1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Anyone not into anime, but into BJDs?

Aug 19, 2009

    1. The only manga/anime I ever got into was Full Metal Alchemist. I love the story. It is more serious and less silly than others I've seen.
I had no knowledge of manga or anime until my niece and nephew had me make them cosplay costumes for ComicCon. This was 12 years ago. My nephew went as Edward Elric and my niece went as Roxis from Kingdom Hearts. To make Edward's costume, I had to watch the anime. I got hooked.

I have no interest in having a doll from anime or manga. What I do like is computer games, specifically Final Fantasy VII. I would love to have dolls of my fave characters from that game.

    2. I’d definitely say I’m the same! I loved pokemon and Digimon growing up, but I think the only anime I watched after that was maybe a quarter of Naruto and a film called Summer Wars (as well as the Ghibli films but I’m not sure if they count?)

I also never really liked dolls growing up either to be fair (though I did always want an action man to go with the plastic dinosaurs I loved :XD: )but I now have a real interest in BJDs specifically. It’s a weird progression but I think my interest in BJDs is probably more from my being an illustrator / creative than from the collectible route. Interesting to think about for sure!

    3. I do not like anime and i am not into anything else asian either. I simply like dolls. I don't think you need to be into asian anything or anime to like a type of doll, most of the companies just happen to be based in asia. Some people collect barbies and i don't think they are obsessed with american culture.

    4. The only anime I've ever watched was Rozen Maiden, and I watched it because I liked BJD and it was about dolls, not the other way around. There were parts of it that were kind of cool, but overall I really couldn't get into it. Anime is definitely not my thing at all-- nor is really any Japanese or Korean pop culture stuff, like manga, or K-pop, or any of the similar things I see a lot of BJD collectors being super into. It's totally fine for those who like it...just not really my bag. I'm more your history buff/black metal music/Tolkien/Elder Scrolls flavored nerd :XD:

    5. Yerp! I periodically try to watch some anime or other... it's just not for me. I mean it's okay? but there are so many other things I'd like to devote my attention to.

    6. I'm not an animal fan - which is why my doll's look like actual humans. But I enjoy seeing other people's animals dolls - I just don't want any for myself.

    7. I had a phase in high school where I was really into anime. Back then, it wasn’t widely dispersed or accepted. There was all of one place in Atlanta where I could find Sailor Moon manga and I was only able to get there once every few months. I’m not super into anime anymore. Sailor Moon and works by CLAMP are the only ones I still enjoy.

Really, my love for BJDs doesn’t stem from my juvenile love for anime and manga, although I first became aware of their existence because of lingering interest into adulthood. My love for BJDs is a direct descendant of my love for dolls. I love all dolls. I love miniature things, the more realistic the better. I’m not into very anime-looking dolls, actually. My dolls aren’t hyper realistic human-looking but they’re definitely not anime-looking at all.

Having an interest in manga and anime may be common among BJD owners but I think it’s more an appreciation and love for dolls that draws people in and keeps them collecting over interest in anime.
