It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Are you bothered by seams????

Apr 12, 2010

    1. My first three dolls I bought, a tan Ringdoll, normal pink Jie Doll and an snow white IslandDoll, none of them had seams. Then I got an HZ head and bought an AOD body to hybrid with the HZ, still no seams. At that time I didn't even know about different skin colors - lucky doesn't describe my doll experiences, the match was perfect.

The first time I saw seams was last year when I bought a 2009 Crobidoll secondhand, he has normal yellow skin and he had what I would call light seams. I was used to my seamless dolls so I spend the time over a basin full of water and wet sandpaper sanding his seams. Now he is seamless and looks great, even at his advanced age the sanded area and unsanded areas matched, he had no yellowing. Lucky.

I am getting a pale tan Dollshe soon and after reading all about them I await the seams and very visible gate sanding I've read about with trepidation.
Has anyone ever sanded an entire pale tan Dollshe body or is the tan just on the outside?

    2. Not at all bothered ^^ mine comes with body blushing anyways, sanding it off would mean blurgh to the whole body blushing lol.

    3. So far, only my IH JID Ryan has seam on his legs, neck and fingers. My other dolls don't have any seam. Many companies make seaming option for an extra charge. But I haven't ordered this service together with my doll because I don't really care and seam on my doll doesn't bother me at all.

    4. The day after I bought my doll, I thought her arm was cracked and I couldn't understand why. I checked her body all over and realised they were just seam lines, this particular line more visible than the others. And first I thought it was a mistake, that the doll wasn't finished or anything. But I learned online that seamlines were possible and that some companies don't get rid of them. I left her in her box for a week after that, but was advised that I shouldn't dislike the doll for being imperfect.. and figured that was true. So now it doesn't bother me at all. I actually believe it's part of her and I wouldn't change it.

    5. I'm a little bothered by seams. I agree, the dolls are high-quality and expensive so I think the companies'd better remove the seam lines. I have two Doll Chateau dolls though and they are very delicate and with no seams at all. But most of the dolls I ever met had seams which I don't really enjoy. I don't remove them myself because I'm not this experienced and courageous but I think the companies should not be asking for any extra for the sean removal.

    6. Nope! Not in the slightest! :)

    7. The short answer is yes. This has kept me from ordering some tan dolls I'd love to have. I'd like to make more dark-skinned characters from warm countries, and some would wear rather scanty clothing, meaning more seams would be visible. If I encounter seam lines on a light colored doll, I sand them. This means a fair bit of time in a respirator mask, doing it in stages and examining each piece after a wipedown with a damp cloth.

    8. So far, all the bjds I've gotten are form companies that sand their dolls, so I've never had to deal with seams. The seam issue wouldn't stop me from getting a bjd though, if it met all the other requirements.

    9. I hardly notice them unless they really stands out, so i guess it depends -XD- beside nothing a little body blushing wouldn't fix.

    10. Actually... one of my dolls had been sanded by the company and because he was in a darker resin...it was really obvious. I would have preferred it if they didn't sand him at all. I've known other people very bothered by the SANDING OF DARK RESIN and some have sent dolls back and had companies replace them. I'm not all that bothered by the seams unless it's so bad that I cut myself on them (then that's just called shoddy workmanship).

    11. None of my dolls had seam lines until I bought my first Fairyland doll. I knew it would have seam lines and I wondered if it would bother me, but it arrived and it wasn't that bad. I thought I might sand some of the more obvious ones a bit myself, but I never did. I now have five Fairyland dolls and they each have some more obvious seam lines but it doesn't bother me at all. As for tan resin, the lighter sanding areas really aren't that bad. They're there and you might notice, but it's just part of what makes them dolls. Seams lines definitely won't keep me from buying.

    12. There was one seam line on my PKF Mio that looked like a small crack until I got a look at it in good light, but it's not in a spot that's going to show unless she does a nude photo shoot. Other than that, I don't pay attention to them, really. Someone in another group was trying to convince me that my tan dolls would have horrible seam lines and sanding marks, but the one that's arrived so far looks fine to me. The only thing that may be a sanding mark is on the back of her head, under her wig.

    13. It depends on the amount and severity. But usually, no, I am not bothered by them.

    14. They kinda bother me, yeah, especially when they show up in pictures. But I make it better by telling myself that they're like the doll's stretch marks or something. Then they're kinda cute lmao

    15. I'm not bothered by a faint visible seam line. A seam line that looked like a crack in the doll or caught on clothing would be an annoyance. A seam line that cut up my hands whenever I tried to handle my doll would not be acceptable to me - but I've rarely ever heard of anyone getting anything that severe, so I'm not worried about it.

    16. Seams don't bother me anywhere near as much as excess resin caught between fingers. This might only be a problem for mature tinies and smaller, but those are the only dolls I have so...

    17. Not in the least. To be honest I don't even notice the seams! My one doll that had his seams removed by Volks does feel a lot smoother, but it never bothered me that the rest weren't like that.

    18. I own a few dolls and hardly see seams on my Iplehouse and Luts however I got my first tan Minifee and the seams on her really bothered me. However, she's super cute.

    19. I hate seams! I remove them asap.

    20. Seams are my worst nightmare. I want my dolls to be as realistic as I can get them and seams are just sooooo obstructive to the rest of the view. My first expensive doll had really harsh seams all over him and it put a bad taste in my mouth. Luckily they are easy to remove, but they will always be my first order of business when I get new dolls from now on.
