1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Aesthetics or posebility?

Sep 6, 2022

    1. I like a good balance of both, but personally I find conspicuous joints very aesthetically pleasing, especially when they're designed artfully. For example I love the extra wrist and ankle joints on Doll Chateau dolls, and the fact that they have very visible joints does not detract from their beauty.

So for me "aesthetics" has little to do with posing... A doll could be the best "poser" on earth but if it looks like a vacuum sealed bodybuilder I will never want it. On the flipside, a doll could have the perfect physique but if it's totally single jointed I will not give it the time of day. That's why I've avoided the Dollshe Rhythmos body even though I've had multiple opportunities to get one secondhand- it's perfect aesthetically, but I can't justify those single jointed limbs.

    2. Aesthetics all the way for me! I will only buy dolls that I enjoy looking at. Posability can easily be enhanced multiple ways (suede, wiring etc), while doing mods on the face sculpts requires much more skill and effort.

    3. Aesthetics, but within reason. No matter how beautiful a body is, if it can't stand or sit on its own or do very basic poses, I'm going to be annoyed with it. Crazy posing is awesome, but if the body has too many joints to look pretty nude or in revealing clothing, I don't want it.

    4. For me, aesthetics is what attracts me to it, and posability is what convinces me to buy it.

    6. For me it’s aesthetics, but then I’m more of a basic-poses kind of gal anyway and the main thing my dolls are required to be are great slouchers! Everyone over here mostly just lounges around in comfortably created displays, so extreme poses just aren’t that necessary for me. I especially love those Doll Chateau bodies with the elongated limbs and extra joints (I have several in different sizes.) Those bodies are just so elegant and lithe looking, and nothing else can languish casually across a fainting couch quite like they can…but I wouldn’t want to rely on them standing for any period of time. So basically, if the aesthetics are correct for what I need, I’ll make do with any posing limitations.

    7. Both are for sure important, but every single doll I've bought for the aesthetics, I've immediatley boxed up again and sold if the posing wasn't what I wanted. So far I've purchased and resold 7 (!) dolls because the posing wasn't what I wanted. The only survivor so far has been my bimong narae fusion, who is absolutely the best of both worlds: fantastic posing, and I think really lovely design. I think her body is actually a lot more attractive than a lot of bodies that explicitly sacrifice poseability for the looks. You truly can have it all! lol

    8. Posing is the reason I became interested in bjd in the first place. A lot of other doll types like porcelain or playline are infuriatingly limited in their posing, so even with simple joint systems bjd are already way above.
I find I enjoy bodies that are realistic but not overly detailed, more so giving the idea and silhouette of a real human rather than pushing for hyperrealism to the detriment of poseability.
