A frank, mature discussion about doll-vaginas. (nudity)

Oct 24, 2010

    1. I didn't read everything, but I have wondered the same thing...! But then again, most dolls have indifferently rendered toes, too... which I find more vexing!! XD

As most of these dolls are made in Asia, I don't see it as being "degrading to women" or that they're somehow trying to avoid dealing with the area (meaning they tend to be less hung up about that sort of thing there, as far as I know).

My Dollstown 7age girl has the most beautiful little pudendum, but her hands and feet leave much to be desired!!

The weirdest representation I've seen of the vulva has to be Souldoll's Double girls. I don't know if they look the same as when they were first released, but it looked like a rabbit's nose!!! D-:

    2. I have to say honestly, I would choose not to buy a doll if it had detailed genitalia. I buy my dolls as innocent, harmless little artful toys to display, and to enjoy. I would not be comfortable changing the clothes on a detailed doll (male or female) and then posing it for photos. In the back of my mind would always be that it is not something I'd want my kids to get hold of and I would DEFINITELY be uncomfortable if friends or family saw it nude!!

I love the larger dolls, and some of their faces are just adorable. I would love to own a couple. But call me a prude if you will - I don't want one with clearly defined genitals at all. It doesn't seem neccessary to me. There aren't many situations in which you'd benefit from having genitals there, and doll porn sounds like a VERY creepy idea to me. I'm not ready for that.

That said, I can appreciate some people have a desire to have a completely correct doll. I don't have a problem with anatomically detailed dolls existing, but I would not be comfortable with them being the default mould. I am not suggesting that people would want them for sexual reasons, or for anything perverse or inappropriate, nor am I suggesting it is in any way wrong to want them detailed or have that. I am just saying personally, it would make me a bit uncomfortable. Maybe because although my dolls are little works of art and I appreciate them as an adult, they are essentially still dolls. While not being toys, the word doll still have a lot of innocence and purity attached to it in my head and I've not really considered dolls as sexual beings before. Maybe I am being narrow minded?

I think I'll be giving this a lot of thought over the next few days....it is very interesting once you get past your initial instinctive reaction to the idea and really think about it.

    3. Personally, as a woman myself, I find them ugly to be honest XD especially since us women have to see it everyday whether we like it or not haha
I like this type of discussion though, as I've often wondered this as well (my mom even asked why when she first found out some male dolls are anatomically correct lol). I blushed my own dolls nipples though because I wanted to go for more of a realistic look (even though I don't really plan on doing any nude shots, but I'm not against it either), so I guess that wouldn't be too much different, although I find breast more attractive-looking.

    4. Ho boy, I don't know why I am throwing in my 2cents, as I am agog at some of the rampant neurosis jumping and frolicking all over this topic, but hey, why not.
Personally I LOVE sculpted hair, I have an Elfdoll Mir, I think he's fantastic. I meant hair on the head that is. Genital hair I am indifferent to.
A doll is a sculpture, therefore, an interpretation, and some details are just kind of sketched in. To me, I would rather have nicely sculpted feet than genitals, since the feet may be seen more.
enchantedlily, you might be more comfortable with a Tenshi sculpt (one that has no genitalia). I don't exactly think that genitals or their lack has much to do with innocence, but clearly you are not the only one who equates it this way.

    5. When you consider a dolls area between the legs is only about an inch wide I think the idea of jamming in details is kinda silly. Also if I want a detailed vagina I will buy one from a sex shop LOL.

I did think the lightly rounded bump and detail on my little kkotmu domadoll was beautiful though. But that's about it for me, no more is needed (my 2 cents)

    6. This is what I meant earlier with 'more realism'. I don't have to see the entire anatomy of the doll's genitaelia, but I think it is strange to sculpt a beautifully realistic body (anatomically correct, not only in that it has a vagina or penis, but also in that hands have knuckles and nails, the muscles are in the right place etc) and then lacking that same realism when you enter the groin area. It's not about the labia, but the shape of the pelvis and mons.
Even if the representation of the doll's vulva is nothing more but a slit of the knife, but the pelvis shape is correct, it wouldn't bug me as much.

    7. Treelore your post made me lol.
I have to say, what bugs me much more are ears! So many dolls have crappy ears. I admire well sculpted ears. Not caring so much for the parts usually in clothes, although I am an artist so my dolls are sometimes nude models.

    8. i think itยดs ok that a realistioc doll can have a vigina and nipples... i like the aduldstuff more as the kiddys dolls.... if i want have a kiddy doll i can buy a brabie. so its ok for me if they have thรฉse detals ..... if you show them its a question of taste i guess.

    9. I like my girls little miss' the way they are. I know what a real vag looks like and I don't need a clit on my dolls, what would she use it for? lol

    10. Interesting discussion

Personally I don't have problems about a non pupic hair female doll. Although I really love it at the Idealians and Mega Gems, and even the details. Well what can I say, I'm a girl, I enjoy seeing a naked fully grown man. ^^ But deatils could be (like mentioned by many) a problem with BJD due to hard resin. My Gluino needs special pants. Nevertheless I really love a detailed doll. To be honest for my SD dolls I look very closely at the body, I hate it when the boys don't have decent boy bits and the girls no lovely bosom and hips. I would never buy a DOD boy for that matter. As for the slit- well I agree, this is what a standing woman mostly look like. At least my friends and my family look like that as well as the girls in the youth magazins. But a bit more detail would be nice like the Dollstown 15 Girl body- this is just perfect in my opinion. Whether there is sculpted hair or not I don't care. But I don't like to have a doll, which looks like her legs are spread all the time.

I'm quite happy with the Super Gem Girls and the Iplehouse female body. But a female Idealian body would be very nice. But I have to say that most female dolls look like they have silicon tits. No breasts that big would stay like that if it is no silicon breast. ;) But as a BJD is an image of a perfect body this is ok with me.

    11. I love discussions like this.

I am studying to be a photographer and will be taking pics of my dolls nude soon for an assignment, I probably won't be focusing on their genitalia and I might even cover it up. But that is because I personally...well, I don't want to say I'm squicked out or weirded out by it, but I really would not want to do it. But then again I wouldn't take pictures of a naked human at all. I have no problem with other photographers doing it, and I do think it's a vaild genre and not just porn, and I would look at pictures other people have done. I'm just too much of a prude to do it myself, I guess...

But my point is, I guess, I don't really care what my dolls bits look like, but I can see how other people would want more realistic and detailed parts, and I'm okay with that. I don't find that weird or pornographic at all. Well, I'd be more weirded out if they were on a doll that was meant to be a child, but our culture has those "naked = sex, therefore child + naked = wrong" connotations that I'm not going into here. On a mature female doll like a Iplehouse EID, I think a little more detail would be lovely and fitting, as long as it didn't get in the way of anything else.

Sculpted pubic hair I do have an objection to, just because it seems weirder and a bit too much detail, and it would be much easier for someone (even the company) to blush in pubic hair than it would be for someone to sand it off.

So if a sculpter wanted to make more realistic vaginas on a woman doll, I would not have a problem with it. (I don't think I would want everybody to start doing it though.) In the end, I don't think I would buy or reject a doll based on what they have down there.

    12. XDDD I lol'd!

I think it depends what the owner will do of her. If he wants her to be sexy, it can be sexy in a way.

Examples being the Tokyo Doll body, http://www.tokyodoll.biz/images_gal/60lgalley/db60l09.jpg , where there is that thin line, makes it really "usefull" for sexy poses XD

    13. See, I don't find that pose "sexy". To me it just looks sleazy. I don't buy my dolls to turn them into porn stars.

    14. I do know some owners who make porn / hentai out of their dolls =x...
There are people like this in our world and I think it's a better solution for them for more realism when making their scenes.

      (I'd never do that personally)

    15. My iplehouse JID doll has barely anything there. I don't mind much because I didn't buy the doll for her bits. :)

She looks, in many ways, like a barbie to me.

    16. I find details down there not important.. My dolls are clothed constantly, or at least wearing pants. My dolls are boys and I personally find their "area" annoying and unneeded. They also make it difficult for pants to fit right I think. One of the boy's penis is quite bigger than I would like it to be.. and I am just hoping the cloths I got him that are coming in the mail will fit despite that taking up the space it does..

    17. Eh, I'd have to say it is kinda pathetic that they would attach a penis onto a boy (which sometimes gets in the way for some owners, right??) but not add any labia -or what have you- onto a girl! I mean.. the penises arent perfect but hello! They are on there. I do have to give them credit for making the boobs so perfect though ^^;

I don't think I'd ever take photos of my boy nude though.. I wouldnt feel right about it.. poor guy xD
It just doesnt seem like he'd be comfortable in my opinion.. but sure! It you'd feel its necessary for your female to have a proper vagina, I say you go for it! You make the best vulva you can! I almost think its sexist that they have added the penis but no vagina. >.> but thats just me.

    18. I don't think it's "sexist". I think it more of a matter of a vagina being on the inside, unseen, while the penis obviously hangs out. I mean, the vast majority of boy dolls have a similar amount of detailing on their penis, which is basically a little knob of resin, as female dolls do on their vulva.

Not that I mind either, mind you, I'm not buying these dolls because I intend to make pornography with them. Personally I think genitals are pretty fugly for both genders and don't really see the need for extra detailing. As long as there's some semblance of a penis-shaped object that makes the pants sit right, but doesn't look like a perma-boner, and as long as the girl doesn't get a camel toe, I'm satisfied. Then again, I wouldn't mind any extra detail as long as it didn't look odd under clothes or get in the way of the doll sitting.

    19. I love looking at these bodies, though they are a bit of a different entity altogether because they're made of silicone, so they actually have give and stretch, so they can have a greater degree of realism in how the vulva looks because, well, it squishes like a real one. Resin can't.

Now I wonder if a Dollfie Dream head would work on one cause that would be a pretty amazing combo.

    20. I think I can see arguments either way on this subject. On one hand, the entire doll's proportions are stylized and so it stands to reason that the level of detail would be left up to that artist's interpretation of what fits with the personality of the doll they are sculpting. I have nothing against the vagina, I even have one of my own. lol. so it wouldn't bother me to see one on a doll so long as logistically it wouldn't interfere with movement, pose-ability and all that. it is the realism of the dolls that drew me to this hobby in the first place.

      On the other hand, not all these dolls look grown up. Some of them look very young, far too young for me to be comfortable with them having full blown genitalia. I can't imagine anyone doing anything good with an undeveloped girl with an over developed set of genitals, but... maybe that's just me? u_u;
