Angell Studio KiD 1/4 Discussion Part 1

Jun 20, 2007

    1. i've done some comparisons when i first got the pinky white Gus... though note that it wasn't taken under really good lighting and even now his head looks a shade more mellow than the DoC body but under natural lighting it's not noticeable... it's only when you stare REAL hard at it...
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=166278

besides, try checking out some of my gallery thread to see comparison (though again one of it used a more yellow/orange bed-lamp)... :sweat nothing a lil blushing can't fix... ;) i've heard that AOD normal matches quite well...

    2. Oh wow, just wanted to post here since I saw very little talked about with Gus' body. I absolutely love the way it's sculpted. <33 The only thing that bothers me is his thigh likes to weirdly pop out, not out of the actual joint, but in a...strange way. xD I know that's not very helpful, but it's not something that really happens all too often and I only noticed it because he was fighting me to put on his pants. x3

Otherwise, I adore the way he sits :D SOO much better than my DOC boys, so that's definately a plus. <3 I haven't given him much standing practice yet either, but from what little I did do he's a pretty dang sturdy little thing <3

    3. I am doing a faceup on someone's Vera and she sent the entire doll. The poor dear fell apart in shipping. x.x I have been trying to figure out how her leg elastic is done, but I can't for the life of me figure it out. o.o I was wondering if anybody here can help me out... My situation is:

There is one leg that came completely off. The elastic is through the leg so the two ends up just barely peeking through the top of the leg joint. The other leg is attached to a knot at the top of the lower torso by one side of the elastic, and the other side is lose. There is also an inch long piece of elastic in tied to this main knot that doesn't seem to be attached to anything. o.O And then I don't see how I can possibly stretch the elastic enough to reach the S-hook for the head.

So... uh... how is the AS msd strung? DX This will be a learning experience, though... I fell in love with her as soon as I opened the box. *must get one now*

    4. Ah, actually, I'm having the same problem as Kyrie Arashi O.o I noticed right out of the blue suddenly Prince's right leg is on the verge of falling off. I'm still very nervous about re-stringing, and these little guys are apparently put together a bit different. xD Would love any input on how to sturdy him up a bit O.o

    5. About a month after I got my girl, the elastic in both legs frayed and snapped within the same day, so I had to restring her. It's really not that bad, but I suggest when it happens to carefully see how they are put together for reference. the arms are strung separately from the rest, so I just left that, but I'll probably have to replace that soon...
Anyway, my doll was strung basically with just a loop of elastic. I'd take out the old elastic and measure it for the new stuff, then knot it. Fold the loop over the s hook in the head, preferably so that the knot is near the top, and that the two halves are equal. Then, guide the two halves through the thighs, legs, and hook them to the feet (and be sure you don't have the lefts and rights mixed up!) I hope this helps, it's kind of vague...:sweat

What the company says is kind of confusing, though i agree that it's best to start from the foot:
When you want to take apart the doll, it is best to start from the foot. When you undraw the sole and take off the hook ring, the leg can be disconnected. There is another string in the hands. So through the same way, you can take apart the hands of the doll thus the whole doll can be disconnected.
      Way to string:
Lacing the wire of the doll is very important because it helps the doll to stand steadily and straightly.
Lacing the wire of the doll with an authorized BJD wire, the joints of the doll will be fixed. The harder you drag, the firmer it is. See the picture of operation, Click here.

    6. So I read somewhere that Volks Pureskin matches the Angel Studio 'Butter' color-but would any of the Angell Studio resins match the newer Fairyland Minifee? I'm looking for a body for both my floating Volks head and my spare MNF head, and really love that body-but I think the slim shape would work better for my MNF boy.

I've done a lot of searches for this, but I haven't found a definite yes or no, or pictures. @_@

      Thanks in advance!

    7. I did a faceup on an AS Vera a while back and, seeing her next to my variously aged CP dolls I can say that the fleshy tone (I have to assume it was pinky white, but I'd have to check with the owner... it was much pinker and less yellow than my YoSD) was slightly lighter than my CP dolls.

I think the main problem you would have is that AS dolls are, to the best of my knowledge, all French resin. I think they stopped making urethene, so even if the tone matches, the French resin probably wouldn't. x.x

...wow, I hope that was worth something to you. XD

    8. From what I've read, you can request urethane (probably butchered that). It's recommended to do for matching with a pureskin head.

And for 'pinky white' do you mean that you think it was the Jacinthe, or Pinky?

      http://new.angell-studio.com/en/product.php?action=16
Link to the body, and the tones are under "pic of detail options."

    9. Hmm... I would say it is Milk Pinky. This is her:
The close up of the lips probably best shows her color. It isn't yellow like I would call butter, but it isn't white.

I'm interested to see this if you do end up going with AS. I actually loved the body sculpt the most out of the slim minis.

    10. I may actually take a chance and order the Jacinthe body. Comparing my heads, the difference in tones looks about right-and I could possibly blush the body if it doesn't match.

I may post a message to them asking which Luts resin it matches.

    11. Does anyone else who has an Angell Studio Vera find it really hard to find shoes for her?

Every pair of shoes I've ever bought from the Marketplace have been HUGE on her. So either they've sent her with too small feet  or they just have naturally small feet. They look in proportion to her body, so I don't think it's the former. She stands fine, and looks fine, but when I buy MSD sized shoes for her, they flop around like clown shoes :(

Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone recommend either a seller here on DoA or a doll company/website that do shoes that would fit? I've been meaning to make this thread for months, but haven't had time :sweat But my Paigey needs shooz, her feet are gonna get cold :sweat

      Thanks in advance!!! ^____^

    12. I have a AS body and Dollmore shoes are okay, but slightly big. Same with Dollzone. I think the best fit shoes would be Unoa/MNF/Narae size, since AS are considered slim minis.

    13. Has anyone had any experience with other branded clothing on them, like Dollmore or anything?

    14. Hi ^^ I think Dollmore clothing would be too big. I haven't tried it on my Gus yet, but I have tried it on my DoC kids and it's quite baggy on them. Seeing as how DoC's ar e abit thicker than Angell-Studio's, I'm just not sure it would work xP I haven't had much experience with other company's clothing, so, sorry I can't be much of a help. I do think Volk's clothing would also be too big for them, but you might want to try Dollzone clothing since that fits really nice on the MNF I have with me now, and MNF's and Angell-Studio's have a similar body structure. :)

    15. Awww I figured that Dollmore's clothes would be too big... That sucks, because they have SO many cute dresses!
Ohhh you have a BOY Gus in milk? I'm getting a girl in milk! :D
Have you posted any pictures yeeet?!

    16. Hm, my Gus is on a DoC body and he has a Dollmore shirt which fits pretty well. I think that if you pick a clothing which is more tight fitting, it'll work better on the minis, at least not too baggy... XD Good luck! Dollheart clothes should fit well!

    17. I know this thread has been dead for a while, but...hey, it's worth a try:

Maybe I just skipped this, but I wanted to ask if when you guys say "normal" skintone that you mean "butter" skintone? I'm contemplating getting a Gus, but I'm not sure whether or not I want "milk" or "butter." (That makes me think of food--I want to eat him! ^^) I love the glow of AS's resin...it's so pretty.

    18. Just got a Leira in milk and I'm thinking that she's very pale. Not unnaturally so, but kind of like she needs to take some iron pills or eat more meat. It's especially pronounced when she wears her long white wig. Next time I'm thinking milkypink. Butter seems too brown.

I know it's not what you asked, but hope this helps.

    19. A quick question: will I need to restring my Gus immediately when he arrives? From previous comments in this thread AS seem to ship them pretty loose/with bad elastic (??)

    20. My Gus (girl, in my avatar pic) seems to be really well strung, she poses well and stands on her own. Maybe I was just lucky:lol: Perhaps I should add, I have the senior body with the double joints.
I love the look of the milk pinky resin, so soft and glowy looking! I'd love to get another Angell Studio.
