Angel Region Little Fair Discussion part 1

Jan 11, 2005

    1. This is my first Angel Region doll, a Little Fair Ami boy, but I have noticed something about his one leg that has me a bit puzzled. It seems to kick off to the side a bit when he sits down. No matter how I move him, it still kicks off to the one side. It isn't a stringing issue as the stringing is absolutely perfect, but I am wondering if it is a mold problem or if this is normal. As this is my first AR doll I am completely in the dark here. I am hoping that this is not the "normal" thing for this doll... if it is, I don't think I will keep him....

Since my pictures are rather large, I have linked to them instead of posting them directly here. First picture is a full body shot and the other is of the legs in particular.

    2. Its just an AR thing, as both my boy and girl do the same thing. Nothing to be worried about ^^

    3. Yes, Raziel does the EXACT same thing. I thought he was just weirdly strung... Glad it's normal for AR dolls. (Means that I don't have to try and restring him)

    4. OH My Ryuuga does the same thing!
But I'm sure he needs restringing since his legs and arms are a bit... loose.

    5. You should be able to fix it actually, I've been able to get my ren boy, and ami girl to sit perfectly normal. Its just a matter of fiddling with their legs.

    6. Oh? What exactly did you do? I fiddled with the placement of the leg quite a bit but to no avail as it just snaps right back into that position.

    7. Once their stringing is relaxed a little you can pivot the thigh towards the outside, which helps. Also moving their feet to hang down naturally will make it less knock-kneed. Their bodies are quite poseable but are usually quite stiff at first so they will probably need some stretching.

I can make Diderot do things usually limited to SDCs, and while their legs still fall in a slight inward position when they are just plunked down, it's easy to adjust and is less severe as their stringing has relaxed.

    8. My Jade does the same thing, but I tend to make them sit with their ankles crossed. If they're strung a little loosely and in shoes, it's very easy to make them sit this way. Pointing the toes down and gently moving the legs closer together also helps fix this problem - push the knees towards each other and then nudge the feet towards each other and down. In relatively loose pants, however, the outwards angle is barely noticeable.

Completely asside from that, guys have a tendancy to sit with their legs wide appart anyway - you could spread the legs appart more, at which point the outward kink becomes, again, unnoticeable.

Edit: That last sentence became uninteligable quickly O_o

    9. Well I am planning to restring both of my dolls tomorrow, so he will definitely be on the list for a restring.

    10. Try sueding the knee joints. Both of my AR LF girls sat this way - I finally got one of them sueded, and now she sits without kicking out to the side.

    11. Ah! I was about to ask this same question! I noticed that both my Jade and Mano do that too, and it REALLY bugs me. Not enough to sell them, as I love them too much already, but that kicking to the side thing is really quite annoying. xD

So sueding is an option? Hm, might have to look into it if it really starts to get on my nerves. Glad I'm not the only one though.

    12. I am going to be sueding Rinia tomorrow as well so lets hope that it helps. I will post pictures of the results if anybody is interested.

    13. I actually think the problem is with how the leg is molded. My P-Ren does that too (*looks over* He's doing it now, as a matter of fact.), and it drove me crazy for a while after I noticed it. But while I was checking him out, trying to seee if I could fix it, I noticed that the ball at the top of the thigh is larger than the space it has to fit in when he's sitting down... if that really makes any sense. I think it could be modded so that he's not sitting on it the same way, but it's really almost too much of a hassle to fix. -_- He's a gorgeous doll, though, so I just gave up and now I see it as something cute he does. ^^ I'm glad you gave yours a second chance--I think you'll find that they're absolutely wonderful dolls. ^________^

    14. I just finished sueding my boy and suprisingly it did the trick. I will take some pictures tonight after I do his faceup and post them for everybody to see. Mind you, I am a horribly faceup artist so don't expect much.

    15. I was amazed by how easily I can rotate his thigh joint to sit properly now and not have the wonky leg. Now naturally it shifts to that position, but I can now move it out of that position and it will stay as opposed to it snapping right back.

And thank you for the compliments on the faceup. I have a thing for doing the faceups on my dolls on my own as opposed to having makeup done by the companies because I like the bonding experience. Though I have to admit that painting him and my little Cutie Delf head was MUCH easier than it was to paint Mika's face since her features are so tiny by comparison. That Hisui sculpt is REALLY difficult to get right. I am seriously thinking about sending her off to be done, but I don't know if I will have the heart to do so.

      Thank you again.

    16. As well as sueding, you might want to try wiring his legs, too, and see if you like that. It's really easy to do and you don't even have to unstring him, if you don't want to.

    17. You know, I don't really have a need to wire him. Other than the wonky leg that is now fixed, he poses like a dream. I am soon going to have to find a way to wire to the torso of my Volks girl though. She is strung as tightly as I can get her, yet her torso is still floppy like... so I am off to the hardware store over the weekend to get some 12 gauge wire to do her whole body.

    18. Hey, I've finally given in and am planning on getting my first BJD, either a female or a male Angelregion Dana. So, to help with my decisions, I need some answers.

Are the heads the same? Some pictures make them look the same.

Male Dana's mouth seems to be open slightly in some pictures, how about the female Dana's mouth? Or is the open mouth a customization or special edition?

I'm planning on eventually customizing the makeup, so how easy is it to remove?

How about the casting? I figure that I will have to do some sanding, but how's the resin? Also, I'm not planning on dropping the doll, but how strong and/or durable are they?

How about removing the headcap? There was a thread somewhere back in the archive that gave me some hints about making easy, but is it hard to get off the first time?

Any other things to note either about the Dana dolls or Angelregion dolls in general? Any problems? Anything special?

I'm really looking forward to this, and I will appreciate any information.

    19. I jsut got my first Angel Region doll and I absolutely love him. When I first got him I wasn't so sure because of the wonky leg problem, but sueding him fixed that.

Yes the heads are the same for male and female. The resin I have to say isn't nearly as shiny as my Volks girl is, so that is a plus in my book. As for strength, Rinia has already taken a couple of dives thanks to my daughter and he is still rather strong.

I don't think that removing the makeup would be hard, but I can't say cause I got a basic kit with no makeup.

The headcap takes a good bit of brute strength and a good grip to get off to be honest. I have also pinched my fingers a couple of times putting it back on, so be careful.

The only thing that I didn't like was the wonky way that the one leg would sit when I first got him. However some people think that it is cute and even like it. I was able to fix it with a bit of sueding though so it isn't a big deal.

Here are some reference pictures of the before and after of the sueding.

      Before
      After

Also, I have to say that my boy is FAR more poseable than my Volks girl and she is strung to the max. He doesn't flop at all like she does and he just seems to overall have a better body for posing.

    20. I have a Dana boy, so I'll answer what I can!

Male and female Dana have the same headmold. Only the makeup is different. The mouth is slightly open when viewed from underneath, but most of the time it looks closed. I haven't tried removing his makeup.
The resin is a nice color and weight. I separated my boy's fingers with nothing but an x-acto knife, and they look great. His seams aren't bad, so I haven't tried sanding. I've also (eep!) dropped him plenty of times, and he's totally ok. ^^ Yes, taking off the headcap is a pain, but it's possible.

Overall, I really like his mechanics. I plop him down on the table and he stands. I drop him on my knee and he sits comfortably. It doesn't take much fiddling to get him to do what I want.
