A Small Collection or a Big One?

Jun 11, 2012

    1. At first I wanted my collection to be small, but over time I think mine grew a bit larger than I had planned.
I'm at 15 now, with number 16 in the making. I think that's quite a lot. I'm happy with this number though :)

    2. I planned on having a very small collection (I only have one doll right now)...but...I added more to my wishlist, so now I'm looking at 7 in the future, minumum. I don't know if that counts as small or large, or kind of in the middle? I bet more will catch my eye in the future xD

    3. I think my collection itself as it is at this time is quite small. I have one SD13 boy, one Yo-SD, one Sei-Tenshi(little smaller than Yo-SD size and one Dollfie Dream Sister; sooo maybe family of four complete dolls. Unfortunately, I have the knack for scooping up any reasonably priced heads so my I have a bunch of floating heads at home. Hahaha.

I would like a bigger collection one day, but not too big. I would want it small enough so I can give my dolls equal attention.

    4. I don't know if my planned collection will be considered big or not.
Originally I just wanted FL MNF Chloe, but then I saw Celine, and couldn't pick, so I got both. I ordered during an event, so I got a MNF event head which I plan to keep and get her a body for herself.
After some time in the MNF Discussion thread I realized I also want a tan Celine, and more importantly my grail doll, a WS Juri 08.

I'm hoping I don't fall for any more dolls after that. 5 seems like more than enough...

I have seen some very large collections on these forums, though. It makes 5 seem pretty normal.

    5. I love a small one! I have only two dolls right now but I've been fighting myself not to sell one off because I find it hard to split my attention and limited funds (this hobby is second to a more expensive one) even with only two dolls. I can't imaging having more. But I love *looking* at other people's big collections! I'm interested to see all of it like eyes, wigs, clothes, sculpt, characters, etc is all so interesting to me but for myself, one is preferable. :)

    6. I have two and I see stuff I want all the time, but five is a LOT when you think about the price. I'm going to try to keep it to three and aim to spend more of my efforts on clothes and environments.

    7. I'm at 44 now, so I guess just about anyone would count my collection as "large." :sweat Originally I planned to have no more than ten, but my circumstances changed and I'm much better off financially now. Even though my place isn't very large, I have enough space on shelves to keep them all out of their boxes so I can enjoy them every day. Not right now, though, because I'm trying to sell my condo and I figured walking into a room with 40-something pairs of eyes could really freak out potential buyers! :XD: In the near future I'll be buying a house, and my plan is to have a room (my office/library) with a wall full of big, deep shelves for my dolls to hang out in.

Even though I have so many, I don't feel I neglect them. They all get photographed and put into different clothes pretty regularly. They have plenty of clothing. There are just so many beautiful dolls out there that I want lots!

    8. I'd like to have less than ten buuuut you never know! I might end up having more than ten.

    9. At first I started with the idea of just buying one doll and that being the end of it. Then as I continued looking at other dolls while I already had one, I grew fond of the idea of adopting a doll. I have yet to actually do so, but meanwhile I did buy two other dolls. One because his mold was perfect for one of my rp characters, the other because I wanted a doll that looked good in anything and on any photo. (My current doll is hard to make good pics of)

If I had the money, like be extremely rich, I would probably buy many dolls. But I'm not rich and I also love travelling, cons and good food. Meaning I cannot afford to collect that many. So far I think I'll stop at either 5 or 6 (that would be the complete Kimura family from the Worlds RP)

    10. I guess my intentions are to have quite a few, because I want dolls of a bunch of characters of mine, but I'd like to stay mostly with msd scale, I do have a few larger I want, simply because there are sculpts that fit the characters better, but if I could find them in mini size I'd be happier. I just find the mini size more comfortable.

    11. To be honest, I like having lots of dolls. I don't know if (when?) I'll stop collecting them!

I would say a big collection is probably having 20+ dolls. Small would be under 5? But that's just me.

Having a small collection is definitely cozy, but I wouldn't be able to do it!

    12. I know we could all probably collect forever and forever. Right now I've imposed a limit of two: one large, one small. How many do you have? How many do you want?

    13. Right now I own two complete BJDs and two floating heads. I hope I can complete they some day. I think my limit is about 5 or 6 bjds if I had the money :D

    14. I try to limit myself as much as I can. If it weren't for that - and the monetary issue - I'd be probably getting a new doll every month.
Currently, I have three dolls. I'd like three more - they're already on my "to buy at some point in the future" list - but I just wouldn't know where to keep them in my small-ish apartment.

    15. I am a new owner, just received my doll two months ago and now i already have a head coming..actually i am trying to limit myself not more than 3... But come on they are so awesome and there are so many different type out there.... BJD owners always exceed the number of dollls they plan to stop at..haha and i guess i would be one of them....

    16. A lot :sweat

I have: 8 Super Gem Bodies, shared by 17 Super Gem heads; 4 Teenie Gems plus 2 extra heads; and 3 Rosette School of Doll girls. I'm waiting on 2 more Super Gem dolls and an extra 2 more heads; a Teenie Gem body; a Mini Gem; and another Rosette girl with an extra head. Plus I have a whole score of fantasy parts as well, and am waiting on a couple more.

I've always been a collector, and never really felt the need to 'limit' myself beyond the natural limits presented by money and space.

    17. I have yet to order my first doll, but I'm probably not going to impose a limit. I tend to collect things ( I actually have a fairly large porcelain & vintage doll dollection) so this is a pretty natural progression for me. I don't really care for standard porcelain dolls anymore (haven't in years) but these have re-awakened the spark and I like how interactive they are. So, all that being said, I will probably end up with several once I pull the trigger. :3

    18. Presently my dolls are hovering in the twenties- and to be honest that is probably as big of a collection as I can keep. Many of them share bodies so space is not an issue. But I have many, many OC's and these are all that are probably going to be shelled due to time constraints. I really don't have a limit on what a big collection is- maybe 80 or 100?

    19. Well... I knew from the start that one doll is not enough, so I decided to buy two of them. Well... that was the moment when Kissa came. "Okay, next one is the SD doll." Nope. I-must-buy-'cause-he's-so-cute boy arrived (MSD size). And now I have two complete dolls at home, one pair of hooves and plans for next seven characters. I hope that I'll end there. 10 is my maximum (okay, maybe 11 if I conclude that I need twins).
In my opinion, small collection is from two to 20 dolls. More than 20 is big collection. So... I think I prefer the smaller one. It means to me that I still would know who is who :D

    20. Being mildly O/C, I knew one would not be enough. ( My OT dolls number in the hundreds) Now I am up to 15, and think this may be enough to play with. It is a matter of space -- each one needs a room, and most are SD's. So, is 15 a large collection or a small?
