A question for fantasy skinned doll owners?

Jan 22, 2013

    1. I was initially afraid to put green on my green RS An, Evra. But I just got done making him pajamas with multicolored teddy bears, and the green teddy bears match his resin exactly. It looks so good on him!! I think as long as you're not dressing them in ALL green/blue/red/whatever, you're golden. A tiny bit of like colors can make them stand out more!

    2. I have a Soom Sov who is green skinned... everything she owns is green except for her yellow hairclips. But Soom Sov is such a pale green. Everything I put on her is a darker and more saturated green.

    3. I have an IH Luna Tamer, which only came in Rose Grey resin, so she's kind of pale purple. I dress her almost exclusively in pinks and blacks, with red accents. That being said, I don't think I'd outright avoid purples and greys for her; it really depends more on it the style of the piece suits my doll's character.

    4. I have one Green tiny doll and a Lilac MSD. I try to dress them in colors that enhance their resin tones and the tones used in their faceups. I find that's what looks best on them.

    5. I have a Pipos Dark Rabbit (which is purple) and he wears his default outfit which is black/purple (a darker purple than his resin colour). I also have a liliac BBB Ariel, and I'd like to dress her in the same colour combination, but I've had a surprisingly hard time finding the right shade of purple to compliment (rather than clash with) her skin - so she mostly wears black.

    6. My Iplehouse Luna Tamer is a pale gray, and I don't think I'd want to dress her in gray~! I plan on blue and white. This actually was a bit of a problem with her wigs. I ordered some in what I thought was white, but it was more of a silvery gray that doesn't look on her at all. Matt white looks much better. ♥

    7. i have a beauty green boy that is practically glow in the dark green. he looks amazing in green, but because he is an 80's rocker, he wears mostly black. i did cave though and he has some beautiful dark green eyes.

    8. This is a very interesting question! I have three grey men at Casa Tangier. My Leekeworld Smith (Vladimir) wears grey to beige tones because they don't detract from the subtle colouring of his face up. My hybrid Euclase, on the other hand, wears yellow and golds very well because any greys just wash out his face up. He also wears golden blonde wigs. Griffon, on the other hand, wears all types of different clothing as long as it is in the grey/black/navy colour range. His wig and eyes are grey. I would say clothing colours depend on the colour of the resin because even with one colour - for example, grey resin - there is subtle variation that could affect the colour of clothing you choose. It helps if you have a stash of fabric around and can play with the different colours against the resin.

Here is Vladimir. I have no pics of Griffon dressed and Euclase just arrived so doesn't have anything to wear yet!

    9. I dont personally want one... Sometimes I think they look a little strange but I can see why people want them, especially for fantasy dolls

    10. My grey Galena wears blacks with colour accents, and deep navy blue. My purple Migma wears navy blue and white. My black Shonki doesn't wear clothing (but does have black fur accents at his wrists and ankles).

I personally think that dolls of any skintone can look good in any colour of clothing, though. It's just a matter of design - choosing the shades and saturation that best suits your doll.

    11. Actually my blue Miro Wind doll I'm intentionally doing up in various shades of blue and purple. I was going with a wintery look at first but then I stuck her in a t-shirt dress I made that was a deep blue floral and purple print and added some blue sneakers and it looked so good on her that I decided to go in another direction.

    12. I have fallen in love with the Bobobie Sprite in Sky/Light blue skin, there was an amazing one on ebay with a gold and orange face up... I think gold and different tones of russet and orange would look great on a blue skinned doll! Its also something a bit different...

    13. I have several dolls in "unnatural" skin tones. I've got a sky blue, a green, a red - and even though it's not unnatural - a dark tan.

I think the clothes you choose have just as much to do with the character as they do with the doll itself. I think if you're going for a certain look, it'd be fine to dress a blue doll all in blue, for instance. I don't personally do that, but that's not what I personally prefer.

I don't like to dress my blue girl in blue because, to me, it just doesn't look good but also because the character's favourite colour is pink. I think my blue doll looks awesome in hot pink, yellow and purple. So, most of her clothes are pink, yellow or purple.

My green boy has rainbow-coloured hair and the character likes to wear multiple colours. I don't intentionally avoid green for him, but I'm more likely to dress him in yellow, orange, blue or purple.

My red guy is actually more of a coral colour. Since he's a boy, I'm not likely to dress him in coral clothing anyway, so that's not really an issue. I don't avoid reds for him, though. He pretty much dresses like a normal 10-year-old boy with jeans and graphic t-shirts and "Converse" sneakers. I do like yellow and white on him, but he can pretty much pull off any colour.

I never dress my dark tan boy in chocolate brown. It's simply not his colour. I prefer white, red, orange or yellow on him.

    14. I'll soon have a green Impldoll in-house and because of the character he is (a very young child of about 5 or 6), he'll be wearing a lot of the primary colours. Of course, that's my plan and when he gets to me, he could have completely different ideas of what he'll wear *rolls eyes*. I won't avoid greens in general for him but I'll be cautious with some as they may simply not look good next to his resin in the same manner that some colours don't look good on people because of their skin tone.

I have found that as my old blue RS Jun ages, putting blue on him completely washes out his colour. But, the old blue (this is from 2009, BTW) is/was very, very pale and if he's by himself, he can, at first glance, be mistaken for a doll that isn't blue. He's actually mellowed to a sort of green-blue now so putting blue on him actually makes him look more on the green end of the scale.
