A Small Collection or a Big One?

Jun 11, 2012

    1. I am a newbie. I think that a big collection is having more than 5 dolls. I actually have a big collection I think :P, and I want more. Mostly because I like dolls. I have a lot of original characters, but my goal is not really to make my dolls match the characters that I have previously created. Some of my bjds match my previous characters but other don't :P

    2. Small. Quality over quantity, and also would rather spoil one doll thoroughly than have her dress like a pauper while I buy more dolls. Also there's storage to think of.

    3. I give up on trying to keep it at a certain number, things seem to change with time and experienceโ€ฆ.. ;)

    4. I probably only want to keep a dozen or so. I imagine once I reach the first ones I really want I'll start circulating dolls as time passes.

    5. My plan has always been two, that way I don't have more than I can handle, and i wouldn't feel bad with one doll sitting around with so many plush toys. I consider four and under to be a small collection, and originally I would have considered any more than maybe seven to be pretty outrageous, but after reading what other's have said and being on this forum, I've realized that's not quite how things seem to work. So I guess 'medium' to me is between five and thirty? Personally I find that a hard number to handle, but it all depends on the people and how much space they have, too. Having more than two I would end up ignoring some all the time, and they'd just be decoration, pretty much, so I'd just stay small, or so the plan is.

    6. I hope I can manage to keep it small like less than 10 dolls, but time will show. I can foresee ending up with more tinies than planned ^^

    7. I'm saving up for my first doll but I'm planning on getting more so she won't be lonely >.>
planning on maybe 4 dolls, perhaps more.
I might end up like my friend who in only 2 years managed to collect 24 dolls, with more on the way XD

    8. At first, i swore my boy would be the only doll id ever get because i felt i wouldnt be able to feel connected to multiple dolls. But i eventually started to feel bad that he was lonely, so i got him a boyfriend. And now im waiting for my third doll and have plans for at least three more sooo...so much for only having one doll ^-^

    9. I feel that small collection is better for me just because it's cheaper and the doll maintenance is not much of work then. :kitty2
I think small collection is under 5 dolls or something, it also depends of the size of the doll (you can have small collection with more dolls if they are very small ones).
Also if you have less dolls you have more time and money to start new projects like making rooms or clothes for your dolls. Even modding your dolls.
I would feel bad if I had a lot of dolls and would favor only couple of them so the other ones would get less attention... just laying around. :'<
Why get dolls if you don't play with them? (Unless you are that kinda doll collector who just lets them sit on the shelf looking pretty.)

    10. Do you plan to keep your BJD collection small or big?
I have and never had any plan on my collection cause its never enough :p
More and more is better and better :p
then I assume I want a big family

How many dolls would you determine as little or a lot?
a small family should go under 10, beyond that I think it should be considered as big

    11. I think very small. I love my one and only doll so much. I want to get a bigger one as well, but I think that will be it. I want to be creative with their clothes and accessories and I worry that if I had more than just two dolls, I would be stressed about giving them new things. Well, I may want one smaller than msd, but that's it. I can't wait till next year when I read this post and have like 20 dolls or something.!!! Can you say impulse buyer, Yes I can...

    12. I plan to have a small collection. From experience of collecting other stuff before, they end up being dust collectors which becomes a waste (this is the practical side of me). I noticed that I appreciate a collection more if there are a few of them. Other than that I have no room to house all of them and can barely keep up with the rest of my hobbies. My time is mostly occupied with family and work.

    13. I'd say more than 10 would be a big collection. I'd prefer to keep it small so I could have sets for them instead of them being crammed together on a shelf. That's just kinda boring in my opinion. But then new dolls come out all the time so who knows if a small collection is going to stay that way.

    14. When I started out in the hobby, I wanted 3 or 4 dolls and no more. But over the years I've sort of accumulated 30+ :sweat. I really do need to thin the herd a bit, but I can't decide who to let go! It does get a little overwhelming and storing all the dolls, their clothes, wigs, etc is difficult. Luckily I have a whole room just for my hobby stuff, so it's not too bad.

    15. You are SOOO lucky! I am totally jealous. I barely have one little shelf, and a box.

    16. I've kept my collection to a minimum. It took me a long while to find a doll I truly wanted; I also had to wait for this doll to come out! I am honestly satisfied with one doll :P

    17. For me, 1 to 5 is small, 5+ is big. I don't have the desire to own a big doll family because I don't have that many wanted dolls.

    18. I have 3, with two on the way, so I guess I'll say I have 5. To me thats a lot already, but it sounds more than it feels. I think I'll keep the number under 10, maybe more )))))

    19. I would like to keep it at a smaller collection

    20. Do you plan to keep your BJD collection small or big?
My overall collection will be pretty big, but I won't have so many that they start taking over. But it's really fun to have so many, I think. Like a family.

How many dolls would you determine as little or a lot?
I'd say a small collection is 1-5. A medium collection is 6-10. And a large collection is 11-15. I also think it depends on price. A small amount of really expensive dolls is the same as having a larger amount of smaller, inexpensive ones.
