1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Anyone else keep redoing faceups?

Jul 21, 2022

    1. Yes, I do, when I somehow feel that the doll needs freshening up or if she needs a change of vibe. But it doesn't happen with all the faceups. Some I let stay, because I'd be too scarred to change the doll's vibe.

    2. I'm still new to faceups, but I'm not new to being an artist. I feel like the style of doll I like is *slightly* easier to do than most other dolls (I prefer anime-style dolls). But I've had to redo my first and second doll heads once because I sprayed too much Mr. Super Clear on the first one, and the second one I put blush on and she looked like a clown. :...(

But, I've found that Winsor & Newton's Brush Cleaner and Restorer is WONDERFUL for removing faceups quickly and safely. It works better than acetone and rubbing alcohol. Just make sure you test it in an inconspicuous spot first (like the head cap) to make sure it doesn't interact with the resin. And wash it off with soap and water afterwards.

    3. I think I have a bit of the opposite problem, or a problem halfway to it? I keep wanting to redo the faceup I've done on the head I have but I also don't want to wipe my work off quite yet LOL I'm eternally conflicted!!

    4. Definitely. And I've also wiped a perfectly fine faceup, tried to remake it better, and actually made it worse and then regretted wiping. I had this phase last year where I went from painting all my dolls and some of my friends' dolls too, to not even being able to paint my own dolls because of having so negative thoughts about my skills. For a year, I sent all dolls to a professional faceup artist but still ended up editing the faceups because they weren't 100% how I would have done them, even if they were a good base to work on. Looking back now, I love the last faceups I did before my art block, and can only wonder why did I quit. I have begun painting again, and I hope I restore my previous skill level some day, but before that, it will definitely take some attempts again.

    5. I think I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum here. Once I feel like I've gotten it 'right', I'm terrified to change it! I have a few that I was unhappy with that I did more than once but, generally? Once they look OK, I call it a day.
