Angell Studio KiD 1/4 Discussion Part 1

Jun 20, 2007

    1. Thank you!
My Leira stands very well too, I actually have more trouble getting my big guys to stand. But that might also be because they are SD's and somewhat top-heavy. I'm curious to compare the body I have Leira on with the double jointed 1/4 one. My friend has a Que on the senior body, I might ask her if I can play with her girl sometime. Her head was a gift from me and I invented her character, so I consider her at least partially mine ;)
Was anyone else asked about heels legs by AS, by the way? I got an e-mail from Lemon recently, saying they where trying to find out if people would be interested in heel legs for AS girls. I wrote back that I certainly would be, for both 1/3 and 1/4 size. I hope I'm not the only one so they'll actually make those legs! :D

    2. I have 7 MSD girls from 4 different companies, but with one company I have both a single and jointed version of, so I have 5 different MSD girl bodies. I find that over all dolls tend to mainly be different and have their pro's and con's. My worse posing girl is my RS Iruhi on a double jointed body, mainly I don't like her leg joints and it makes her less stable to stand, also she has a bad hip joint which makes sitting tricky also. She will tip forwards on her leg joints if she is strung to loosely too. Although she has better arm movement then my RS single jointed girls.

I do like where they place the torso joint on the RS single jointed bodies and I like how AS also place the joint in there, although I find it is better on the RS girls because it locks into place, where as I have noticed that on the AS body it slides about a bit more. That is the only real flaw I can see with the AS body though. The arm movements tend to be nice, not as nice as MNF or my WD girl bodies because you can lock their arms more and get some better movement. Like on the picture my Dina is holding the mask, I needed the extra hand to hold her in place, which on my MNF or WD I wouldn't need to do that. However her arms are better then my all RS girls.

The dolls that stand the most solid are my WD and AS girl, MNFs have a problem with weak ankles so sometimes they can slip forwards from the ankles. Pose wise my AS dolls seems some where in the middle, but I am happy with it as a whole. I do like to play with her, and hopefully the longer I have her the more I will figure her out. I tend to need to do that with new dolls.

EDIT: I got that E-mail too and said I was interested but it bounced back!

    3. The e-mail bounced back with me too, I had to forward it to the address they mention in the request instead of simply replying.

I agree about them being somewhere in the middle pose-wise :) My Minifee has better arm movement, not to mention all the hand-options, but yup, she has the weak ankles too. I really need to suede her legs one of these days. My Dika is a very sturdy poser when sitting down, but I can't get her to do as much standing up as my others. I think my Luts is roughly the same as the AS, but he's a boy so that might make a difference. I only have RS tinies, but they need to be restrung and sueded to within an inch of their resin lifes to be able to hold any pose, lol.

    4. I did have to restring my RS dolls and hot glue suede them to make them pose well. However once I did that they where much better, also with them RS string them with string that is too thin that really doesn't help. I didn't have to glue suede my AS girl because she came with those silicon circles which I use instead. The only differences was the ones in her hands seemed a bit big and I couldn't hide them, so I put them in her ankles.

I do admit I love the MNF hand options because it means you can be really expressive with them, because most people use body language for emotion too, which is worth baring in mind when posing dolls to help. Although I see it as a nice bonus then a must because most of the time I keep one pair of hands (same with my WD girl) but I do use them every so often.

    5. I have the silicon discs in my girl too, but I do get annoyed with them when they poke out, lol. On my big ones I've replaced them with hot glue because on them the discs were even bigger and very noticable. It's a very easy way of getting the dolls to pose better though, especially when they come already installed. And yes, I replaced the elastic on my RS dolls too, it's much too thin. AS does a better job, but they are in a different price range of course.

I ordered a new camera today, so exciting! It's coming tomorrow or the day after, so hopefully before long I'll be able to take a few new snaps of my sweet girl!

    6. AS looks like they string their dolls in 3mm but I prefer 4mm as a whole so at some point I will re-string her with thicker string. The disc's are helpful, it did take me a little while to figure out how best to place them in the joint so they didn't poke out. I do admit I would probably hot glue suede if it wasn't for the discs, but the discs seem to be doing the same job sueding would do any way.

Just with RS it is way too thin, they are getting better though. To be fair I re-string a lot of dolls I get, I don't with MNFs although with them they have very small s-hooks in their heads so the thickest I can get in them is 3mm. RS dolls are pretty nice though, I will soon have more dolls from them then any other company. I can image if I saw another AS doll I like I would be tempted though, because I am liking the one I have a lot.

    7. On the subject of posing me and my friend got bored on Tuesday so posed my doll to do all kinds of crazy things. One of them being Gangnam Style:

I am quite impressed since I don't think I would be able to get another one of my dolls to do this.

    8. Lol, so funny!!

I took a new pic of Leira today. My laptop made the color go funny, so I edited it. Hope I won't need a new laptop... I'm over the moon with the camera though, yay!

    9. Thanks so much, I am happy you think so. Your girl is so pretty I think she has really nice lips. :)

    10. So do I, it's what I fell for originally :)

    11. I can see why you did, I do tend to like it when something really stands out on a doll feature wise. Although I do admit I tend to really like lips. What sculpt is she?

    12. She's the Leira sculpt. Back then I was boring and kept their sculpt names ;)

    13. I know very little about AS dolls to be fair, I normally learn the most about them from the discussion boards but this is much quieter then the rest. But if the name works the name works, there is nothing wrong with that. :)

    14. Very quiet indeed, quite unlike some other threads i've been in. And yup, I really liked the name. Although since then I never kept another sculpt name, even though I like them sometimes.

    15. It is no one else's business what you name your doll really since it is yours, if you feel that works then go for it. :)

It is a shame that it is so quiet because I do like to know what the companies and the dolls are like and be aware of any potential problems with the dolls etc. Especially Mint is the tanned skin and I am actually worried about greening.

    16. I understand about the greening. I have no experience with AS tan resin, but maybe in the 1/3 or 1/6 threads?

    17. I also worry about the fact she is French resin too, which I know in a lot of cases can go quicker then urethane. I figured they would be just as quite really and since I don't have a doll, or am planning a doll of that size I am not sure joining them would be worth it. I have come to the conclusion that I only like Slim MSD girls myself. I like looking at other dolls, but my bias is heavy in that direction.

    18. I see. Yes, they are just as quiet as this one. French resin does yellow quicker, my Leira is a lot yellower than my MNF of roughly the same age. Then again, she's Ws and the MNF is NS. But my two dolls from a year ago are both in the solid resin and they haven't yellowed at all. But I haven't seen that many tan dolls from AS, so I have no idea on that. I'm quite partial to slim MSD's myself, by the way :)

    19. I see, all dolls would have yellowed a little since the air makes them do it. If the don't have much noticeable yellowing then that is pretty awesome. My NS RS dolls look pretty good they don't look like they have yellowed and I have had them for a while now. I got my 2nd doll in NS skin and she is only about 3-4 months older then Drisimi, just I had to wait till Christmas before I could have her. The other one was a year after and when I compared them they looked just like they where different resin batches and that is it.

My WS MNFs I could tell a little more and they where year apart as well because both of them were Birthday gifts and the oldest one is a little creamer then the newer one.

I haven't seen another tan skin resin AS doll either. I do admit I would like to see one that was older then mine so I could see what it would look like. Especially she was going to be a dryad because I thought her skin was going to be a lot darker then it is and in D&D Dryads have very tanned skin because for most part they are autumn colours. As a Dryad her being a little green is not too much of a big deal since she would have been a tree. However since you can barely tell she is tanned, I am thinking that she is probably just going to be a elf.

Grey (and my RS purple) resins bother me less because they seem to go darker with time, and since I have them as Drow that really works. However she is my first tan skin and my first French resin doll, so there are more concerns then normal about the subject. In person I am happy that there doesn't seem too much of a difference look wise, but I did go for the solid resin in hope that it would look that way.

    20. New wig for Becca. I think that this color make her older and wiser a bit))
