A Small Collection or a Big One?

Jun 11, 2012

    1. I have a few OCs in my head that I know down the road, are probably going to made into dolls. I could definitely see myself with maybe five or six dolls, if I really got into the hobby. We will have to see though, I'm still on my first one xD; For me, a small collection is maybe five, but big would be like 20+.

    2. I plan on keeping it very small. I have no room for a big one lol

    3. Big collection! Big, big, big!!! OMG! Check out my profile, and I have two incoming and one on layaway and there are always more I want! Because they are all beautiful and they are all unique!

    4. For me, I'm probably going to keep my collection on the small to medium size. I can't see my self realistically owning more than around five dolls. I wouldn't be able to take care of any more than that anyways! *_*

    5. I'm of the same mind as JennyNemesis - I have a lot of dolls, but they hang out together in my living room and it's nice to just sit back & watch them, or see them when I walk in the door. I'm constantly making things for them, buying new accessories, rearranging their 'living' spaces, shooting photo stories (not so much just yet) & making up more stories about the characters the dolls represent.
Just seems so much more interesting w/lots of dolls! Plus when I buy something, I know it will fit at least ONE of them LOL

    6. I hope I can keep it small. I think ten or so might be a good number, but less than that would be great. I feel like if I have too many dolls, I can't take care of them all or give them all enough attention. Right now, I have three, and I want to keep it at three for a good long while. I want to appreciate the dolls that I already have. Plus, I can't really afford a lot of dolls. I'm only a college student!

    7. I think I'd rather have a small collection. That way each doll seems more special. I think if I had a huge collection I'd just be overwhelmed. I'd consider a small collection 5 and under and a large one 15 and over.

    8. Do you plan to keep your BJD collection small or big?
I plan to keep my collection small. Right now I'm thinking maybe 4 dolls in total, but there are just so many nice dolls out there... :sweat 6 is the absolute maximum I'm thinking of though.

How many dolls would you determine as little or a lot?
I think any collection in the single digits is small, and if you can make a doll orchestra I think that's a lot.

    9. I definitely want to keep a small collection. I don't have the money or space for a large collection- as it is I only have two dolls and one floating head. Part of the reason I keep my collection small is because I'd rather have a small amount of dolls I can perfect and lavish overtime, then have a lot of dolls and have some of them neglected because I can't afford to pay attention to a lot of detail on so many. Also, quite honestly, while there are many lovely BJD's, the amount of BJDs that I find purchase worthy for my tastes is really almost negligent. Aside from the two I have now and maybe a couple more, I really just enjoy looking but not buying.

    10. I plan to have around 6 dolls eventually. Although I'm going to try and take my time with that and spoil the ones I have, and then when I feel that they are sufficient, buy the next.
I feel that 5 and below is a small-ish collection, while 10 and up is a larger collection. ^^

    11. I've always planned for a large collection. I love having so much variety with my girls. Each and every one of them is special to me, and I love when I get to add more family members. I live by myself in a spacious area, so space isn't a problem. I like to spread my dolls out! I keep anywhere from 3-8 dolls in my office, 1-2 in my bedroom, usually 1 or 2 in the kitchen/living room area, and the rest in the family room on their bookshelves! I really enjoy seeing my dolls no matter where I go in my house :) Money isn't really an issue, either. I buy what girls I know I can afford. And I make sure when I buy her that I know I will want to keep her because I don't like selling dolls. And I've been good so far on that. I've kept all my girls! And I plan to.

I really don't mind if my collection ends up being really large. They are different and unique in their own ways, and they make me happy. I think collections of all sizes are great! I just lean more towards a bigger family :)

    12. Big! I just fall in love with so many sculpts. I can't bring myself to downsize, so the collection continues to grow and grow. Ah well, the more the merrier.

    13. This is a very hard hobby to make a plan for.
I only intended to have one, then two, then three...then it turned to four. Now I'm waiting for my ninth and hope to get one more.
Some dolls you think you'll love you can't bond with and end up selling them, some dolls you get just to use the body and end up loving the head and keeping it as a whole doll. New beautiful dolls are coming out all the time. This hobby just seems to go with the flow after a while of trying to control those plans.

    14. I would like a few SD sized one, perhaps two boys and two girls and a myriad of tinies :D But really, I don't want too big of a collection. Some people manage that easily and have a good clue of how they want each and everyone of them to look, but I feel I would just put a good chunk of them aside and only focus on a couple anyway.

To me a collection gets too big if it passes ten dolls, that includes tinies. More than five big ones is getting on the edge.

    15. I've always planned on keeping my BJD collection small. When I started, there wasn't very many sculpts I like. Now, I'm finding more and more I like, so it's hard to keep my plans small. I'm hoping to keep the maximum amount at 20. I guess that's considered small, but it still seems like a lot to me. I could see myself having more, but it's seems like a lot to keep track of.

    16. I prefer a small collection, that way I can keep focus on the needs of every doll and have a lots of clothes for every one. Also I don't have a lot of money to buy new ones. For me a small collection would be less than 5 and a big one would be more than 8.

    17. I'm only planning on having a small(ish) collection... but then again, I'm only just starting out and I realise that's what everyone says before the resin addiction takes hold! For me, I'd classify a collection straying into the double digits as reasonably sized to large, and anything below that as small ^__^

I originally told myself I'd only ever get mini sized dolls due to wanting enough room to display them properly, but that's kind of flown out of the window already. I haven't ordered any bigger dolls yet, but I've fallen hard for DC Christina, and the chance to own a Volks SDGr Lorina would be an absolute dream come true...

    18. I'd like to have a big collection. My ideal would be something from nearly every company, lots of sizes and just lots of characters. I'd be very happy to be that crazy lady with lots of dolls :D

    19. I'm only just now coming back into the hobby, but when I got my first doll I thought I'd like at least three total MSD dolls. I thought the SDs were too big and the tinies seemed pointless.

Then I went to a doll meet and saw some fantastic dolls in all kinds of sizes and now I have no idea where I will stop. I imagine I won't go over 5 MSDs at the very most until I move somewhere with more space.

Over 10 seems like a large collection to me. ^^

    20. I'll try to keep it quite small. I just don't have the space for alot of them. But this year I'll buy 3-4 more dolls, depending on the budget, making the now 4 dolls I have to 7-8 dolls. It's still quite small, right? :sweat
