Anyone else end up with an insane excess of supplies? (eyes, wigs, eyelashes, etc.)

Oct 28, 2013

    1. I wish I had an insane stash of supplies just laying around! I only have four or five pairs of extra eyes (that I don't want anymore, don't fit the character I had in mind), and three extra wigs. I can see myself ending up with a lot of extra eyes in the future though, since I like to play with eye color and swap them out once and awhile.

    2. YES!
      I had, like, 30, 40 wigs?! One day I just took a few pictures of all of them and listed them all for sale at $26 or something a piece and that cleared out a lot, but there's still so many! I have a ton of eyes too that I feel like aren't even worth trying to sell!

      Nice to know I'm not the only one...

    3. I change looks and characters very often and always seem to acquire things I'll have no use for later. It gets pretty frustrating too because it'll take an extra long time to get rid of them (and I'm not one for throwing things away. AT ALL. )

    4. I'm a collector for collecting's sake, so I have waaaay too much stuff. If I see something I really like and I have the money for it, I go for it, so I have like 24 extra pairs of eyes (c'mon, who doesn't love eyes?), lots of little outfits I plan to use, shoes, and about four wigs that don't have an immediate purpose. I like being able to take out all of the stuff and feel accomplished with my little horde <33 It's kind of the way I work with all of my hobbies ^^;;

    5. I have 2 dolls and one on the way. I have perhaps 10 pair of eyes with more on the way, a mess of mohair and three bags of wefts for wigs, 5 wigs with 5 more on the way. I should probably stop shopping, but Leekeworld keeps releasing their limited colors....

    6. When I'm not sure of a character's eyes or hair or something, I'll get a grab bag of eyes from AC and a whole bunch of different wigs from leeke and experiment when they get here so I have a lot of extra eyes and wigs lying around, along with a lot of really basic clothes for when dolly first arrives. (I tend to get outfits later for dolly that will be their 'standard' clothes)

      The only thing I don't have in massive supply at home is shoes. I never seem to have any shoes on hand when dolly gets in. Mostly because I hate shoe shopping either human sized or dolly sized and even then I'm really picky about what shoes I buy.

    7. I'm so guilty of this too. I'm always afraid that if I sell something, I won't be able to find it again if I ever change my mind. So I wait until I'm absolutely positively sure that even if I did have a doll it would fit, I wouldn't use it anyway. Even then, I still struggle with letting go. I have four pairs of acrylic eyes from when I first got into the hobby that I doubt any doll will ever use, but I haven't sold them because the company that made them is long gone.

      I also have the very first outfit I bought while I was waiting for my first doll to arrive - a punk tank top and pants from Dollmore. I consider the outfit cursed because while the shirt fits, every single SD I've owned has been too hippy for the pants. But the outfit is long sold out and if I ever do get a slimmer doll, I want to have it. I've also got a lot of outfits that are ill fitting in some way, and I tell myself I'm going to alter them, but I never seem to get around to it.

      I'm also obsessed with keeping everything that comes with a fullset. So if a fullset doll came with eyes I don't care for, I still keep them because they're part of the set, and I want to have them if I ever decide to sell the doll in the future. I think the extra storage is well worth it to help the doll retain its value.

      And I think we all experience the problem where we want something very specific for a doll, and have to keep buying potential candidates until the perfect one finally arrives, leaving us with a pile of not quite right extras to get rid of.

      I explained this with my first doll by having her be a shapeshifting assassin. I never really developed her character beyond that, and came to realize that having characters set in stone is not always what I want. What I love about my dolls is that they are a blank canvas. So today my Limhwa Half Elf is wearing long lavender rose hair, purple eyes, and a sweet lolita dress. Maybe tomorrow she will have spiky black hair and red eyes to go with a punk rock outfit. I like being able to change her appearance without having to come up with some logical reason that suits her story. It took me a while, but I finally learned we don't all play with our dolls the same way, and that's it's ok not to have a set character who always looks the same.

    8. yeah kind of, i have probably 10 pairs of eyes, 20 outfits, 5 or 6 pairs of shoes, dozens of socks and stockings, maybe 12 wigs.

      my 2 DD dolls are stored naked so that includes their clothes, i like to mix and match sometimes to, if i knew people around with bjd i would prob give some of it away as some things were mistake buys or stuff i thought would work but didnt.

    9. Tons of useless stuff in my doll-dedicated boxes x)
      Too many eyes, all the SD wigs I kept but I don't have any SD at the moment, 15 msd wigs for 4 girls now, SD clothes and props...
      I still need msd clothing x)

    10. All I can say is Magic Eraser. So much magic erasers that wouldn't get used until the end of the world. Like how many magic erasers does one need? ;~;

      I ordered one with a Leekeworld order when I first started thinking I would need it just in case (it is important in the hobby after all) but then I kept getting more and more of it for free with other orders :S

    11. Hello. My name is Bright... and I'm an eyeball fiend.

      After being in the hobby for awhile, I've ended up with an entire sectioned bead-box full of spare glass eyes. Some were the default eyes that came with dolls I had different plans for. Some were freebies or "extras" I got with company orders. Some were gifts from a friend who collects antique dolls and has a habit of picking up old blown glass lots when she goes to shows. Some I bought to use with a specific doll, but found they didn't fit or the color was off once I tried them. Others are here simply because I saw them, said "Oh, now THAT's a cool color/pattern/combination" and bought them with the expectation of maybe someday finding a use for them...

      All that adds up after a few years.

      I've also ended up with quite a horde of spare wigs (Mostly due to buying them for a specific doll and finding out once they arrive that they're not the least bit suited to their intended wearer... <_< ), but the wig stockpile isn't quite as extensive as the eyes.

      The eyes really are ridiculous. >_>

    12. I don't really have much excess stuff. I
      have one pair of eyes that I had intended to change Nadeko's default pair to but when she came I really loved her with her defaults and I still haven't even attempted to change them. She has 2 extra wigs (one of which I don't really love but can't be bothered to sell because some future doll might need it someday) and I do occasionally change them when I start freaking out about potentially ruining her default ^^;
      I have 2 pairs of shoes that I change every few months and they're different colors and styles so not really excess. BJDs can never have too many clothes though, Nadeko has an outfit for every day of the week (including 2 pairs of pajamas) and I still don't think that's enough!
      She doesn't really have a lot of props though, just some stuffed animals, a cup that I made for her in ceramics, a little book, some eraser food and a few other odds and ends.
      Oh and she has extra hands that are changed every now and then and I'm sooo tempted to buy her more! Just like clothes you can never have too many option parts~

    13. I've managed to avoid most of the overflow of stuff here, but there's a couple of cases where I've definitely got extras. I have a ton of spare eyes laying around; all my dolls have specific characters in mind, and not only do any default eyes they include not match those intended characters, they also tend to not be of the style I prefer anyway. So each doll's eyes get swapped out for ones purchased specifically for that character... and in the meantime, I have enough eyes laying around that I can usually find one that suits them until the eyes arrive, if I haven't already gotten them!

      I've also ended up with quite the stash of casual clothes. Most of my collection is MSDs, and back when Build-a-Bear Workshop had their "Friends 2B Made" line, the clothes were a good, if not perfect, fit for most minis. So I bought some. And then I set up a buying service, to get clothes for lower shipping than the online store charged, which got me a lot of rewards points, which was spent on more clothes. And I'd also find ones I liked while doing pickups... and buy more clothes. No mini ever goes naked on arrival... I wish I could say the same for the other sizes!

      And the last point where I've ended up with a lot of extra stuff... resin. I have spare (sleeping) heads/faceplates, extra horns, extra hands, extra body parts, and extra wings. (I want more wings.)

    14. I have to many shoes xD But then again, there is no 'too many shoes'

      If you count cheap glass eyes that cost only like 5 bucks a pair and other mediocre eyes that were included or gifted, then I do have too many.

      I definitely have too many eyelashes, but I bought lots on purpose just so I could use them freely when doing practice face-ups without having to feel bad.

      In regard to how many dolls I have I don't have too much stuff currently I think, but over time it'll end up like that cause I'm a real collector/hoarder xD

    15. I have tons of extra stuff right now. All those hands, eyes and wigs tend to pile up. I'm picky with wigs and eyes so I end up getting several before matching a wig for my dolls.

    16. Eyes, I have so many eyes!

      More than I need for my crew, but I'm keeping them for any new dolls...but...somehow...they just don't work out and I end up buying a new pair... I'm sure they will come in handy someday....

    17. Me too! I have tons of eyes! and I do have a couple of jointed hands floating or the regular hands.
      Some wigs, but not as much as eyes.

    18. Umm... You know those ikea expedit/kallax cube things? I have 3 boxes that go on there full of wigs. And at least that of clothes! Eyes too, plenty of them but they're small and actually organised (I even have a lot of the empty cases or bags labeled with little slips refering which doll has that pair of eyes), but the wigs are just... a jumble. The clothes and shoes are in between organised and a jumble.

      I already knew I was a hoarder and a packrat - my fabric stash and craft-stuff stashes are enormous too so it is no surprise to me I have an excess of doll stuff. I really should get rid of a lot - I've just moved house and it was so painful. :(

    19. Well, I just bought like six wigs to topi it to the event amount lol xD But i only have one bigger box filled with them (I have 5 dolls so it's alright:)

      Like most of you above, I also love having eyes :D But, having my bjds all sleepyheads as I have (I'll keep the openeyed Jina head but dunno why - out of sentiments now:) I'm still keeping like 6 pairs of eyes for this one open-eyed doll head I'm not gonna use anyway xD Sope... I just keep them because they're pretty and it'd be too expensive to reboy them in future, had I decided to resell them.

      Also, I have some tons of clothes. And three boxes of shoes (but that's not excess - that's a feeling of security:) I just like re-dressing them frequeantly, that's all:) But, altogether, they do have more clothes than me :3

    20. I have a lot of eyes and wigs. I have several that came as gifts or that I bought because I thought they were beautiful, so I won't sell them but they're not being used by a doll and might never be. I do tend to thin out the collection occasionally, but it's nice to have extras for incoming new dolls if I'm not sure what to get them yet. My collection of extra resin parts is starting to get pretty big, too.
