ALL Infiniti Doll - SID13 girls: Daffodil, Miho, Reina, Isabella... etc

Aug 2, 2010

    1. Anna: It is. I find sometimes planning for them is almost a waste of time because they'll do the exact opposite as soon as they get here. I tend to like it better when they grow into themselves though because forcing anything just leads to lack of interest for me because the doll in question never looks right.

It was fun to watch her make. The skirt was a huge circle of fabric. I can only imagine with a real person how much it would take! I'm sure though that Violetta is having a lovely time in her slip and Victoria doesn't look unhappy either. ;)

It's a Monique wig. I find that a lot of my guys are now starting to wear them. Aside from CanCan wigs, they style very easily and are just fun to play with. So soft! *_* It also looks great next to more regular fiber-wigs like here:

      - Thanks for sharing the pic! The dress came out very nice and Grace looks fabulous in it. I can't wait for my Daffodil to arrive so I can try making one for her.

Speaking of which, today marks 1 month since I ordered her so hopefully she'll be coming home soon.

    3. sephyelysian, I totally agree with you about planning for them being a waste of time; for me, even just general musings on the doll's character are often wrong once she arrives. But, I'm very happy the way Violetta fit into my doll family - unexpected, but better than I had anticipated. Though, my El is still single, poor lad; none of my girls seem to be interested in him. You'd think, he'd have better luck being the only male among an army of females

It's funny, but lately, I've been loving Monique wigs very much. Right now, a good majority of my girls are wearing them. They are very soft and easy to style. Aside from an occasional mohair wig, I think I'm going to stick with Monique from now on.

About the dress. I cannot imagine making one for a real person! When I made the skirt for my MSD-sized girl, the big circle was overwhelming already; it would take much more skill than I have to do this in human size for sure. I wanted to ask you, did Amet end up hemming the skirt? What type of fabric did she use?

serenity, I hope your girl makes it home soon! :)

    4. *sneaks in* I'm going to answer this one since I actually did the sewing! *eyeshifts* Tell no one I have no Infiniti girl of my own, only an incoming boy. XD;

Anyway, cutting out the skirt for that dress was ridiculous. The square measured a good 80cm (which was still too small, so her skirt's actually a little shorter than I'd have liked) and it was almost too much to handle before I folded it. I can't imagine doing it human-sized either—what a monster that would be! I just used polyester knit like the tutorial said, though I did stand around like a doofus in the fabric store pulling on the different types to find the heavier knit that didn't fray. It still drapes nicely &etc, but I didn't have to hem it. The way the straps are folded over, it manages not to look sloppy.

The amazing Infiniti bust pretty much asks for that sort of dress, I think. ;D

    5. Serenity: I hope your girl arrives soon! I highly recommend the Infinity dress. It's great for really showing off the Infinitidoll figure!

Anna: I think I've only ever had one doll turn out as planned and even then he sometimes didn't work out with the clothes I wanted him, too. XD I'm glad she was able to fit in though! Alys was a total accident doll for me. I liked the Rona sculpt and I wanted one but I had originally planned on trying to do a very effeminate boy. Which lasted five minutes! I'm much happier with her as a girl and it's nice to see Grace have a counterpart nearly her own size.

Lately most of my dolls have gone to Monique for much the same reasons. I think once you figure out how to style them, it's so much easier and they seem to maintain their shape better. Also, I love touching their hair. :lol It's so much more fun!

    6. Thanks Anna, sephyelysian! As nice as it would be for her to come home this next week I really shouldn't expect her to be shipped for a few more weeks. I'm just getting anxious. Last Monday I received her clothes I ordered from Luts then yesterday I ordered her eyes.

Regarding the Monique wigs, what size would Daffodil wear? I've had my eyes on the Ginger and Pretty Girl but heard they run large. (I know, I said I wasn't buying any more wigs :sweat I hate having no willpower.) Have either of you ordered from Monique directly? Or do you use one of the other vendors?

    7. Amet, thank you for answering my questions! It seems that I got the same fabric as you did, so I think the issue I had with my skirt was bad cutting on my part. How did you cut out the circle so that it looked all nice and even? Any special tools? Or, just experience? :)

sephyelysian, I love touching the hair too! I love the way Monique soft fiber wigs feel to the touch; so much better than the stiffer fibers Leeke uses (in my opinion). The only Monique wig that I have trouble with is Paris, since it is so prone to flyaways. I have to spray it down with wig spray every so often so that it doesn't get in the doll's face too much. Do you use any special products to style/tame the wigs?

serenity, Violetta's wig is Monique Evelyn in size 7-8; it fits perfectly - not so snug that it's difficult to get on, but not so loose that it doesn't stay on. That wig stays put without a wig cap or any other wig attachment gear. I'm very happy that I went for the smaller size, as I am sure that 8-9 would require a wig cap of some sort. My second choice for Violetta was actually Pretty Girl, but I decided that I wanted a shorter style, so went for Evelyn instead. As far as ordering the wigs, I always order from Monique.com. They ship very quickly and have a lot of variety. The only thing that I'd recommend doing before ordering, is emailing and asking if the wigs that you want are in stock. Their website does not keep a stock inventory, and even though I've only ran into stock issue once with them, I ask anyway, so that I am not disappointed when a wig doesn't ship.

    8. Hmm, the JoJo wig I have on Grace is an 8-9 and it fits perfectly without a wig cap. Admittedly Monique wigs have stretchy head caps but the 7-8 didn't fit her head at all. Do you suppose it's the particular style of wig? Granted her current wig is almost 2 years old so it's possible that the 8-9s were smaller but that's odd.

Then again, I have a CanCan wig from 3 years ago that's an 8-9 and it fits my SDs head perfectly but one I got a year ago was thin and way too tight for an SD head.

We don't use anything special to style the wigs. We've tried Volks wig oil in the past but it didn't really add or detract anything from the wig. Mostly we just keep on top of the flyaways.

Serenity: I've ordered directly from Monique and never had an issue. I've also ordered from Jpopdolls.net and they're also good. The only I would warn you about with Jpop is that if they don't ship with in two days, send them an inquiry about when you should expect your item. It tends to hit the mail very fast after that.

    9. I would love to say I'm a magical sewing fairy, but alas, I am not. I just drew the circle and cut it out (with the cat trying to crawl into my lap, so I'm sure it's a bigger mess than it looks). XD

    10. Thank you Anna, sephyelysian, for the information regarding the wigs. Unfortunately I've had a similiar problems with a few of the wigs I've bought in 8-9 being too big or too small. Sometimes it's even been the same style but a different color.

I think I'll take my chances with the 7-8. If it doesn't fit Daffodil I have another girl who may be able to use it. I'm assuming her head is smaller than Daffodil's. She doesn't have a body of her own yet but I may be having her use Daffodil's body occasionally if she fits and buy another Infiniti one for her sometime next year.

    11. sephyelysian, hmm interesting about the wigs. I guess it does depend on the wig style. So far, I can confirm that Evelyn fits in size 7-8 in two colors (the blonde ones). I don't have any other Monique wigs in that size, but Evelyn in size 8-9 is, indeed, a bit loose (I have that wig in a brown color for my old Custom House Choa, whose head is definitely bigger than Daffodil's).

I do notice variation in wig quality over the years from various wig companies. For example, I can definitely say that Monique wigs have gotten better over the years. I have some very old ones from around 2004 that are just not that good - very stiff and difficult to style. On the other hand, I feel that Leeke wigs have gotten worse; the ones I have from 2004 are full and beautiful, while the ones I got recently are very hit or miss and for the most part look very little like the pictures.

Amet, I am sure your cutting is much neater than mine. I did get better scissors since then, so we'll see how it comes out when I work on Violetta's dress :)

serenity, which wig style did you decide on? And, what color?

    12. Anna, I'm undecided at the moment so I may end up getting both styles. Regarding the color, I think I'm leaning towards the light peach/ginger brown for the "Ginger" and golden strawberry/chestnut brown for the "Pretty Girl". Before placing my order, I decided I should wait until she gets her face up completed in case she seems more like a brunette or favors a lighter blonde. Usually the color I plan in advance never seems right once I see them in person.

Do you own wigs in either of these colors? If so, do you like the color compared to your other wigs?

    13. Quick question but if I missed it in the earlier posts, sorry. Can the girls wear 9-10" Crobidoll wigs? They don't have very much 8-9" to choose from :sweat

    14. I've some Crobidoll wigs. I'll see how they fit the Daffodil's head and will get back to you.

    15. Double post and I apologize but Soap, I just tried on one of my boys' 9-10 Crobidoll wigs on my Daffodil. It is far too big and does not stay on the Daffodil's head unaided and goes down right over her ears. I then put a wig cap on to see if that would help and it did a little but I would not recommend that size. 8-9 is a better bet.

    16. Awh, darn. Thanks so much for checking for me though! Very much appreciated.

    17. I was just looking though infinitidolls site for the first time saw Vivian:aheartbea:aheartbea
