Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Are you bothered by seams????

Apr 12, 2010

    1. Nope. Not bothered a bit. Most of mine if they aren't sanded on the seam lines, have lines that aren't that bad or are covered by clothing. I don't like to sand either because of the dust, but I guess I don't sand mine because it doesn't bother me at all.

    2. The seams on my dolls never bother me. I personally don't think they are a big deal.

    3. I am a little bit; it kind of ruins the aesthetic for me on the arms and legs when they're bare. I try to lightly sand them down, and it's an easy fix. The only one who had seams is my Delf Yder.

    4. When my doll arrived from minoruworld with seams I was bothered! The body well it will be covered in clothes anyway, but the arms and legs bug me most! I think for $$$, they should pay more attention to these details! =|

    5. The seams definitely bother me and I think that the companies should do it for free, when we are already paying so much for these dolls. But I don't know, I kind of get used to it after a while.

    6. I expected to get seams so I wasn't too bothered, but I'd still pay to have them sanded off. c:

    7. I agree with this, I think sanded seams should come standard in my opinion, it's the least the companies can do considering the cost of these dolls.

    8. One of my boys has pretty crazy seams. He was relatively inexpensive so I guess that does not quite match up to even the $400 dolls people are buying, but it would have been nice, on the part of the company's reputation, that he has these easy to fix imperfections.

Personally, it does not bother me all to much. I sanded down the leg ones most of the way, but not thoroughly. I might touch it up still. After having him for about a month and a half, I only noticed that he has very drastic seams between three of his fingers. I hold his hands a lot, so it surprised me that I never noticed all the uneven resin. I guess I'll fix it eventually. Right now, it's really not a nuisance.

    9. If it's not really ugly and noticable much on my doll pohtos then I'm ok with the seams.

    10. I'm a little bothered by seems. But I guess I can fix them.

    11. Small seams don't bother much, however, if the seams are obnoxious, then I'll have someone else do it for me.

I'm so paranoid about messing up my doll.

    12. I'm not a fan of the seams. My first doll was a silky smooth Bobobie, so the seamy, rougher resin of my Puki was definitely different. I'm pretty diy with the dolls, but I really don't want to sand seams, especially on a tiny Puki!

    13. Raven's seams aren't very noticeable, so they don't bother me, but I do think that companies should sand them for free D:

    14. Seams didn't bother me a while ago, when I first starting getting dolls . . . I don't think I really even noticed them tbh. But then when I got a doll that came with the seams already sanded, I immediately noticed the differenence and the seams on my other dolls started to bug me to the point where I had to sand them all off, since they just felt 'incomplete' compared to my already sanded ones. I think being an serious perfectionist doesn't help in these situations hahaha xD;;

    15. Definitely not. I know this has been mentioned over and over again, but these dolls are not expensive considered the amount of work that it costs to produce one copy and the price of the materials. I can say from experience that if you want to make dolls for a living: don't. It isn't worth your time and it will not give you a decent income.

Expecting companies to do the sanding for free will only result in higher pricetags and/or long delays.

    16. Pretty much. At first, I thought oh, it's the nature of the doll, but since I sanded my first doll a year/two years ago, I haven't stopped

It actually makes me lean towards smaller dolls - I can get a 26cm fully sanded within an afternoon, but sanding the Super Gem reduced me to whining over the kitchen sink going "Whyyyyyy!"

The one complaint I do have about the seams is when it's on a tan/grey/coloured doll. Some companies are notorious for having extremely bad seams, and I just wish they lined up the molds better to reduce them.

    17. Well, for me I think it would depend on how big and noticable they were, I mean, small seams would be somewhat alright with me, but no seams would be best of course, more realistic. Real breathing people don't have seams, do they? >>

    18. I don't like seams.. They aren't too noticeable on my PD, but I much prefer RS and BBB because they always get rid of seams. It's just so nice to not have to deal with that at all or pay any extra to get rid of them.:aheartbea

    19. Actually Im not at all, except if theyre sharp and are likely to cause me damage then I will sand them myself. My new Dia has hideous seams though, its the first time I have really noticed seams as theyre quite deep. If I sand one seam then Ill sand them all, or if Im sanding one doll and the others are around I might do the same. Its not something I fixate on.

    20. nope, i've been in the hobby for a few years and so far they haven't really bothered me although i will admit i sanded the seams on my first doll because i thought it was something that MUST be done but since i've discovered that it's more preference than anything else i'm not bothered by them nor feel the compulsion to sand them.
