1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Alice in Wonderland and dolls

May 23, 2007

    1. It could also have something to do with the very popular recent Tim Burton movie; though even before that, it has always been rather trendy.

    2. It is a trend and like all trends there is a strong moment where everyone is doing it, then there is the renewal (Dark alice) and then it stops and it goes on something else ^^
I've started to see a lot of Little Red Riding Hood themed BJD (and other stuff) and many others but Alice is even more known as it is ageless =O!

    3. Well, an Alice theme can go in a lot of different directions- classic illustration Alice, Disney Alice, American McGee Alice, Burton Alice... and everything beyond and in between. I like pretty much any direction it can go in, myself. I remember having the books read to my sister and I when we were very young. It's a whimsical world that can be cute and colourful and wonderful, but it can also be dark or disorienting and very scary.

I think there's room for every company to do their own take on Alice, but after they do so, it'll be nice to see what the next theme(s) are.

      =^__^=

    4. Well i think Alice in wonderland is classic theme that can expend into different direction / angle, depends on individual liking. The same ideology for barbie dolls, i guess.....because every kids anywhere recognise Alice in Wonderland, kids grow up with fantastic imagination that can widen the mind.....

    5. I'll go with the childhood experience opinion.

Maybe that's why I don't see the charm of Alice in Wonderland.
I've never read the original book, and I've only seen the Disney film a year ago.
Tim Burton's version was entertaining, but not 'OMG FANTASTIC'.
      That, and it's EVERYWHERE.
And if there's one thing that makes me hate something, is when it's everywhere.

The story is great, but the theme has gotten dull and boring in my opinion.
(I know I'm going to get shot for this)

    6. - A lot of things in the book are based on mathmatics. My teacher actually used a quote from it as an example of math logic.

      - I rather wish more people would go with a lighter interpretation more often. It seems like most all Alice stories these days are gothy and dark; while I don't have anything aganist that, I would like to see more classical fantasy versions.

      - That being said, I have the Alice Yo-SD and Cheshire Cat outfit from Volks, am wanting a anthro Cheshire from Pipos, and am now sorely tempted to make a Jabberwocky costume for one of my boys since it is my favorite poem.

Also, now I have to link to this musical version of Jabberwocky by Omnia - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac186kDfHP8

    7. Dolls and Alice in Wonderland seem to go hand in hand. Alice in Wonderland is such an amazing film, so the magic of it goes well with these dolls I guess. It's fun to role play with these dolls and the story totally works.

    8. First of all Alice is easily recognizable, and there's also a lot of interpretations, like McGee's goth Alice and Disney Alice. It's really popular in lolita fashion because it's so nonsensical and whimsical, and a lot of dolls dress in lolita :P I've always loved the books and the movies (andcoughamguiltyofcollectingeverythingAliceIcanfindcough...) so I also plan on getting Alice cosplay for my doll when she gets here :D

    9. This thread attract me immediately because my first momoko doll is an Alice in Wonderland theme (Baby Blue Labyrinth) (http://www.momokodoll.com/lineup/blue.php). Then when I come to the dark side of BJD, my very first Unoa is also based on Alice in Wonderland theme. She's limited edition in Harajuku Doll Exhibition. I am from the person who not interested in Alice in Wonderland at all but because of dolly world, I now become addictted to Alice theme. ^^ I think Alice is a timeless story and always a great combination with doll.

    10. I honestly think that the whole Alice theme is so attractive BECAUSE it can go in so many different directions. Light, fun, airy, childish, dark, nightmaresh. So in a way it really can appeal to everyone, plus there are a vary of characters with very different kinds of personalities. I believe it makes it easy to adapt it your own personal tastes while still being able to retain "Alice."

    11. That's actually debatable. In fact one of the many things being debated on right now in Carrollian circles. I suggest that anyone who has an interest in Lewis Carroll check out Carrollmyth.com. It has a list of the biographies written about him as well as some interesting facts about what is and isn't known about the man.

As far as Alice in Wonderland, I'm not so much attracted to the story as I am the fashion. I've always had a love for Victorian and Edwardian style, and anything that tends to deal with it. But the fact that everyone and their mom (read companies)seems to be making Alice themed dolls/outfits is getting a little old if you ask me. It'll be interesting to see what the next trend is.

    12. even though i didn't care for the story growing up and didn't like the disney one at all (ok maybe not all of it, i really like the pansys since they do look like they have faces)...and now i love it because it's a muse for me artisticly, it lets me be very creative.

    13. Alice in Wonderland is an incredibly popular book. It's the second most frequently quoted in the world, second only to the Bible. Of course companies would capitalize on something that popular and recognizable. They've probably only not done biblical people because it would be offensive to some.

    14. Thank you thank you THANK YOU Cloudedmind~!~!~! This "popular" accusation certainly adds/subtracts to the Alice theme exponentially but its become so repugnant and exhausting to those of us who have spent time/years/careers researching and studying the life and works of Carroll. For those who are blithely tossing this out there - please back it up with cited works/links that have convinced you that there is truth in this.

    15. Hehe, no problem. It actually took me a day before I added my two cents worth, mostly because "I" needed to go back and check some things. I haven't done any extensive studying about him myself, although I am thinking about doing more now, but I had heard that statement made before and the opposing argument against it some time ago and needed to recheck things for myself.

    16. You would probable understand if you read the book. 8D
