1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Are dolls seen as children?

Nov 23, 2009

    1. I think for me there is a huge difference between BJD's and children. For me BJD's are a creative outlet (costuming and such). I want to have kids (and keep my BJD's out of their range for the first years) and I think real kids are a lot more demanding.
Btw, I do own two second hand baby dolls, bought to serve as physreps in Live Action Roleplay. One of my characters is ver very pregnant :P

    2. I kind of do. Well maybe not so much children, as something to take care of. I really like having something to take care of. I know I can't have a baby (I'm 18 and just not ready), but I can have my pets and my dolls. But they're definitely not as important to me as living things. But I have read something about a so called "baby fever" that even younger girls get and I think if they can channel their baby wantings into a doll we should be grateful.

    3. Dolls seen as children? lol. No, I think they are more than just 'children'. To me they are more of like a hobby, and an interest.. also, not just a simple collection that you can just play with. Although, they are treated as such some times.. caring for them, watching them, getting items for them, etc. The side of quality is much more different to me though, it's just how they are treated that they are considered 'children'.

    4. Sounds like a total lack of understanding! To me my dolls are art! Soothing, calming and allow an outlet for creativity! What a great discussion here!

    5. I think people who don't understand the hobby and take an immature look at it could use that as a jab? But other than that....no. XD

    6. for me my dolls are not my children. I love my dolls cause of the fact i can combine two hobbies in one: sewing and photographing
sure my mom asked me about what i am doing here and if it's not better to have children than dolls. lol

    7. I think for me, it's this question that makes me not particularly want to share the fact that I enjoy owning bids. I'm an artist, I'm crafty, I create pieces of art for them to wear/have around them. It takes skill to do what a lot of us do. It's a hobby or a way we can make a little extra money while doing something we actually have fun working on! I don't understand why all of that is sort of put off to the wayside in favor of the concept that I must be a weirdo with more cats than dates and dolls as my only companions. And I don't even particularly like kids, I don't have any, nor would I ever want one. so no, this bjd isnt my child, I treat it better...>_>

as a side note, I do own a dog, she's pretty amazing, and when people refer to me as her "mommy" my natural reaction is, "EW! No. We're just friends.." So maybe I just have an aversion to being thought of as having that much capacity for responsibility....just a thought. <shrug>

(no children, cats, or dogs were harmed in the typing of this message, my nieces and nephews adore their auntie mame and auntie mame adores them; now, I need to excuse myself to go walk my buddy) ;)
