Alternatives to doll carriers?

May 28, 2008

    1. You can make one! Out of few of those cheap desk chair pillows they have nice strings for tieing on to a chair that you can use to tie in the doll and roll them up all safe. The nice flat ones and then put them in a nice shopping tote! (That is what I do)

    2. I have a ProTec Flute case that goes over the shoulder! Its actually a bag to hold a flute case and a piccolo case, but my msd fits in the main pocket, my taeyang goes in the back pocket, and I can put other little accessories in the pockets on the front flap. Its nifty. It wouldn't fit an sd, though. it's kinda like this one:

    3. I took a really nice yoga bag I got from e-bay and turned it into a doll carrier for my 60cm boy. I added a foam board core to it to give him some protection, lined it with fabric and viola! Dolly bag for under $25. :3

    4. Yoga bags work really well!

I also use a large shoulder bag by Sanrio. It's huge, my MSD fits nicely in it with a blanket for padding.

    5. Even though I have three doll carriers, my crew is too numerous to fit so I've gotten creative when I move them all. When I had just one doll, I'd wrap her up and pop her in my messenger bag when I'd take her out or to conventions. I can fit two or three large dolls in my hiking backpack. And I have a huge wheeled suitcase which can hold all but one of my dolls if I am creative enough at doll-tetris. I also have a yoga mat bag that I got with a second-hand doll, although I don't use it much because there's little padding, and fitting a doll + pillows in it can be a challenge.

    6. I have (what I believe to be) a tripod case. I'm not 100% sure, as I got it at a thrift store, and cannot find any tags on it to know who made it... But it has a shoulder strap, an it unzips at the botton to add more length.

(I thought it was a compartment when I bought it, intending to use it for my MSD, but when I started cleaning it up, I realized it unzipped enough to fit my SD in it.)

It's not the most sturdy thing, like, if someone tossed something on it, the doll could get damaged, but it works for carrying it, keeping it out of sunlight. I'm thinking about adding a foam lining to it, in addition to my dolls pillows.

I'd say tripod bag or yoga bag would be a good bet, and check thrift stores for such things. I bought the aforementioned bag for under 2 USD. :3

I aaalso saw a hiking bag once that could fit two 70cm dolls side by side, and more if you stacked. And that was only the bottom layer. Other accessories could fit on the pack on top of that, and this thing could be pulled as a rolling suitcase, or strapped to your back. It was niiiice.

So just keep an eye out at stores, carry a tape measure with you, and see what might fit. That's my best advice, look at everything with your dolls in mind. ^_^

    7. I use an vintage travel suit case I bought at a flea market for $8 dollars around campus of my school. I can fit about two SD-sized dolls in there, but I don't want to max it out because I'm scared the suitcase my fall apart on me in the middle of the streets, haha.

But other than that, a lot of people do ask me if I'm traveling somewhere or traveling from somewhere, so often time I tell them that I'm actually a runaway, haha.

    8. Those file storage boxes with the latch and a handle.... That will carry 2 MSD dolls with pillows. I also packed accessories in a soft sided travel makeup case and they 'held' it for me.

    9. Hello,

I was wondering if it is safe to use a regular backpack to carry dolls. As I want something that doesn't stand out too much and is easy to wear, a backpack seems the best choice for me. Problem is, I'd also like to keep using it as a regular backpack.

Also is it safe to carry other things like books and pencil cases in the same backpack?

Sorry if these questions have already been asked before

    10. I don't see why not as long as you use something to carefully wrap the doll around in, like doll cushions or a soft, small blanket. There are a lot of backpacks that have 2 pockets, one for bigger things (the main pocket) and one that's for notebooks. I know that when I carry my dolls (usually one at a time) I put them in my backpack and keep other items in the notebook-pocket so that there won't be any damage to the doll.

I think it's safe as long as you remember you keep a doll in there so you won't just drop the backpack, lean against it (it getting stuck between you and a seat/wall etc) Just handle it with care and plan ahead how you get from point A to point B.

    11. There's nothing wrong with having them in a backpack as long as they are located away from the other things, or at least wrapped tightly with pillows so that none of your thinks accidentially stains the resin. I personally use a small suitcase since i can have more dolls in one of those but back when I went to school I often had the dolls in my school backpack and nothing bad happened

    12. Thank you for the info!

    13. Can I ask what size doll you will be fitting in your backpack/ holder???

    14. I've used a backpack to carry my dolls around. With some love and careful wrapping, I can carry a MSD along with some other things, though my YOSD tends to tag along more often, since she fits better inside.

    15. I do it all the time - I regularly bring dolls to work with me by putting them in my everyday backpack with the other stuff I carry around in there all the time.

    16. I don't have a doll yet, but I'm preparing to get one. All that I have my eye on are SD size (56cm smallest, 66cm tallest), so that is the size I'll be using.

    17. On the days I bring SD sized dolls to work - there's a lot less space for other stuff in my bag.... which is kind of obvious now I come to write it down... but it's worth bearing in mind.

    18. As long as it's safe for your doll! Maybe modify the inside of the backpack to where it's more padded on the inside, and straps to keep your doll secure so they're not just flopped on the bottom.

    19. I've always use my backpack to carry my dolls. My girls is in MSD size and I have to put her in a sitting position inside. Put a facemask to protect her head and cover her completely with a soft jacket and small pillow I got for her. :)

    20. I have also used a backpack, it was a single strap basically a laptop bag and it worked well. I prefer it as it has a bit of an extra cushion to it.
