1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Alternatives to doll carriers?

May 28, 2008

    1. Before I got some carriers I used a large waterproof canvas tote, the type you take to a gym or the beach. I just lined it with pillows to pad the dolls well. I still use it if I need to take more dolls somewhere than my carriers will hold. (A friend & I do programs on BJDs.)

    2. I have a old-fashion-styled carpet bag that I have used for my large dolls.

I have a mini carrier, so I'm set there, but for my tinies... I bought a craft tote. It is a mini-sized craft tote, with a sturdy handle coming out from the center. All around the tote are pockets and thick elastic holding straps. I can fit a small army of tinies in that thing. It is the perfect size for them too. They don't get lost, but can see where they're going. The top of the handle takes it a 10 inch height.

It looks like this, but mine is white:

The flat, wide "handles" have thick elastic straps (the horizontal black lines) which hold tinies neatly. There is a "mote" around the handles for dollies, and one or two can fit in between the handles as well. The various side pockets and secret bottom compartment hold accessories. It is almost as cute as the tinies themselves!

    3. That thing's fantastic! I love all the little pocketses!

    4. When I help take my friend's dolls abroad during the summer I like to use large gym bags, kitted out with a couple of pillows of course.

    5. I've used baskets & a bellet bag before!

    6. Soft athletic bags with handles and shoulder strap are the right size for Super BJDs. You can place a pillow in the bottom and stack the dolls with pillows between each. If you are taking more than 2 or 3 then you need more than one bag.

    7. I use canvas tote bags if I'm only carrying one or two SD sized dolls and sometimes a rolling case if I'm taking all of them along with me. Baseball bat bags also seem to work well, though I haven't actually tried mine in one yet. And my personal favourite alternative to a regular carrier is the coffin case I made, but that's on wheels (just cos the thing is about five or six pounds on it's own).

    8. I use a carry on bag that I got from a shoe shop for £10, it can easly fit two SD's in it. It is waterproof and I live in scotland.

    9. Does that mean that it's also midge proof  you know those little things get everywhere

    10. As of now I've been using my flute case to carry my MNF around. It's not waterproof and she has to bend her knees to fit but it works for me. The piccolo pocket is very useful for storing her stuff as well.

    11. so far i have found some really cheap 30inch length, nice sized shaped and reinforced army standard canvas tool bags for about £5 :3 i think i might purchase! XD

    12. I found a good deal for violin cases from greattunesdirect on EBAY. Hope that helps.

    13. Anything is midge proof, just stay away from water. But on the serious side, hadn't had any problems yet with the bugs, so I think it might be.

    14. A while back when those folding scooters were all the rage they made some bags that fit an SD perfectly. I've got one made out of fuzzy flame material. I've broken my zipper recently but haven't been able to find another one >.< I bought it at some specialty store in the mall.

    15. Totally happy I found this thread. I'm about to take my Sprite girl on vacation with me to Kentucky. Need something that blocks the sun, rain, and will be an easy thing to keep in the car with me.
I'm torn between making my own, or going hunting.

      Thrift stores, Ahoy!

    16. I found this Hello Kitty bag - I think it's meant for Baseball (to hold the bat and baseballs), but it holds my SD, MSD, and the three tinies scurrying around here - I bet I could fit more if I didn't throw my SD's doll pillow at the bottom XD;; It zips at the top, hugs against my body, and has two side pockets. I love it to death and it's really helpful!!

    17. I've been on the hunt for a good bag to hold my 3 MSD's, and a thought occurred to me... has anyone tried using a bowling bag? You know, the kind that holds your ball and shoes?

I think that if they're in a sitting position, it might just work. They're usually leather, waterproof, and pretty darned sturdy. I might test this theory if I can find one cheap enough. *wanders off to ebay*

    18. This is an awesome thread, guys! I've got some great idea's from here.
