Anyone not into anime, but into BJDs?

Aug 19, 2009

    1. Not into anime, manga, Japanimations, Chinanimations, etc. Asian music, or even Asian cuisine!

My fiance, who is not into the dolls, watches a lot of anime. But I don't care for it at all.

I am just one of those doll collector peoples here.

    2. The only Asian stuff I dig is the food and the BJDs. I've never been into anime or manga and I know I never will be. lol But give me sushi any day of the week and I'm a happy girl. ;)

    3. You're most definitely not alone. My interest in BJDs came about after I started collecting off topic dolls. I *love* articulation and the posing that's possible with it, so for me it was just a matter of time before I gravitated this way. The beauty of the sculpts and the endless possibilities with customizing is what will keep me.

    4. i'm not into anime or any other things like that either. i got in to bjd's because i loved how they could pose, and i tend to prefer the dolls that are realistic as possible. (which must be why most of my dolls have smaller wigs sizes than is "normal" for their sizes ;)

    5. I was never a big fan of anime/manga and these days I have zero interest in it at all! I'm also not a fan of dolls that have the anime like; Dolfie Dreams and the like. They...creep me out a little. :sweat

    6. i kinda like some manga, but im not really an anime fan tbh.

    7. I'm don't care for anime either, but really like BJD. However, prefer the ones not so anime or cartoonish. I like some of the elf/fairy ones but mostly ones that look human.

    8. i used to be pretty into it, now I don't really read any manga or watch any anime

    9. My first post! Yay! Oh. I hope it's okay I post here for that...

      Anyway!
I used to be pretty big into anime. I was the dreaded "otaku" girl. Never to go so far as to scream out random Japanese phrases, though. No "KAWAII DESU NE" for me! c':
And I've been wanting Dollfies/BJDs since I was in 5th grade!
I'm in college now! College, me! I can't believe it!
And, while I still don't have a doll--I did finally order one today! My first!
She should be arriving to be by, or early, December!

Now a days, I watch some series, and I do cosplay!
As of two years ago, I made it a -ritual- to go to Otakon (MD) EVERY year!
And I cosplay all three days.

But, does this affect what I want out of a Dollfie/BJD?
      Nope. c:
Sure you can get a Dollfie Dream, that is anime based, and that's fine, for you.
I do not want one for the reason that I like anime.
I want my doll, to have. It's been a dream of mine to own one, maybe two.
I'd like to have a boy AND a girl..
      Ideally?
I'd love to have this one I'm ordering, a boy...
And then three others. One girl, and two boys--
to model after my lovely three cats. So that, in a way, after they pass,
they can 'live on' thru those dolls.

c: So in short, if TL;DR...
Yes, I like anime and manga.
No. Anime does not affect my interest in dolls.

      <3

    10. I used to be SUPER MEGA INTO anime and manga. I read mangas like religious text and watched anime all the time. But I hit college and that sort of dropped off. I still love it - I'm still watching a few serious, and I still love manga style (though I long ago gave up drawing in that style and am developing/developed my own), I'm just not as into it as I used to be.

I never really saw the link between BJDs and anime - other than the fact a lot of people happen to be into both. It's not a prerequisite or anything, just a coincidence. In research, it would be a correlation between the two, not a cause/reason why it happens. I personally don't think my liking anime has to do with my being in the hobby.

      And I don't like BJDs with the big anime eyes - they look rather freaky to me. <W<;

    11. I don't like animes. 2 episodes are enough to make me dead sleep regardless of any genre, but I do read mangas that is not more than 3 volumes though. And despite being a huge fan of J-rock and Japanese culture, none of my dolls are influenced by it. I don't think liking anime has anything to do with liking BJDs though.

    12. I do not like anime :| I can not understand it and I can not seriously sit there and watch.I giggle at this and then I'm really bored to sleep.MaybeI'm too old for this ^^
But I love BJD very much :D

    13. I find Anime cartoons ot be so overly dramatic. i was watchign aduld swim the other day and wondered what people saw in shows like Pokemon, iyunahsa (spelled that wrong) and some of the other Anime stuff that goes on. I love BJDs of more humanoid proportions and the giant headed giant eyed ones kind of scare me as poopsed to enticing me to buy them.

With all that said i do angree that to heach his or her own and I don't rag on anyone elses doll. I just look at them, smile, and then on to the next doll with more believable proportions.

    14. I'm allowed to be into both right? I'm not a crazy fan of anime and to be frank, I'm into BJDs more than I am into anime. :sweat Neither of my hobbies really have much to do with each other. Dollfie dreams don't appeal to me at all and they're as close to anime you can get in physical form. None of my dolls have that anime-esque stylized look to them either.

    15. that it is!
I used to watch anime a but when I was 13 but quickly got tired of it.
there seem to be a lot of "fanservice" which I am not found of and something silly I noticed about that really annoys me: everytime time caracter A says something "dramatic" (it's often neither dramatic or interesting, but it is presented in a midly dramatic way) the other character has to say character A's name in a kinda shocked/surprised voice. IN EVERY DAMN ANIME XD almost every episode. <.<

but enough of the rant. I just don't like anime. I don't really care about japan but I like a few bands from there. and that's all.
and that may be why I am more into realistic looking dolls ^_^

    16. I know some of the dolls seem to come out of anime, but I didn't really make the connection that anime and bjd were totally entwined. I have no interest in anime, or cartoons in general, except to keep my son company when watching televison.
I came to the bjd's through a love for miniatures, then dolls, and now here I am.
It's nice to know that the two (anime and bjd) can go hand in hand, but don't have to.

    17. I was into anime and manga when I was at that young teen age. I'm well over it now, and all of the popular stuff these days seems really weak and irritating (I still love me some Miyazaki, though). I'd like to think I can't understand the mania, but I can. I was like that once. It makes it worse.
I came to BJDs in adulthood, and via a different route, haute doll magazines and such. I guess that because a lot of the dolls are made in Asia, they share an aesthetic with anime. This renders them far more refined to my eye than Western dolls, I find. The more overtly anime-esque they get, though, the less they appeal to me.

    18. I watch anime from time to time and read mangas, but that's not the reason I got into BJDs. I got into BJDs because I love collecting dolls and it's been a hobby of mine since years ago. In fact, I don't like BJDs that look anime-ish or too cute-ish (<--- unless they're YOSDs!). I like more realistic looking BJDs.

    19. Like many, I'm a larger fan of BJDs than I am of anime, but I do like two or three series. Granted, they're super short and kinda bizarre ones like FLCL, but some anime is alright with me lol. Some anime films, too, a couple are alright.

    20. I LOVE ANIME! Originally I was a figure collector before moving to BJDs. I find you can do much more with them than figurines. I am more into dollfie dreams because of their anime style and have yet to own a doll like super dollfies. Maybe in the future. :sweat
