It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Are you bothered by seams????

Apr 12, 2010

    1. I don't have a doll yet but if i could choose, i preffer a doll with no seams of course, because if i'm paying that money i want something of high quality but if a doll really likes me i don't think seams will be something to don't choose that doll

    2. I used to get bothered by them, so I sanded my first doll & have my second doll sanded by Volks. Eventually I got over it & now most of my dolls are not sanded.

    3. I'll admit, one thing I love about Dollfie Dreams is that they never have seams. :D Don't have to worry about it at all with them.

That being said, the idea of seams doesn't bother me too much--on resin. This is because if I get a resin doll in the future, if some seam or other is glaring, I can get a respirator, crack out the sandpaper, and fix the issue. I like it when, if something is not to my tastes, I can do something about it. And, as others have mentioned, companies do often offer sanding for an extra fee if you feel they should be the ones to take responsibility. It's a sensible system.

Which is why the qualifier "on resin" is up there. I can't stand seeing seams on expensive silicone DD option parts, because other than trimming off the flash, there's not much you can do about it. Paying $100+ on an option part with an obvious, completely unfixable flaw makes no sense to me, and seeing the seams in photos kind of irritates me on the owner's behalf. A little nuts, but that's how I feel.

    4. Depends on the seam. If the seam is really thick it bugs me.

    5. I am really bothered by seams. My first doll didn't have any so it wasn't an issue, but the second that I bought secondhand from here had seams, and when I first first took her out of the box I knew they would have to come off. Some of the areas I have sanded down are a slightly lighter color than the rest of her resin, which surprisingly doesn't bother me nearly as much as the seams did, but I might sand her down completely in the future to get rid of what I assume is yellowing.

    6. I am a newbie here and only have 1 BJD so far....Layla Elf by Kaye Wiggs. It wasn't until I read this thread that I even thought about the seam lines. Being a porcelain dollmaker, I know what a pain it is to sand the porcelain seams and it too is hazardous if you sand them in the dry stage...but, with it being porcelain, the job is necessary and is very time consuming. As for the BJD's, it would not bother me if there were slight seam lines as long as I knew they would be there when I ordered the doll. These dolls are very expensive and I would not be happy if I were to recieve a doll with really thick, noticable seam lines if I was not aware that they would be there. If they were just little and if you really had to look to see them, it would not bother me.

    7. As has been said in this thread before, seamlines are not the result of poor quality, but a natural side-effect of the casting process.

    8. Bothered me a little seam lines on my existing Hana (Cherie Iplehouse):( up because her body is so beautiful, it has not happened with the boys I have came perfect, no line. Dolls are so expensive, all houses should do the sanding services.

    9. I'm not bothered by seams at all. Unless they're really jaggered or sharp then they do, but so far none of of my dolls has had them that bad. In fact most of them don't really have seams at all, such as my Soom tinies. I did know about them since my first doll was from Volks and they pretty much emphasis about them and how you can do it yourself. It might have made a difference if I wasn't expecting them at first, but since I do it's not a problem for me.

    10. Oh... it bothers me to no end and I don't know why. I can't help but to stare at them. I have to get them sanded down at some point, or I'll go nuts! Luckily, the seams on my new arrival, Josephine, aren't all that bad. At least they're not sharp or get stuck in her clothing.

    11. I'm not bothered by them in the least, in fact, to me my boy wouldn't feel right if he didn't have them. I can see why someone would be bothered if they're really sharp or annoying with clothes. My sisters doll has a few sharper ones though, but she doesn't mind them either.

    12. I never notice seams unless they're extreme, so no I'm not bothered by them. If the company sands the doll before they sent it to me, I'm happy, but if not I won't really care. :)

    13. YES!!!! thus all my dolls who have seems get a solid sanding from me xD...

    14. I'm on the fence, so I guess that means they don't bother me too much. This was interesting reading the different reactions to seams. I'm wondering, if sanding can cause uneven aging discoloration, is that true only of "home"-made sanding? Or even if the company sands them?

In that case, seams are not a good thing is you don't want to look at them. Currently, I'd say I'm not fond of them, but unless pretty severe I can over look them. We "overlook" their joints in the sense that is what makes them what they are.

    15. My doll has a lot of visible seam lines and I'm not bothered by it because I like it there. XD;; OTZ

    16. If they are subtle seams then they don't bother me too much. But when they look like the Grand Canyon, they are immediately attacked by the dremel.

    17. I dont mind seams at all. To me its just the characteristic of the doll. Makes it slightly more unique. Like I told my friend "No two dolls have the same markings (seams)". lol

    18. Lord yes. It's like hairy legs on a girl. It just grates on my nerves.

    19. I only have one doll right now. I didn't request that he be specially sanded or anything. His seems don't bother me at all. Maybe it's because he's so pale? I'm not sure why but I don't have a problem with them at all.

    20. Seam lines do bother me, but only if I can see them with the clothing they wear. But still, you would think companies would sand out the seams on these expensive dolls without extra charges*_* although seams on the darker resin dolls can't be sanded which is understandable.
