1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Are you a collector or a hobbyist?

May 13, 2024

    1. Somewhere in the middle, although I lean collector and try to stave off the collecting instincts. I like giving my dolls personalities and the idea of doting on them, and having too many spreads my attention thin.

    2. I am a collector who plays with their dolls (change clothes, wigs, photography, outings, shopping, etc.). I don’t believe I need to catch em all because I am too broke for that but I enjoy going to conventions and doll meets when they occur in my area to talk about my dolls and learn about others. Went to a doll museum with one of my dolls last week.

    3. Hobbyist I suppose. I really like using him for sewing clothes and photography. With how nicely sculpted he is I think it would be a shame not to handle him.

    4. As it stands I'm more of a collector, I collected fashion dolls long before BJDs so for a while I just really fell for how much each doll is it's own piece of art, and my first few dolls were purchased for aesthetic reasons and after owning them for a while they developed their own characters. I would like to become a bit more of a hobbyist in the future, by way of creating more for my dolls and doing more mod work. I want a highly customized look for my oldest OCs, and so I feel they deserve a more hobbyist approach so I can rely on my own skills more in bringing them to doll form just as I want them!

    5. I guess I'm more of a collector.

My hobby is more looking for outfits and wigs and eyes for all my dolls rather than making them myself.

    6. I tend to oscillate between both though I guess I’m a collector at heart. I like the idea of being able to customize dolls in the way that I want but I definitely seek out specific sculpts as I wish to add to add them my collection. With BJD’s I feel like I’m out of the pokémon “gotta have ‘em all!” phase and moved into focussing on just the dolls I have. Maybe I’ll start buying again someday but currently there’s nothing that’s tugging my heartstrings.

    7. Hobbyist I think, not really sure what I am. I see something, get a strong feeling that it will fulfil some idea or need or whatever, become fixated for a while then either talk myself out of it or end up acquiring said item. It’s always based on its own merits and not because it will ‘fit in’. That goes for anything not just dolls.
I have some of my dolls sitting on a shelf but not in a display as such. Somehow I’ve managed to acquire way more bjd than I thought I ever would. *_*
