A Small Collection or a Big One?

Jun 11, 2012

    1. My dolly family keeps getting bigger and bigger, but I really don't care about how many dolls I'll own, as long as I can have everybody wearing properly clothes, eyes, wigs, shoes and faceups I couldn't care less :) I'll love them anyways <3

    2. What size do you plan to keep your doll collection and why?

I never planned on having as many (19-soon to be 20) as I have now! I was recently given a couple of BBBs to be with my own BBBs. And I intend to get another Yo-SD girl at some point in the future. Besides her, everything else I want is SD or bigger, which is a bit worrying. I need to get a dedicated set of shelves for them all-I'm running out of space on my bookcase and dresser!

I'd also like to know what you'd consider a big collection and/or small collection.

Small to me is 5 or less. Big is 30 or more.

    3. i like the idea of a small one but i am not capable of it. lots & lots of dollies for me!

    4. Haha, this is the best answer.

I'm gonna be honest and say I wish I could be one of those "1-3 dolls and that's it" people. But it's just not possible. I like too many different things, and that equates to a lot of dolls representing those things. There's too much variety in this hobby for me to be fine with only having a small collection.

    5. This sums up my feelings on this matter in their entirety. I just love so many different things so it's impossible to keep to only a few dolls... Small dolls and big ones, fantasy characters and regular people... even aliens and oddities have managed to creep in my collection and plans for future dolls! xD I often talk about re-calibrating my collection and selling my dolls but I just can't go through with that, I love them all a little bit too much to ever do that, and admittedly I greatly enjoy the diversity...

    6. I've seen the amounts of dolls some people have, so my ideas of a big collection have been corrected - 15+ counts as big to me, 5 or less as small. That puts me in the medium range, with a collection that recently exploded from four and a floating head to seven *_* (How did that even happen?)
Once I've got all my main characters home, I'll have 10 or more - probably 15 with a few supporting characters. I'll need a doll room.

As someone mentioned, I plan to stop buying dolls once my collection is "complete" - that is to say, all the characters shelled. I'd hate to have too many dolls to be able to spoil them like they deserve for adding more beauty to my life, so once I reach the point where caring for them becomes a chore, I'll know it's time to stop.

    7. This. I wish I was able to concentrate on 3-5 dolls. But it's not possible. I have so many designs and ideas in mind that it is impossible to own that few dolls. I just need a huge collection, I need huge collections of everything I collect :)

    8. I would like to have a small collection, but you can never stop at just one. Over the years my collection has grown and I have come to accept that's just how this doll collecting world is. There are way too many adorable dolls out there to just limit yourself to just a few.

I have a large collection as I have well over 35 dolls. And I don't think I'll ever stop, too many awesome choices out there.

    9. I have a small collection. Right now I have three dolls, one floating head, and two more dolls on layaway. I think I'm pretty happy with that right now, but I do plan to get two others someday in the future.

    10. I kind of cheat. I have a very large collection of characters (24 at the moment, with no plans to stop any time soon), but keep my doll collection smaller by having heads share bodies. For example, I only have 8 Super Gem bodies, but I have 17 Super Gem heads. Each of my bodies is a different gender or skintone, as well, so I'm owning the absolute minimum I need to.

I think one reason I can be comfortable with such a large collection is because I rarely (if ever!) have them all out at once. I keep my dolls stored in their boxes, and only take them out to photograph them. Having all my dolls out at once (especially if they all had their own bodies!) would be totally overwhelming, I think.

    11. A medium size collection not too big and not too small (there is just too many I want!)

    12. small, I had a pukifee but she was about right, then i saw someone with an SD and i decided they were too big for me, so I stick with pukifee/lati yellow to msd sized. pukipuki and smaller are too tiny for me, so I'm sticking with what I have.. >.<

    13. Oh, I remember the days I was going to be happy with just one. Presently, I am at 10, with seems like a lot to me although I have been active in the bjd hobby since 2006. I half want to reduce the number to 8, but I just can't vote anyone off the island at the moment. I so enjoy and love each and every one of them, but it is a lot to handle if one want to re-dress and display them.

So I want a small collection, but 10 in my mind is a medium-to large size.

    14. I personally want a fairly small collection (I think!). My perspective of a big collection has changed a lot after viewing the massive amount of dolls people have. I had two before I had to give up the hobby and a friend who has had 14 which was a huge collection to me back in the day. Seems like 20-30 is a pretty average number now. Blows my mind. I don't know that I'll ever have that many but I might like at least one of each size at some point. Who knows though...there are always new sculpts coming out to fall in love with. My future 4 could end up being 40.

    15. Two is more than enough for me. At the moment I only have one. I could kind of see myself getting another at some point, but I'm perfectly happy with my one right now. I don't have "characters" like a lot of you say. My love for my doll stems from my love of making miniatures, so to have one to spoil with miniatures is enough for me. Though I have seen pictures of sisters that make me want another, the want isn't strong enough to spend the money at all.

    16. I plan to have a room just for dolls when we get a house. so I want fairly big collection

    17. What size do you plan to keep your doll collection and why?

If I had copious amounts of space and money, there would be no limits on the size of my doll collection! :apig: I would be buying dolls and commissioning face ups on a regular basis. Given my present circumstances, though, I am limited to just one doll, until I can raise funds for another. Not a bad thing because it keeps my spending and purchases under control and makes me appreciate the doll I do have.

I'd also like to know what you'd consider a big collection and/or small collection.

Given the high cost of all sizes of ABJDs, I would consider up to 5 dolls to be a small collection, 6-9 dolls to be in-between and 10+ dolls to be a big collection.

Ha! We can all relate, I am sure! I think it is impossible for any doll lover to be happy with just one. There is so much variety and temptation out there.

    18. I'd like to keep my collection to 10 dolls or less, preferably less. I want to be able to pay attention to them all and not play favorites.

    19. What size do you plan to keep your doll collection and why? At the minute, my plans will make a total of 12 in my doll family (but that can change at any time)

I'd also like to know what you'd consider a big collection and/or small collection. When I first got into BJDs, I'd say 10 was alot, but now I think otherwise. I'd say 20 would be a big collection. I guess it depends on sizes etc. 20 tinies compared to 20 SDs is different!

I wanted to keep mine small when I first got into dolls, but then I started liking so many dolls and I don't have any willpower!
