyperrealistic penis on my doll, I have to say. I'm all for hyperrealism, but having too defined genitals just makes them too sexual for me. I like the hands to be perfect, because you see those often in pictures, but if the genitals have to be perfect, it makes me think people are doing perverted things with them. Which is fine if they do, but not to my taste.
On the topic of pubic hair, I would absolutely hate it if my doll had sculpted pubic hair. Sure, you could sand it off, but not everyone is so brave or skilled to actually do so. I prefer painting it on. Alot less chance of damaging the doll and you can remove it and add it again.

    5. honestly, I think dolls would look nice with pubes. more often than not the (shaved) women I've seen have had one lip showing, with closed legs, at rest, comfortably standing. But I like the thought of more detail on female dolls, more to equal grounds and realism than anything else- I show anyone what Ai looks like naked, and they are shocked that she is so detailed, I want a GOOD REASON for why I shouldn't have her flouncing around nude all the time! XD

    6. I think it's more of an issue of impracticality. I, personally, don't really care either way, but if someone wants more realism, go for it.

    7. I personally don't own any mature girls and don't plan to so bear with my commentary. I actually appreciate the slit, as it's come to be called, because I always sand it out and add a penis to the front anyway. I suppose a defined labia would be fine, aside from my extra elbow grease. However, I'd really be in trouble if there was any more than that. Even more so if there was any sort of deep crevice to work around.

Now, as for everyone else who appreciates female dolls, I'd love for you to have a realistic vulva if you like. On a realistic doll (Iplehouse? Limwha?) that has a detailed body to match. I think that would be lovely but I do think "super realistic" could be a bit too much. I don't even want veins and ridges on what my boys are packing, let alone any sort of hair, personally. I was already shocked to find one of my boys has both a scrotum and a "urethra" hole!

    8. Not into sculpted pubes. As someone else said, I don't really like sculpted hair, period. I think that is something that could be done nicely with blushing.

Also don't really want "super-realistic" labia either, just something more than the slit. Something that makes it truly female. And someone else recently posted that more than the slit is visible when a woman stands, and I agree, as I have posted before. I would at least like a mons pubis, and a little bit of labia would be wonderful. I agree, though, that this would be better on already mature, detailed sculpts. I don't think every female doll requires them.

    9. Impractical how? It's not like slightly more rounded labia will impair the movement of the legs. It will still take the same amount of space the sculpting does now, only now with a little more attention to detail.

Not into sculpting pubes, though. But then again, I'm not into sculpting hair anyway.

    10. I like my dolls to be as realistic as possible and would not at all mind seeing a more realistically sculpted vulva on female dolls. Dale Zentner has created a couple of ball-jointed dolls made of paper clay that have more realistic anatomy and they are lovely.

But having said that, I am not really bothered by the current lack of attention paid to the genital area by most doll manufacturers. For whatever reason(s), it is not something they choose to focus their efforts on and I'm fine with that. It is possible to mod dolls on our own to make their genitalia more anatomically realistic if we want to do so.

If a doll company did come out with a female doll with more attention paid to the vulva and more details added, it would be interesting to see how well she sells, and if the increased realism was something that enticed buyers to her. If that did happen, I imagine we would then start to see more companies paying attention to genitalia!

    11. Personally, I'm happy with my dolls having just a slit. I think if it was too realistic I'd be a bit creaped out, even the penises aren't overly realistic (well... not including spiritdoll >.> actually, forget that last comment).

I do understand where you're coming from though, since I happily going around telling people that they're anatomically correct about males, but that doesn't really apply to females. Perhaps it could be brought out as and option for some body types, but I still think the option should be there, as not everyone wants dolls that are overly realistic. (I'm very happy without a magnetic erect penis as well haha, plus my boyfriend is getting used to them without being creaped out, I think that would undo the whole process ;))

    12. I think it would be wonderful if some companies gave that feature. I would want my doll as realistic as possible and would love to take nudity photos of her (of course if she isn't the shy type! ^_^). That would be so cute seeing my baby girl look more like a woman in later years showing she has aged as well ya know? Thanks for the interesting thread! :D

    13. The Dollfie Dreams have a molded area that produces a distinct "camel toe" if the doll is dressed in sufficiently clingy clothes. This is apparently enough for the mostly male audience for DD in Asia. Obitsu tends to not even go there. Their 65cm boy will be the first with a "package" but no distinct male bits. The 55cm boy abdomen doesn't even have that.

Oh yeah: there ARE aftermarket vinyl replacement parts for Dollfie Dream that leave nothing to the imagination...they are for Lolicon fans, so they are very un-developed looking pieces. Chest smaller than S-bust, plus a rather detailed abdomen piece. Also there are other replacement parts that are the opposite...silicone filled breast parts that go beyond L-bust on DD2 and go beyond DDDy-bust for DDDy hacking. But those people are not making abdominal replacement parts to go with the super sized chests.

    14. i'd love it if dolls had little more realistic vulvas, but not fully realistic. i hate too much realism on doll in general. but i agree, the typical slit looks kinda Barbie-ish to me. like someone just slit it with a butter knife than moved on to sculpting more interesting parts.:|
i think it wouldn't be that hard to mod though...

but children have genitalia too, just not so developed. :sweat (or am i missing something...?)

    15. No, they are not at all Barbie-ish. The poor Barbies now have these funky molded on flesh colored underwear that make them look rather diseased, lol. What the bjd girls have is a huuuge improvement.

    16. I'm not all that fussed to be honest, and I don't feel that the lack of detail is intended to be degrading to women in general, and/or female genitalia, in particular, any more than a bump at the groin rather than a sculpted penis is degrading to men and/or male genitalia. It isn't important to me that my female BJDs are anatomically correct because my dolls spend their days fully clothed and even when naked I probably wouldn't pose them in such a way that it would look unnatural if their vulvas weren't exposed or required to be more detailed. The slits they have already are fairly anatomically correct for the basic 'at ease' standing or sitting position.

My SDC Kurt has a fairly accurately sculpted penis, (as far as I can recall - I'm not getting him off the shelf just to check his winkle), and as far as I remember, my SD10 Megu has labia majora, they're not highly obvious, but they're there...however as the SD10 body was actually sculpted to be a young girl rather than an older teen or woman, perhaps this was a stylistic choice on the part of the sculptor to sculpt a slit and the barest hint of labia majora? The genitalia are sculpted on more because of a sense of anatomical completeness, rather than addressing the function of the vulva?

    17. ...OK, my barbies were just smooth down there, but if they managed to make it even weirder than i'm full of respect for Mattel. :sweat
//googled some and i gotta agree, BJDs are a huge improvement.:sweat

    18. River had said: I don't quite see how it's 'offensive' for them not to be detailed... if you think about it, the only time you'd see any level of detail on a real woman is if she has her legs spread, if you look at a woman who's stood in a neutral stance all you really see is the labia anyway which is pretty much what you get with most female dolls.

Hmm I agree with River detailed genitalia on dolls isn't really necessary. I think it only needs to be "implied" like it is already, if you wanted to do a racy photo shoot you have enough to work with.

    19. I don't buy dolls for their genitalia, and it bothers me not at all that female dolls don't have explicitly detailed vulvas - it's not as though I'm planning to strip my girls naked and shoot BJD porn with them.

    20. I don't care that much about the accuracy and detail of the vulva or penis in and of themselves. However, we often say when asked why the dolls have sculpted genitals at all, that it's because they are such realistic sculpts overall. If the creator is going to the trouble to sculpt tiny finger nails, the inner parts of the ear, ribs, and whatever else, why leave the doll without parts of the anatomy that virtually all of us have in one form or another? But that statement rings false for me when I look at dolls for whom the genitalia seems like a bit of an afterthought. One poster up-thread described some dolls' vulvas as looking like the sculptor just ran a butter knife over the area. My Delf girl is like that, and it does kind of bug me. I don't photograph my dolls naked, but I do see them undressed, and it's weird for me that she has slight dimples in her knees and yet they didn't even go to the trouble to separately sculpt the labia majora. My DollsTown girl, on the other hand, is far more realistic, without going into a whole lot more detail. The only things sculpted in are the labia majora and the mons pubis, but just the little difference of shaping a flat pelvis that goes straight down into a slightly mounded mons, rather than my Delf's round curve from the belly to the bum, makes a huge difference in the realism of the body for me. The realism of the genitals is never going to be a make-or-break issue for me in the purchasing of a doll, but I admit that there's one future character I originally intended to buy from Luts that I now think will be embodied in a DollsTown girl because I prefer the bodies.

Sculpted pubic hair would bug me, though. I don't want sculpted eyebrows or sculpted head hair either - although I know some people do (is it ElfDoll Red who has a special edition with sculpted hair?). I prefer to have it painted on (I've seen some amazing work, especially on male dolls), and some people have come up with merkins (wigs) that look much better than sculpted resin hair ever could in my opinion.
