It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. ABJD Lovers Under 17 Years Old!

May 5, 2012

    1. Gr8pes Welcome back!

Isar Welcome to the hobby. Good luck saving for your first! :)

      Melanie She's beautiful. Good luck!

    2. VitreousSanity13, thank you, I hope that it will be quickly(:

    3. I really want Iris, too! Hope you can get her, Melanie. I ordered the Ariana. I had planned on blushing her with some purple tones, but then I saw Iris and was like, do want!
Sometimes i wonder why Ariana is OT, but Ashley isn't. Hm.

    4. So. Being young in this hobby isn't easy. You're not old enough for it to be considered a 'real, respectable hobby', but you're not young enough for it to be 'just a childish toy'. It kinda sucks. A lot.

I'm 14, which is a bit young, even for the young side of the hobby, but this isn't child's play.

Besides other people's reactions to your age and hobby, what else do you find difficult about being young in the hobby?

I, for one, find it excruciatingly difficult to save money for dolls. Doing little jobs around the neighborhood is great, and does bring in some money, but nowhere near enough for a doll. I'm too young to get a job, and, even if I were to try, I don't have any time for it, thanks to year-round school and painfully in-depth homework assignments that take FOREVER. Not to mention, keeping a social life above the water is difficult in itself, let alone when you've got no time and you're consumed with this hobby.

Another thing I find difficult is explaining everything to my mother. She tries, she really does, but she just doesn't understand why I love it so much. I can't blame her, but it makes it hard. Also, since I don't have a credit card, when I do have enough money for a dollie, I have to consult my mother and get her to buy it for me, and I have to pay her back later. It gets confusing, and, since my mother is in finance and wants me to learn how it is to be an adult, she charges an overhead, middleman cost. It's not much, but it makes it hard to coordinate.

So. What makes being so young so hard for you?

      <3, Simba

    5. Yes, I do wonder what makes her off-topic considering the close resemblance in the dolls, but I suppose that's the way it is! I really don't think I will be able to afford her in time though. The person that wanted to buy the doll I'm selling just decided against it, so now I'm another $250 away when I thought I would have that to put towards her. :( I really wish my mother would let me do a layaway with her but she doesn't find it responsible to "spend money I don't have." At least that's how she sees layaways.

In response to DeadRoseCircus, being young in this hobby is really hard, as well as discouraging. I've been in and out of the hobby because of it many times. It is difficult to explain to people to begin with, not to mention at an age where EVERYONE is judging your decisions. Just hang in there and remember why you love the hobby! :)

    6. Hello there Gr8pes and Isar : )

Melanie- Iris is darling <3 I admire Leeke's unique art dolls. And I didn't know Ariana is OT?? Aww.

DeadRoseCircus- Hi! Can I call you Simba then? Being in this hobby got a lot easier once I got a Paypal and my own debit card. Worse for my bank account though, haha.

    7. Melanie, I can understand that. Especially if you don't have a fixed income. :/ If anything, you can continue to save and eventually have enough to buy her second hand? Or maybe a new art body release will come out and you'll like that one even more.

DeadRoseCircus, Although I'm not that young anymore, it does seem pretty difficult to obtain dolls and what not. I got lucky, I guess. I had a steady income at the time and my father didn't seem to care much. At first he was like "dafuq why you buying something so expensive???" but now he doesn't mind. As long as I pay my bills first and set aside savings, I can do what I like with my money. It was a bit harder to buy things when I didn't get my high school account and debit card. But all I had to do was put money in my dad's account and then ask my dad for his card xD I still deal with the whole "everyone judging you" thing. I'm young enough to still have kids my age think i'm a freak, and i'm old enough to have adults think i'm crazy/immature.

    8. >I'm young enough to still have kids my age think i'm a freak, and i'm old enough to have adults think i'm crazy/immature.

      I know that feel, bro. : (

    9. Money. Absolutely the money. I don't have a BJD yet, and I figure that - without any help from jobs of any sort - it will take me about four years to get her. I want to get an Etsy store to help along with it, but my Mom won't let me.

And that brings me to the second reason: my family. They're supportive of everything I do - except this. My dad is disinterested, my mom only mildly so, and my brother is full-fledged against it. Which I think is unfair, considering the fact that they encourage me in absolutely everything else. (except for stupid, dangerous stuff, of course. I'm talking about my hobbies, mostly.) :(

    10. I have the same situation Maple Squad does. :-/
Only, when I try to explain to other people about my dolls that are around my age, they laugh and think it's "barbie-like and CHILDISH." Except for my growing up with Bestie. She adores my dolls, and even is saving for a Littlefee o.o

Money used to be hard for me, but now I am old enough to have a job permit,so I am working w/ my dad, keeping his shop up. (Answering calls, taking peoples names, numbers, cleaning, etc.) ^-^

I promised I'd post Ember's FULL backstory on DA for you guys to read, so here it is:

    11. I have a job as well, but the Cross Country season starts up soon and I am unable to work during that time because I have practice everyday during the week and meets on weekends. So for about two 1/2 months I will have no income and need to save my current money for gas, my cell phone bill, and paying for kitten supplies during that 2 month period. *_*
Maybe I will get some good luck later on in the month as far as selling my current bjd and guitar. :)

    12. That's cool! :D
No, I don't have any concrete plans yet. It's too soon anyway, I'm going to Uni in October and it will take me 4 years to graduate! :|
After that I would like to live in Japan for a little while - for a few months or a year or two... And only then I plan to move to the US. It doesn't necessarily need to be California, there are so many places in the US I would like to visit and perhaps even move there :)

Thank you. The dark fabric works fabulously with her pale resin I guess :)

Thanks, I really liked it as well :)
Yeah, that must be fun to do. My problem is Ivy is my first doll so I pretty much own nothing yet :')
I'm slowly saving up for more and more stuff. Just bought a new wig, now I'm looking for new eyes and shoes as well... Oh, the pain of realizing you're going to be spending way too much money! :s
As for the face-up, I'm dying to change Ivy's default one but first I must buy face-up materials - which means more money! Specially for the MSC thing...

Why would your school want to visit Portugal?! o.O
Hahah, just kidding. xD Seriously though, it really puzzles me that you would come so far for a school trip but still it must have been fun :)
Glad you liked it <3 Where have you been, which city? Both in Portugal and Spain :)

Oh don't be that surprised. The "American Dream" still exists and most people around the world still go for it. I'm not the only one I'm sure :)
L.A. is fabulous! But there are so many cities and places in the US that I would like to visit ^^ The American culture and life-style in general is fascinating to me :)

Oh, I kind of know what you're feeling. I have a big family and over the years most of us moved to different countries. We still get together during the Holidays whenever we can and I hear most of them say they wish they could've stayed. But it's like what you just said, it seemed like a good idea at the time and it still is in a certain way. And you still can go back to Singapore one day if you feel like it or the perfect opportunity comes :)

      Thank you :)
It's from Luts. However I think it's too light. It looks so wrong with her pale eyes :/
I just bought a darker one from Leeke so let's see if it will look better on her ^^

    13. Melanie- Yay! Fellow XC-er! Do you do track as well?
Well to stay on topic, I hope you're able to make & save money for your BJDs somehow *0*

xSushi- Ah, I see! I'm going to college in August as well! I guess I should make the most of it, there's plenty of time after that to live new places. I would love to see Japan outside the airport, to Harajuku, Shibuya 109, the mountainsides and cherry blossoms. :D

Ha ha, I know what you mean about gaining stuff. My doll stuff totally invaded my room! XD
Have you considered sending Ivy to a commission artist? It's less expensive in the long run...art supplies are so crazy expensive. @__@''

We landed in Lisbon, then went to Evora and Algarve on our way to Sevilla in Spain ^^ Then we went to Costa del sol and up to Granada and then the capital Madrid. Everywhere was so beautiful!!!

dollyb- Cool backstory! Have you any idea what her future will be? Will she return to royalty?

    14. I love running! I had a knee injury in the spring of my sophomore year and was stuck in a brace for 8 months, and have been nervous to start training again. But I am planning on doing xc and track this year (my senior year)
And Thanks! I just keep finding all these LEs that I absolutely adore.. I need to stop doing that! Hahaha :)
Anyone expecting dolls in the mail soon, or ordering soon?

    15. I love running too! Good luck in your training! I did xc and track my senior year as well. Running is just so fun, and it's healthy and probably the least expensive hobby you could have hahaha.

I noticed you added the new Soom doll to your saving list as well (in your signature) X3
      LEs, y u so tempting?!

    16. I know! I'm a hopeless saver within this hobby.. :doh A girl has gotta hope! Lol

    17. Maple Squad- Well, when I get the doll, I was gonna start a photostory series. And yes, she does. She ends up falling for a nerd in her last year of school, and yaddi yadda, well, They get married, but on their honeymoon, the dark lord spots her and takes her back to her valley, there she sees that the valley is run down, and everyone are slaves for the rich that overcome over the years, and everyone is poor and sickly, but come to find out, the rich are secretly dark lords, also. So she goes into a battle to try and save the valley, only, not knowing, the leader of the dark lords, that cursed her to mordern years, is taking over the world behind all the battle for the valley. :)

I love running!!! I am doing track, also. :3

    18. dollyb- Oh awesome! I didn't know there were so many runners in this thread. Anybody else here run much? :3 Do you know what events you're going to do? I was mid-distance myself.

Do you have dolls to represent the dark lords? Or are they character-only? Will her nerdy partner have a role in saving her, or is she the type to figure thins out on her own?

Wut. My sewing machine decided to stop working on me. I was making a cute summery dress for Seele so I hope it starts working again soon xD

    19. Running ftw! :)

Dollyb - your backstory is so intriguing! I have so many ideas rushing through my head for OCs right now, especially with all the new sculpts I'm seeming to fall in love with. That's honestly what I like the most about the hobby, just being creative with it. Woot!

    20. Maple Squad- I was actually looking at getting a Soom boy for the leader. But there is thousands of dark knights, soo. But she um gets locked in a dungeon after returning with the leader and her brother is in there. He got cursed too,and he knows all the secrets and plans of the dark and they start the battle. XF The nerd boy,Alexander, well, who knows.

      Edit:
Melani- Thanks! Yeah I'm the same way! It's fun though!
