Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Anyone else end up with an insane excess of supplies? (eyes, wigs, eyelashes, etc.)

Oct 28, 2013

    1. I have a friend like this, who has a huge box full of wigs and jars full of eyes... I don't know how that even happens. Only ONE of my dolls even has two wigs, and there are never any unclaimed supplies hanging around. I don't have enough funds to just get wigs and eyes that are cool, I only have enough to get what will work for the character, so I gotta make sure I know what I want before I get anything. There are two pairs of eyes that aren't in heads at the moment, but that's only because the heads aren't here yet, but once they are, the eyes will go right in! I also have a few wigs that nobody wears just 'cause I haven't gotten around to getting rid of them yet. Although, there is one wig that seems to have a personality of its own! I call it the Diva!wig. It looks good on almost any doll it fits on, but it instantly replaces their character with a diva, so it doesn't get worn by anybody anymore. It's a deep natural red-orange, with big waves and lush bangs. I could never sell it, even though nobody wears it! Maybe someone will, someday... But yeah, I don't understand why people get things that their dolls don't use? Or why does the doll need multiple pairs of eyes? Like yeah they can change their hair but unless the character has a billion pairs of contacts, or the owner just hasn't found the perfect eyes yet, why would their eyes change? I dunno. Maybe it's just me. I try not to buy eyes unless they're EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Once, a doll of mine didn't have eyes for three months because I hadn't found any in the right size (16mm) and color (olive green) and material (glass) yet. Then of course, after I finally found them, I ended up giving those eyes to another doll on a whim (Character was supposed to have brown eyes but I was selling the doll with the green eyes and they were such gorgeous eyes I couldn't bear to see them go, so I switched 'em. Now the previously-brown-eyed girl looks even better!)

    2. For the amount of dolls in our household, considering that we had specific looks planned for each doll, my girlfriend and I seem to have a large amount of extra wigs and eyes. For the wigs, we both had issues with our first dolls, not knowing exactly what size would fit which head (we stupidly assumed that all SDs had 8~9in head sizes) along with ordering one of Leekeworld's Christmas Gift boxes and only receiving wigs in it. The eyes have been a case of trial and errors with trying to find the most perfect shades for each doll and not using the ones that they came with. I guess it's a nice little stock up for doing trades eventually, at least.

    3. Oh I wish I had money for extra eyes, wigs or anything else. I don't buy clothes everything they have is hand made. I have 5 dolls (one is in pieces and is not likely to be put back together. I still feel like a newbie and keep her around for problem solving :(. Her pair of eyes and her wig are too small or big for the others. ) The other four have two wigs (2 don't wear wigs :D), 3 with default eyes and one default pair extra. The only thing I bought are 2 pairs of shoes but started making my own now.
I wish i had more wigs and some nice eyes. I will not buy a new doll til the others have nice eyes (will take month).
My incoming girl has nothing yet. :(

    4. I actually ended up with waaay too many clothes for my lone girl doll, hah. Clearly the solution is to buy another girl to display all the pretty outfits.

When I was searching for eyes, I went through all sorts, too. Really high end glass, custom urethanes, silicon, etc. so at one point I had a ton of eyes laying around. Though once I found the perfect ones, I sold the others.

    5. Yeah....despite only being in the hobby for a year, I've got tons of eyes, wigs, clothes and eyelashes. Due to shipping expenses and the fact that I didn't discover local vendors that did GOs until a lot later, I had to carry the expense myself so I tend to chuck a lot of stuff into the shopping cart.

Eyes. I find eyes tend to multiply coz it's hard getting just one pair.

    6. I wish I had more eyes and wigs... I can never find the ones I need when I'm looking for them!

My fabric stash, though... yikes. Got to do more sewing before it gets out of control!

    7. on my quest for the perfect wig i ended up with about 30, and i have a container full of random eyes that were gifts from dolls.

    8. Wigs. Chaeri has recently decided she will only wear fur wigs, and while she looks adorable in them, that leaves me with 20+ fiber wigs I no longer have any use for (unless I get another doll that wears 5/6, which is not likely at this point).

    9. In my struggle to dress my Doll Leaves 20cm in fitting clothes I've acquired more than 30 ill-fitting yo-SD outfits...

    10. I make my own stuff so I always have too many shorts on hand. someone should trade with me.

    11. I have only 2 extra pair of glass eyes (for me all extras = I won't use them and they need to go) but I have a small pile of acrylics that came with dolls I bought. I have 4 extra wigs.. not a lot, but it bothers me to have them packed away not being used. I think I have only 1 unused outfit - from a doll I sold 4 years ago. :(

What I do have tons of is face-up supplies. I did my very last face last year. BUT I was prepared for many more. I have paints, pastels, and more pastels, shimmery pastels, eyelashes, cleaners, sandpaper, carving/sculpting and sanding tools, one barely used new-at-the-time eye beveller, and a couple cans of MSC. I have a couple bodies to blush but, as you can see, I have waaaayy more than I need for that. I should take up a new art interest.

    12. When I first got into the hobby back in 2006/2007 I got some stuff for my dolls (a limited clothing set from Souldoll, went nuts at Dollmore etc.) which I still have despite the fact that the dolls themselves (4 in total) have been "retired" (i.e. I've become horribly nostalgic and keep them all in one specific wig and outfit and let them hang out together like that) and so don't really use most (any) of the left-over stuff. And I do have quite a bit. Lots of shirts, pants, skirts and so on that doesn't quite fit my current crew and yet I really don't want to sell it either. Still, I'm probably going to shift through it one of these days and see if I can't sell some of it just to make room since this isn't stuff I have any plans of using for anyone (my taste in dolls was different and most of the stuff I have work better for non-mature minis and I only have mature minis these days). I also have a few wigs (that I got recently) that I originally got for one doll but the colour doesn't work for her anymore and I don't think any of my other dolls would suit them either (nor do I have any plans to get dolls with said colours either) so I might sell them too if I can get around to it.

So yeah, I've gathered up some stuff throughout the years and I need to do some spring cleaning. Luckily most of this stuff is in good condition and when I got it, years back, it was for specific dolls. I just don't have/play with said dolls anymore.

    13. I have quite a few extra wigs, eyes, clothes. Most of this comes from purchasing lots and seller extra’s that get thrown in. I think you have a higher chance of accumulating extra miscellaneous items the more dolls you have. The eyes and wigs are the worst for me, always end up with some that did not quite fit, or do not match my vision of the intended doll. Perfect example I purchased 4-5 red wigs for my first doll before I found the perfect one. I also have this thing about paying shipping for just 1 item, and will normally purchase something else just to make the shipping worth it in my mind. Granted some of these get used as I purchase more dolls, but I always have some excess sitting around.

    14. I have a terrible excess of eyes and wigs.

I find eyes are terrible- i am very picky and usually when the eyes arrive they look nothing like on the website. Though saving them has proven to be a good thing. As I acquire more floating heads, I have an easy supply of eyes XD

    15. Clothes.

My MSD boys have an excessive amount of clothes that I still have many items like new and unopened. And I don't change them very often because I'm at college but even my mom said that the amount of clothes for them is ridiculous compared to what we have =D I just loved to buy what I saw right for them and I never controlled myself so I ended up with tons and tons of clothes.

    16. I am obsessed with props, eyes, wigs, shoes.. everything!! So it continues to grow!! LOLL

    17. I have tons of extra eyes and a few wigs. It's actually come in handy, since I've gotten more than a few unplanned dolls over the years. Once a new doll comes in, I try all the spare stuff on them to see what I like. It's one of the first character-building exercises I do with a BJD.

    18. I don't have a lot of wigs and eyes yet, but that's only because I haven't been collecting dolls for long. I find myself browsing websites for eyes and wigs multiple times every day, even though I don't even have the doll that could fit them yet! I like being able to change their look whenever I want and combine different things together, so I'm sure I'll end of with many many wigs and eyes.

    19. I wish I did, 'cause I could really use them right about now. But unfortunately I've always been very careful with purchases and as a result I'm now in serious need of some wigs. And shoes. And outfits.

Doesn't help that the two 'left overs' I do have are in the wrong size.

    20. Heck yes! I'm overrun with extras. I bought most of it thinking I'd like to change around my dolls' eyes, wigs & clothes but as it turned out most ended up eventually turning out pretty much perfectly & now I seldom redress or rewig them. Add to that my obsession with doll purses, hats & accessories & I have literally trunks & drawers of stuff.

I am slowly selling off some clothes, wigs & eyes at local meet-ups but it just seems too much work to photograph & post everything though I suppose just for peace of mind & to recover some storage space I'm going to have to eventually do it. I'll still hang on to most of my wigs & a few outfits but most has to go. And now I'm interested in MSDs so I'm acquiring wigs & eyes for them. I swore no new clothes as they can wear a couple of OT dolls' stuff & I plan to get in gear & start sewing once again.

These dolls just demand to be spoiled!
