ALL Infiniti Doll - SID13 girls: Daffodil, Miho, Reina, Isabella... etc

Aug 2, 2010

    1. sephyelysian, I am glad to hear that she looks good next to Delfs! Out of my six SDs, four are Delfs, so I am very happy to hear that Daffodil looks good with them. Also, my only boy is a Delf (El) and my initial thought was to have them be a couple - I can't wait to see how they look together :)

serenity, I can relate to the wig issue! I've been in the hobby since 2003, so my total wig count stands at a little under 60. I used to buy wigs before the doll arrived and almost always the wig ended up not being right, so I would buy another, and so it goes. I decided to window shop for wigs before arrival, but not buy any at all until I get the doll in hand. She can then try on what I have and I'll get a better idea of what suits her and make a more educated purchase. But, my ultimate goal is to use up what I have.

About making clothes. I just started out experimenting in this area. I know how to sew on buttons, but I'm by no means a seamstress, so this is a work in progress for me. So far, I made socks and a basic skirt. Also, I don't have a sewing machine, so I do everything by hand. I am happy with the socks, though I can't say the same about the skirt - need to practice more! Do you make clothes?

    2. Anna: We have a household of Delfs over here, too (2 girls, 5 boys, to say little of the 2 SSDFs and the SDF girl!) so it was really important to me that she at least look she could be part of the same world. I don't have an El anymore but I can tell you that next to Shine, Chiwoo, and Moon, she definitely fits. I keep meaning to get a picture of everyone together.

We are serial wig buyers over here and in fact, are trying to make ourselves go through and sell some of those wigs so you both have my sympathies.

My wife is more the seamstress than I am. Most of our endeavors though have been in making clothing for our Littlefee and MNFs. We've both been pretty inspired to /want/ to make something for Miss Grace since her figure is so nice.

    3. sephyelysian- Your Welcome >^o^<
+_+ Glad no major satinging issues for you and it came off with magic eraser.
Thanks.. it is a very ncie outfit ^_^
Thanks aboutt he advice of staining and all. I will do that ^__^

Serenity- I wa snot very happy when I saw it,but I agree with you about it all coming off ^_^
+_+ Did your stains from the socks come off?

I also thought about a silicon wig cap and then saw something on here about how someones msc on the face up came off with it +_+

I think I will do what sephyelysian mentioned XD and also what you said any stain comes use eraser ^__^

also that is a very pretty wig.

About sewing my attemps have failed. I think I need some elastic. I just do not have all the sewing laterials I need yet. I do plan on trying again once I get the elastic XD

Anna- Hi and welcome. I look forward to seeing you girl when you get her if you plan to taking pics.

wow you all have lots of wigs. I am more towards clothing +_+ Everytime I think I will get Miyuki a pair of shoes I come across clothing I like and get it instead :)

    4. Those are very good ideas regarding the wigs Anna and sephyelysian. I probably should consider doing the same as you both and try to use what I have on hand first and sell off those I no longer intend to use.

Mystical Rose- Yes thankfully I was able to get the marks off. Thanks I like the wig too.

Like the rest of you, I don't sew very well myself but I've been eager to try to make something for Daffodil. I've been a little disappointed with the lack of clothing available for a doll with her figure. It seems like the majority of dresses available are either the Lolita type or urban styles and I have nothing against them but I'd also like her to have a few more mature pieces in her wardrobe.

I guess the reason I brought up this question in the first place is I was wondering if any of you have attempted to make this dress called the Infiniti dress I found in the sewing thread.(I know, strange it has the same name as our dolls)
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...e-Infinity-Dress-Tutorial-(Easy-for-Beginners!)

Anyways, it seems fairly easy to make and you can even sew it by hand if you like. I'd like to try it because it looks like a versatile garment and doesn't seem too difficult to construct for a novice like myself.

    5. serenity, it's so funny that you brought up that tutorial! That skirt I mentioned earlier was actually based on the human version of that Infinity dress. I scaled down the human version to my Bluefairy girl (she's a bit chubbier than a MNF, so I wouldn't be able to use the MNF measurements for her) and in the process decided to just make a skirt first without attaching the straps - it was faster and, well, I felt lazy that day :blush
I actually like the way the skirt came out, my only issue with it is that I don't like the way it looks un-hemmed. I used the same exact material as the tutorial suggested (the human version of it), and while the fabric doesn't fray, it just looks unfinished to me. I need to sit down and hem it - it will just take a while to do by hand, especially since I made it ankle length.

Having said that, the tutorial is quite easy, and it's very easy to scale to any doll you may have, so give it a shot!

Mystical Rose, I definitely plan to take lots of pictures, including posting a box opening! My girl was shipped today, so I should have her here very soon :)

sephyelysian, that's quite a lot of Delfs! I understand, though, because they are among my favorite SD-sized dolls. They are some of my oldest dolls (all from 2004), so it is important to me that any SDs I bring home fit in well with them. As for the wig issue, that is my ultimate plan as well - sort through everything and sell off those that I definitely won't be using. They are all quality wigs, some just ended up not being my style when I got them home (and, I think anyone who buys lots of wigs knows that company pictures can be quite different from what you end up receiving).

    6. Mystical Rose: You're welcome! :)

Serenity & Anna: We were actually looking at the Infiniti dress the other day and trying decide how best to size that up. We also have some patterns we bought from DDE that we might try futzing with the measurements on to see if they work and I will let you know if that works. As I said, I am not a natural seamstress but Amet is and so are a couple of my friends so maybe we can work something out.

I also made an Infinitidoll Daffodil database in the Gallery to encourage more people to share their girls. I hope that more people put up Infinitidoll databases because they are sorely under-represented and I would love to see more of them.

    7. sephyelysian, I am no seamstress, but I was able to scale the skirt to my Bluefairy girl very easily from the human version tutorial - http://sewlikemymom.com/little-red-infinity-dress-tutorial/ All the measurements are explained very well and it's easy to apply them to any doll you may have.

I think a Daffodil database is a great idea! It would be nice to get databases going for all the Infiniti sculpts, not just have them pooled into one post. But, as it looks right now, no one seems to have any other girls on DoA (at least no one that actively posts). That's really too bad because I very much want to see owner pictures of Isabella and Vivian. Shortly after getting into this hobby, I made a promise to myself not to buy anything before seeing owner pictures (except for limited sculpts), as I made quite a few wrong choices buying only based on company pictures. But... if I like Daffodil when she gets here, I may just have to make an exception for Vivian or Isabella - they are really calling my name :D

    8. Anna: Thank you! That's awesome and I will pass it on to Amet as well so we can both pour over it. I would love to see the pictures of what you got done!

      I have to admit before I took the plunge on the Daffodil, the Isabella was really calling to me and I still haven't quite shaken that but like you, I'm wanting to see user pics first. I was lucky with the Daffodil because Snowgray lives in the same city and we attend the same meet ups so I knew what I was getting. I would really like to see pictures of the Isabella and the Reina especially. Amet's buying a Dreaming Louis so I guess I'll get to see a boy up close and personal soon. XD;;

It's hard though with company photos to know what you're getting. I bought a Dreamingdoll Hue back from Crobidoll when they were on consignment because he looked like a cute, fresh-faced teenager and what I got was a sullen, older looking sculpt that was completely wrong. XD;; So I definitely know what you're getting at though in other cases, it worked out wonderfully (as with my Delf Moon).

    9. I'm thrilled to know you made the skirt and it worked out well for you Anna.:) I was wondering the same thing about whether it would look unfinished without a hem. I'll make a point of hemming the dress first even though it may be time consuming. Thanks for posting the link to the human version too. I think a few of her instructions are a little easier to understand than the doll's tutorial. Once Daffodil arrives and I can get her measurements I'm anxious to try making a dress for her.

Congrats on getting your shipping notice too, I can't wait to see her.

If your do decide to use your patterns sephyelysian I'm anxious to know how they worked out and would love to see what you and Amet made.

I also think it's a wonderful idea you created a Daffodil database and will be sure to add mine in there once she arrives and gets a suitable face up. Just out of curiosity do you have to contact a moderator and get permission before you start one? I've been unclear on that aspect.

Putting my two cents in on buying a doll based on owner pics rather than the company ones can be deceiving too so I prefer to use both as a guide and try to not to judge the doll solely on one source versus the other.

Even if we can't find owner pictures of Reina, Isabella, Miho or Vivian I hope it doesn't discourage others from buying them. I took a chance with my Infiniti Hue when no one else had him and am very happy I did, he's a great looking doll in person and I imagine the girls are too. I was on the fence about whether to order Daffodil, Reina or Vivian and chose Daffodil only because she appeared to be the maturest looking sculpt. I'm sure in time I'll acquire the other two girls as well even if I end up being the only one to own them.

    10. I'll definitely post when we get something worked out! As far as the database goes, the rules are pretty straightforward. Basically decide what information you want to be in the forum (like resin tone, eye color, wig, etc, etc.), make a post with that information and say at the bottom of it that you own the doll and can provide a picture of her. The post will then be locked until a mod gets around to looking at it but when they do, they'll tell you that you can take the sentence about owning the doll out and on the second post, you put up your profile and picture. You won't be able to do anything until the thread is unlocked and they PM you to let you know you've been approved so any corrections you think you want to make will have to wait until then. The mods over there are great; I've had the opportunity to create a lot of databases and have never had any trouble. But no, you don't have to contact a moderator beforehand for anything.

As I said, I've had both good luck and not so great luck with buying without seeing user sculpts. Two of my favorite dolls, I bought solely on seeing the company pictures and was not disappointed. Sometimes you just have to take a chance. What I've seen of Infinitidoll so far, I am thrilled with their quality and I think their pictures are pretty close to what you actually get which is amazing. Because of that I am really thinking I want an Isabella. :D

    11. sephyelysian and serenity, I can't wait to see what you do with the infinity dress idea - I know that it will look much better done by someone more experienced than I am  I will take a picture of the skirt and post it as well - maybe that will actually encourage me to finally sit down and hem it :)

I agree with you, serenity, that sometimes you just have to take a chance on a doll without seeing owner pictures. This ends up happening by default with limited editions, since there's no owner pictures to be had until long after the ordering period is closed. With unlimited/basic dolls, I am definitely more cautious. Like you, I take into account both amateur pictures and company presentation when I make my choice, though preferably I'd have access to both. I simply had a bad experience when I went by only company photos and ended up with 4 dolls that I simply didn't enjoy in person, so I ended up selling them. I really dislike selling my dolls, so it was a tough decision that I finally made peace with after 7 years of storing them in their boxes.

I have to admit, though, I like both Vivian and Isabella very much, so if I like the quality of Infiniti, one of them will come to live with me soon, despite lack of owner pictures. Somebody has to go first, right? :D

    12. Thanks for the explanation regarding the database sephyelysian. I'm planning on getting a new camera soon and once I learn how to use it and take some nice pictures of my Ashley I'll create a database for him soon.

I'm looking forward to seeing your skirt Anna.

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience and a few of your dolls were less than what you expected. Like you, I'd prefer not having to sell my dolls but then I'd be upset with myself keeping them around when I have no intention of displaying them. At least now you have the satisfaction of knowing someone else is enjoying them.

If either of you decide to get Isabella or Vivian, I'll look forward to seeing her.

    13. Serenity- Glad to hear the marks did come off.
Thanks for the link to the dress. I had saw it,but neverr checked it out. Very cute dress. I might have to try my hand at it as well... wish me luck when I do ~_^

Anna- I will keep a look out for your box opening and pictures. I cannot wait to see your girl XD

I agree I too would love to see pictures of the other girls.

    14. Hi all!

I'd like to share my initial thoughts on Daffodil now that I had a day to play with her. She has a nice weight to her and I think the resin color is lovely. I am still getting used to the feel of the resin - it has a lot of tooth to it that I am not used to. My collection consists of Luts, Fairyland, Old Custom House and Bluefairy for the most part and all of them have smooth resin. Are Infiniti dolls' bodies coated at all? That may explain the big difference in texture that I am seeing.

I am going to play more with her posing, but I do like the double-jointed elbows quite a bit. I'll be switching out her legs to the ball-jointed ones today to see which I like to keep her in for now. The only issue I have with her posing is that I find it difficult to have her sit without falling back. She fell back from a sitting pose a few times and gave me quite a scare (banged the back of her head on my desk - but, she's fine!). She is now sitting against the wall just in case. Any tricks to making her sit more stably?

Finally, I think Infiniti did a great job on her face-up - it is very detailed and nicely executed. The only thing I am slightly disappointed in is that her lip color was not made darker like I requested. Or, like I mentioned in my box opening, maybe it IS darker; though, in that case, the original must be barely visible, then.

Overall, I am happy with her and will continue to experiment with wigs a bit more before settling on a color. I am thinking that maybe going for a darker blonde will be a nice contrast to the very light lip color.

I'll post more pictures and thoughts a bit later! :)

    15. Congratulations Anna! One of the first things I did with my Daffodil was hot-glue suede her, particularly under her bust and inside her hip sockets. I think that helped her sit up straight. When she arrived from Infinitidoll she was very floppy, and I tightened her stringing quite a bit, so that she was very, very tight. After that she always sat and stood well for me, even in high heels. When Sephyelysian adopted her she loosened the stringing a bit.

In other news a friend linked to the SD16 girl shoes on tatabjd.com, which I hadn't seen before... I'm hoping someone will get some! ;)

    16. When I bought her from Snowgray, Amet and I loosened her stringing a bit and honestly, we've had no problems. She sits and stands beautifully so I don't think you have the tension super tight to get her to do things. I tend to find that when I buy dolls from a company, I need to restring them anyway because they're rarely to my liking.

    17. Anna-I'm glad to hear you are happy with your Daffodil. I imagine it was disappointing they didn't darken her lips like you were expecting but I agree the color could be a few shades darker than the default.

Have you made a decision whether you prefer the heeled legs or the ball jointed ones? Was it difficult to change them? To me, it looks a little complicated to attempt so I asked Infiniti to put the heel legs on my Daffodil before they send her home, so I'm hoping she will arrrive that way.

I bet she'll look very pretty with the dark blonde hair and lavender eyes.

    18. *sticks head in* This is probably super obvious, but when she's sitting up, make sure her upper-chest joint is slouching forward as far as it'll go. She doesn't bend forward far, but it might help keep her center of balance in the right spot not to pull her backward.

    19. What does it it mean you say the resin has alot of tooth in it?

I am really scared to change mine. I wish someone could to a tutorial on how to change any of Infiniti's Dolls >< I ahve never restrung a doll before.

As far as the sitting. Mine sits perfectly. My main issue is her legs are a bit wobbly and not sure what to do about it other than to tighten them +_+

      snowgray
      - those are sopme really cute looking shoes. thanks for the link ^__^

    20. Mystical Rose: It means there's a sort of roughness to it. Delfs are fairly smooth feeling as far as their resin goes though I do have an original SDF Abadon body that has a lot of tooth to it. I actually love the feel of it because it's so different from my other dolls.

Changing the legs? That wasn't so bad. Restringing isn't so bad though Grace took two of us because we had to figure out to get her heel feet on and then lay the S hooks under the flat surface of her feet. You have to lay it on its side which can be a pain depending on how much tension you have.

If you're not ready to resting, I would advocate hot glue sueding because it's pretty awesome for making their joints a little tighter and gives them more traction when they move.

Serenity: It's actually no harder to string the heel feet vs the ball jointed ones. You just have to figure out how to lay the S-hook in her heel feel in the right direction and that's it.
