It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Are you bothered by seams????

Apr 12, 2010

    1. I'm not really bothered by seams. My first came with his sanded, my second still had them, but I honestly minded them so very little I didn't even go into the whole deal of sanding them off myself. I suppose that if the seams bother me in any doll that comes at a later date I'll simply spend a bit of time getting rid of them, or making them more smooth. No harm done~ ;)

    2. I am totally agree with topic starter. For that price it is a little bit strange to get a not finished dolls (with lots of seams) but...i can't do anything with policies of companies. that is why I sanded them by myself...

    3. I have been very lucky so far. Not one of my larger dolls has come with excessive seam lines. I can tell when the company is trying to squeeze out a few more castings from a dying mold though, because a few of my smaller dolls have come out with offset seams. The seams do not bother me very much, but I do expect that a bit of resin that I paid for should look like the quality I am paying for. It is not as if we are paying a small $50 for a tiny doll, even for the less expensive ones it tends to be around $100, so I feel that the companies should either keep their molds fresh or charge less for any dolls that have large seam offsets.

    4. Dolls with seams are finished dolls. BJDs have seams - personal taste decides whether you want to remove the seams or keep them, but the presence of seams does not indicate an unfinished doll.

    5. I have always viewed a doll with seams as a finished doll. Some doll owners prefer them and others want to see what the seam lines look like to see how well the doll is cast.

If you never see a company's seam lines then you don't know how well their dolls are really cast-for example uneven seam lines can be a sign of poor casting technique. This is really important for people who do mods as poor casting technique can result in a lot of air bubbles within the resin that can become an aesthetic problem once a few layers of resin are removed. If I can't see what the seam lines look like I get very wary very quickly.

    6. I only have one doll and as far as I know his seams aren't really that bad.

If I got a doll with super bad seams I'd be kind of irritated though, and probably try to find someone who could sand em off for me. I don't have the confidence to do that sort of thing myself.

Then again if they could be hidden by clothes I don't think I would mind SO so much...

    7. No I do not care for any type seems, I have taken the time to "lots of time" to sand them out slowly;)

    8. I, too, only have one doll, a Pipos Po-11, and his seams were barely noticeable. But I still sanded them because I would rather not see them at all. I did leave a little of the seams in his legs, so I will easily know if his legs are not in the right position.

    9. Yes and no, for white and normal skin tone, I could sand them down myself but it's different story when come to a tan doll, thanks goodness I haven't come to that yet.

    10. I don't like them at all. I think dolls look better/more finished if the seams are gone. That's why I love my Chinese dolls (LoongSoul and Angell-Studio) so much - they both came completely sanded at no extra charge. The AS doll is even gray-skinned!

(Because someone already made the point above - I do not think that dolls that still do have seams are unfinished - just that a doll without them has a more polished look.)

      @PurpleMoon:
Your comment makes me wonder about the differences in how tan (and other exotic colored) dolls are manufactured in different companies. LoongSoul and Angell-Studio both do seam sanding on their tan dolls - where I know many other companies do not and warn their customers to only do so at their own risk.

    11. Neither my Ringdoll Petter, nor my BlueBloodDoll Valentine came with seams on them of any kind, so I don't even know what seams on a doll look like i'm afraid. I would be terribly sad if one of my dolls came with seams, if they are noticeable and I was not expecting it, or especially if the company photos of the dolls did not show them.

    12. Yes I am. But there's no problem to me sand the seams by my self.

    13. I am not bothered by it anymore. Before I had my first doll with seams I was bothered by it and it was almost a reason not to get him. But I loved him so much, I got him anyway. And now the seams don't bother me at all. They are a part of him and I'm so used to it that I don't even see it anymore. I am not sanding it down, it's a part of him.
Yet when I got my other doll with seams. It was a whole different matter. Those where not nice closed lines. They looked rather uneven and I was disappointed. I couldn't help comparing him to my Resinsoul doll, who was nicely sanded and in the same price range.

Seams a part of the process of doll making. And actually with that idea in mind. I am not at all bothered by it anymore.

    14. Seams don't bother me, but Im always impressed when a doll company sands the seams as a matter of course, for no additional fee! Loongsoul, and Spiritdoll are two companies that come to mind that do this.

    15. My MNF shushu's head have seam line under her ears, but it's not that visible, so it doesn't bother me.

But if the seam lines are on the body, it probably will bother me because I like to take pictures. I'm don't know how to photoshop and even if I did, I really don't want to have to edit the seam out in every photos I took of the doll >.<

    16. i'm so new to BJD's that this is something you've brought my attention too.. Thank you

    17. My doll has very visible seams on her neck. This bothers me and I would love to have her sanded, but I don't dare to do it on my own.
The other seams don't bother me at all, since they are mostly covered with clothes.

    18. Yes, seams would bother me. Fortunately the seams of my first and for now only doll were completly sanded by the company (and I didn't even requested this because when I ordered him I didn't know some dolls had seams). If one of my dolls had seams I would surely sand them.

    19. I am only bothered by my girl's seams because I can feel them I can't really see them though so I haven't sanded her yet

    20. Seams don't bother me, but I can't understand why does some companiy dont sand it..
I don't sand my doll anyway.
I prefer not.. never know what could happend -_-
