Angel Region Little Fair Discussion part 1

Jan 11, 2005

    1. Someone at a meetup warned me about the screw in hooks popping out after a while. Sure enough, a few days after the meet one of Dee's hand screws popped off. It wasn't any big deal, it didn't break or anything and could be screwed back in easily, but for safety's sake I put some glue in there. The same thing happened to her other arm not long after so I did it to the feet as well just in case.

It is just the tension wearing on the grooves in the resin made by the screw, I assume. I got her second hand from someone who has had her for about a year I think. Just so it doesn't happen to you on an outing, I would suggest dabbing some glue in the holes.

    2. I think the screw thing only happens sometimes. I have two AR dolls and one on an AR body and only one of them has problems. Clover's food constantly pops off. I really need to get around to doing the glue thing... -_- But I've had absolutely 0 problems with the other two.

    3. I agree with the hook problem. XD

It's a shock when an arm randomly falls off.

But it's easy to solve. C:

Ringshadow, when you pull back the headcap - pull it back far enough and downwards, and see if you can get it to rest on the back of the head. That way, it just sits there, so you don't have to injure yourself holding it out. C:

      Like so:

So long as you don't have it there for a long period of time and are careful, it shouldn't damage the resin, and it saves you from sore thumbs. :'D

    4. The screw problem in the hands and feet does happen; I went ballistic when my Cien, Alex, came unstrung because I had twisted his foot around too much by mistake. As for the S-hook, I just tape the headcap on and leave the S-hook resting in the neck joint, and it's been fine.

I've had Alex for three years now ^o^ He's a beautiful doll and other than those two little problems (that can be dealt with easily, IMO), he is a beautiful and very wellmade doll. I don't know about the other molds, but I have never found his head way too big at all. But maybe because the only doll I have to compare him to is MSD Ken, and he's got a huge noggin himself ^^; I use only elasticized wigs, and have not had a problem with wigs at all.

Oh yeah, mentioning MSD reminds me of something that may be considered problematic: the very slim body of AR LF. I haven't had a problem fitting clothing on him, but I think I heard some MSD-size may be looser on AR LF than on MSD, because MSD are chubby compared to LF! Personally, I love the slimmer body better, but some might see this as being a problem. They are elegantly slender :p

    5. my ar girl could fit any 7/8 wig i bought. their heads might be slightly bigger than other companies, but wigs have some give, and the head size is slight. i wouldn't worry about wigs, just buy 7/8.

unless its a fur wig, that doesn't have any give.

    6. Msd sized clothing is no problem for me...ive been planning on making her clothing myself...for im in a countrey where there are about 30 dolls spread over 15 milion people, and no doll stores and shipping costs are around 20 doller....
And in the end im buying her because i want to use her as a model for clothing :D

I found her a beautifull old chinese juwlery closet today...
Makes a perfect drawer for her... its been in my familie since ever and it's like really old... i need to fix the doors tho...

    7. I just figure putting glue in the screw holes is an added precaution. Why wait and see if your doll is one of those problem children?

Anyways, for the headcap, I used the hook inside it for a while, but now I just put a tiny bit of sticky tack on the edge and stick it on the head, then the rubber band I use to give the wig traction goes around the seam and I have never had it fall off - even when she falls from a height.

I love her body style, posability, unique face, and resin color! Also, you'd think she'd look a bit odd next to a Mini Fee with her melon head and his pin head, but really they look perfect. (Although it is a bit strange that he has longer legs and she has a longer torso so when they sit down she is taller. XD)

The only wig I haven't had fit her was the one I just bought from Dollzone. It didn't give sizes other than Small, but it doesn't bother me since she isn't going to wear it anyways. Most of mine are 7/8 Aquire or 7/8 Monique. The Aquire fit Riku as well, but the Monique are far too big for him. x.x

Edit: I also never sueded or wired Dee until yesterday when I hot glue sueded her to try it out before doing it on Riku. Well... she can stand on her head now.

    8. I have a bluefairy girl, and they use the same body sculpt as AR. I have a separate piece of elastic looped through her leg/torso elastic to hold her headcap on, rather than having to attach it to the leg/torso elastic. I just used a spare small s-hook to attach a little scrap of elastic to the headcap. I also have a washer under the big s-hook in her head so it rests on that instead of her neck opening. Works great.

And... yeah, the hand thing. XD I've started referring to it as the Bluefairy Crotch Grab -- if I set my doll down without paying attention to where her arms are going, her hands usually end up looking like she's grabbing her crotch. It's not a PROBLEM, but it's a good thing to know so you take a look at the doll's hands before you start taking pictures.

And yeah, AR and BF dolls do have big heads, but I haven't had a problem with it so far. Nikola's default wig is a Leekeworld MSD wig, and it fits her fine. I've also tried a Bluefairy wig and a Volks MSD wig on her and they fit fine. I do have to yank the wigcap down over the back of her big ol' skull, but most nonfur wigs are quite stretchy and will accommodate their heads.

    9. lol on her head.
Yeah i guess i wont sued her unless she has a messed up body...
(and then i still would restrin her first)

Can you show me some pictures of her body?
I never really found good pictures of the ar lf girl body...
but knowing from the mesurements that her hips are wider then her shoulders was enough for me....and knowing her ribcage is loose from her tummy :D

    10. Ah yeah i looked into bf too, but i thought theyr eyes were to far apart.
      Dunno why....
I am now runing off to see the bf body's again because they have pictures of theyr bodys in there.
I may also buy ma ren a blossom body if her body starts to become bad in a few years.

    11. Warning: Doll Nudity Ahead. :0

    12. looks good, a little young but shes not out of female proportion like the doc's are...
(when i sa those body pictures i thought i was going into shock!)
Her head dosnt look oversized at all...
(i was afraid i was gonna dislike it...im an artist and im like a totall anatomy perfectionist D: so )

I like the fact she has almost no boobs. And a long torso...
can make her nice long cosets unto her hips and make her look stuborn :DD

I like how you made her onto a unichorn...
A artist i knew used to draw a character with a horn on his head...
he past away about 2 months ago from a alergic reaction to anastatics..

    13. It was a mod that her previous owner did, NightmareNurse. ^^ A very cute mod. But gah. D: That's not a good way to go.

I love the AR LF body - because although it does look very young, it also looks natural. It's not super-skinny or bizarre looking. It's plain, and cute.

Soyes - there's my AR LF Ami. ^^

    14. ooh yeah another question..
      How is theyr resin?
Is it strong... how do they survive falls from things?
Do theyr noses get damaged when they fall on it or do they hold pretty well.
And do theyr resin match other dolls (i know they match cp's pretty well)

    15. My first doll was an AR, and I love him to bits. He poses wonderfully and I love his face sculpt. I haven't had trouble fitttng wigs on him, though some take a little pulling to get over his noggin.

    16. I don't know about their nose or resin matching - but Maaya is a tough little cookie. XD

She has remained undamaged from me accidently whapping her head against the side of the desk, and my parent's dog knocking her off of the bed and onto the wooden floor.

    17. we have four little fairs, one on a bluefairy blossom body, and we love them! Out of all of them, I've only had the screw loose problem once, in Bellamy's hand. And in that case it was more like I had managed to unscrew it by twisting his hand around as opposed to it pulling out of the resin. I screwed it back in without a problem.

Bluefairy blossom bodies have slightly different knees, so they don't stand quite as well as the LF girl bodies and the current resin is not a match. (But we like Amandine to be curvy!)

The wrist ball on the LF is also really nice! I've been spoiled on it, because you can pose their hands all over the place. None of ours have ever needed sueding and they all stand great! If you don't like the /\ thing their lower legs do when they sit down, like someone else said, you can just move their thighs, it's more like a pose quirk. When their stringing relaxes a little it's less evident.

Headcap opening gets easier with practice, though I wish these guys had magnetic headcaps. I've been spoiled! the photo above is the best advice for getting the headcap open. ^__^ Not that I haven't pinched my fingers a few times.

They are very slender! so some MSD things will be big on them. It's not really a problem, and they can wear teen trends clothes and jeans, too. Some Mini's can't. (they might need a little streching, but once they've been worn once or twice they are fine.)

The only wig I've had a problem with not fitting was an AR one! I think it was a dud. As long as you've got an elastic cap, that shouldn't be a problem. We keep a little strip of sticky velcro on them, too, that helps. They DO have large heads, though! ...I think it's cute, and not noticeable really.

Their resin is lovely and sturdy, the only thing we've had is some chipping on the top of the foot ball, but that doesn't even show when they're strung. We've whacked them around a few times and carted them all over creation, and not a scratch.

      AR does nice faceups, too!

All in all I think you'll be pleased. I've handled several types of minis and these guys are my favorites.

    18. Ah it looks like ar is indeed the best choice for a first doll especially if your in a countrey with like..no doll owners to help you with problems.

I really like ren, ami looks to inocent to be my doll i guess XD
Im gonna order her tomarw with a pare of dark eyes...
(i dunno how the brown AR glass eyes look! Anyone have pictures...because now i have the grey's in my order list. )
A long brown wig (i rarely see those on ren's but i love them on her <3)

My father got totally excited when he heared about my new hobby and he is gonna buy me a carrier because he thinks i really need one because i need her on school a lot.
He also offerd me to pay for the extra hands....
And all in one that makes for a over 500 dollar order...and then i get a cien head and 2 wigs as presents 0_o so well...lets say ive a complete set,

I also found some xmasss decortion wings that are a perfect msd size...tip for everyone... they had grey black and white...i bought black and white. <3

I must say im already kinda opsessed...i in total sewed her 3 skirts a shirt 6 bags (leather...takes days to get trough that with a normal needle...and about 300 needles T_T)
A kimono like vest thing... 5 scarfs....and i found her uber nice furniture...
I already love this hobby :D

    19. Sounds like you're wonderfully prepared, Naiara. :'D

    20. Dee is pretty durable. The only problem I had with her durablity was a few weeks ago at Build-a-Bear she was sitting on the counter and fell four feet down on her back, breaking off one of her pinkie fingers. It wasn't a shatter, though, just a clean break. That is pretty darn tough, especially considering how many times she's fallen. XD I glued it back on and you can't tell it is broken unless you really try to look.
