1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Alternatives to doll carriers?

May 28, 2008

    1. I made one for my best friend out of a 20'' duffle bag from Target, using 1'' foam sheets covered in fabric to line the sides. In retrospect, it was only marginally cheaper than a pre-made doll carrier, but it holds significantly more and being able to customize it is nice.

    2. I've seen a couple of people selling custom bags on the forum, it may be worth posting a WTB :)

    3. Great I'll stay tuned,I'm searching for a nice carrier too :)

    4. Somebody else just asked about this in a different thread. Here's what I suggested:

I made one for my best friend out of a 20'' duffle bag from Target, using 1'' foam sheets covered in fabric to line the sides. In retrospect, it was only marginally cheaper than a pre-made doll carrier, but it holds significantly more and being able to customize it is nice. The bag cost about $15, but the foam is about $9 a yard, as well as the fabric.

    5. I made my own carrying case, with a small back pack and padded it with fleece. Dragons Blood really likes skulls, so the back pack that i got at the swap meet was a Vans knock off with cross bones for $10.oo.

The cool thing is that the pack is black & wight checked, and i found some fleece with the same pattern for $1.oo a yard so Lucky me!!

    6. I got a wooden and keather suitcase from a fleemarket for 10 dollar or so and my mom put cushions and straps inside. I can put like 4 msds in there.

    7. I have a fairly large handbag, so i just wrap my girl up in a padded baby blanket and put her in there. It's worked out fairly well for me so far.

    8. http://www.luggageonline.com/product.cfm?product_ID=6228

I use that, with pillows some pillows it fits about 4 SD sized dolls. I took off the long strap and plan to use it to make a inner strap with a buckle to hold them down so they dont jostle, as of right now I just tie them all together. :)

    9. I had the same problem last week and decided to make my own ^^

But yes, trolley suitcases works a dream too.

    10. Wtf a bag for an MSD is as much or more than a SD bag :O

I think I'll just improvise with this big'ol mod looking bag I found lol

    11. I also live in the UK xDD

I my self use a "borderline" bag, it's relatively spacey and can sit 2 SDs without much trouble (except that they have to lie down and scrunge up xDD)

    12. i have several bags that work great as doll carriers!

the first one i got on sale at Hobby Lobby...its an art supply bag so it has pockets on the inside and outside, handles and a shoulder strap and is very sturdy. it easily sits two SDs (or larger) opposite one another with their legs straight out, and have put my msds on top with no trouble XD

the second one was also on sale (i is cheap XD) at the Sanrino store...Hello Kitty ftw. it fits the same amount of dolls as the above in the same way, but its even better cause it zips instead of snaps. plus, Hello Kitty.

the third one is from Joannes Fabrics for MSDs. it looks like a square tote with padding...sitting the same way the dolls sit in the above bags, i can get all my MSDs and my Tiny in there easily. oh yeah, it was on sale too (hell yes!)

then i have one doll carrier that came free with a doll from Dollmore...but it doesnt count, cause its meant for dolls XD

A large purse works great for just one MSD too...they sit right in there easily.
and sometimes if i just have Alex (DM Kara Klum), i toss him over my shoulder (firemans carry) and he stays there cause he's so heavy and floppy XDD
      he really hates that.

    13. I have a rolling suitcase and I use that when I'm going somewhere far away. Or I just put her in my backpack wrapped up in towels and her pillows. Ghetto fab doll carrier ha ha

    14. Would it even be sound to pick a box that would fit the doll then a regular bag?

    15. *gasps* Oh...wow. I want one soo bad! That is awesome!

    16. my tallest are only about 20 cm so carriers arent a big problem for me...however, i do have a hard time finding something i really *like*, appearancewise and securitywise. i think i have my eyes on a custom made case tho. but i cant pay to have one made until later thos month. :O

i heard from another girl that she used those dolly blankets to wrap her dolls up, insted of carrying around a case / bag. but the thing is, she cud not take more than one doll out each time.

um, no kidding, but do u people really carry a SUITCASE with you???? towing it around like u r abt to get one the plane? and is it pretty heavy that way? i want soemthing like the gundam suitcase, except that i either want a plain white one or a cat one. but both r pretty heavy. :(

    17. I didn't think too long and made a carrier by myself.

    18. Where does everyone "take" thier dolls to? I can understand having some sort of protective storage for them, but by carrier cases it implies that the dolls go somewhere? I'm so confused!!!

Where would you take all of your dolls at once to? A photoshoot?

    19. Dolls get taken to doll meets - some of us have to travel an hour or more, often by mass transit. They get taken on trips, on vacations. If by plane, preferably as carry-on! Sometimes they get taken to a private "meet" at a friend's house, and you don't want to just haul them in your arms, especially with more than one.

There's also in case of fire, flood, gas leaks, CO2, bad weather, etc., that might involve having to leave one's home. But thankfully, mostly what's meant here is GOOD traveling with the dolls!

And yeah, sometimes you take them out for outdoor photoshoots, or to public places where you hope to be able to take a shoot.

    20. I have a tool bag from screwfix. It cost me about £30 and easily fits 3 sds wrapped in their pillows. I've also been known to fit 3 sds, 2 minis and 2 tinies in it ( a bit of a squeeze and I can't quite always do it up). It was a good buy for carrying my lot.
