Are you bothered by seams????

Apr 12, 2010

    1. Oh no no no. I am going to wait 4 to 6 weeks to FINALLY hold this girl. I am not sending her anywhere anytime soon! Reason why I payed for default faceup, and if there was an option for sanding, I would have taken that, too.
I am very new, and this is my first doll. I am planning on learning how to do faceups myself, among other things, so HOPEFULLY I won't have to send her anywhere :)
But being as new as I am, I would have rather have them (the pro's) do my sanding for me.
But just as I am planning on purchasing an inexpensive head so I can practice painting it and cleaning it and repainting it, perhaps I should buy... I don't know.. a leg... or something... and try sanding that first, to see how the resin behaves. *goes to plot some more*

    2. Once upon a time I thought I'd end up sanding most of my crew. I have yet to do one. ^^; Maybe one day, when I have no more customizing tasks to do . . . whenever that'll be! Heh. Although sanding seamlines has always sounded like a complete pain to me.

Honestly, I just don't even see the seams anymore. They're mostly covered by clothes, and they're such a part of the dolls that it'd be like not wanting to see their joints ever. I don't expect the companies to remove them for free, either. A basic doll is a doll in a box, with occasionally a wig or pair of acrylic eyes included - everything else you have to pay for.

    3. So to sum it up , what are the companies that Dolls come sanded ? I know Dollzone dolls comes very smooth and ....?

I guess for those who don't like seems ( like me) I will just buy those dolls that have no seams.
I'm waiting for a Dollmore Miro which I bought from the Market Place but UTSUMI said her seams are very little so if I really can't stand it I will just have to give some "elbow grease " but maybe it won't even bother me.

    4. I know Doll Family dolls come sanded because I own one. I have heard Resinsoul and BBB do also but I can't be sure as I don't own one yet. Hopefully someone who owns those dolls will jump in?

I'd be curious to know if 5StarDoll also sand their dolls.

I'd like to know which companies come sanded as well.

    5. RS/BBB dolls do come sanded, I have a RS doll, so I would know :3 &I'm not really bothered by seams at all, maybe cause the only one doll I have with seams is always wearing long shirts/pants XD

    6. B&G and Bobbobie both come sanded. Fairyland does not. Although on my pukifee shiwoo only one leg has a slight seam. I'll know about iplehouse in a little bit as soon as my tedros gets here.

Maybe some adventurous person could start a database of sorts of sanded dolls vs non sanded ones for those that are researching doll companies.

    7. I'm not that bothered by seams... if they're not really obvious and sharp. Of all the dolls I've owned only my Angel of Dream doll came with no seams. Every other doll have had some, but they were all so small for me to care.

    8. My doll Klaus came in yesterday, and just today, not a few minutes ago, I saw the seams. I panicked, thinking he was already cracked.

Good to know this is not the case, but it really does bother me, and I know I'll end up thinking he's cracked later on. o 3o

[ He's also extremely well tensioned to the point his legs keep giving me problems, BUT that's a whole other matter. > >

    9. I don't mind sanding seams, I actually enjoy it, so a doll coming with seams doesn't bother me. But I can't sand my tan dolls! Of the two tans my Lishe has a few really jaggy, annoying spots. I've gotten used to them, but depending on what she's wearing you can't see them anyway.

    10. At first I thought I was going to be bothered by seams, but now I've discovered that with most dolls they don't bother me at all. It'd bother me more to end up with a lighter place where the seems were sanded. So, getting the seems sanded by the company is something I'd do (and have done), but I don't think I'd bother otherwise, especially with a doll that's been around for awhile.

    11. normally no. but the seams on my Unoa plate bothers me AS HELL.
i feel them and they are not soft!
i've had CP dolls with visible seams. when i toughd them i felt a little bump and thats all but the seams on my Unoa plate are kinda sharp! and since they're like on the ears and the almost edge of the plate they are harder to sand D:

    12. It does bother me when I see huge seams because it makes me wonder what's going on with the molds. Thin mold lines are fine, but I've seen some gawdawful huge ones and I can't fathom it. Castings made with molds properly registered typically won't have big seams at all, so some of these molds must not have any registration at all. I've certainly seen it many times before and I kind of don't understand why a mold maker wouldn't take that extra step to key the molds so they register, it certainly saves a lot of work in the long run. I should add that I'm speaking of silicone molds, which I have experience with, not metal molds, which I know nothing about. My husband works in an industry that deals with TONS of molds and castings and we also produce our own kits, so I've seen all kinds of crazy mold and casting weirdness over the years. :)

    13. I have a feeling I am going to enjoy sanding my dolls, among other things...
I know I would prefer a smooth doll where I don't feel any poky or jagged parts or anything like that.

Conclusion: No tanned dolls for Gio... :)

    14. Only one of my dolls has seams and they are not really that visible (unless you search for them). My Dollzones and B&G came sanded, my soom Bygg didn't. I was a bit scared that the seams might really bother me and because of the grey skin Soom didn't recommend sanding because of color differences.

If the seams would be really visible or sharp I think I would try to sand them down, even when it's greyskin ... I just don't want to get hurt etx xD

    15. I totally agree with you Cedarheart , although I don't have your experience with moulds. I also make moulds but not professionally just with silicone and polmerclay , I make sure my work is as faultless as possible if I'm going to sell it.
Although it's made by hand so it can't be perfect but I would never sell my piece to a customer that had seams and sand it as smooth as possible , especially big or sharp ones.
I really wouldn't be happy to receive a doll from a company after paying so much and have huge seams or seams that could cut me when I play with her .
I'm sure I can bond with my doll without having to sand her.

    16. I would hate to own a doll that had seams to me that would make them seem unfinished, therefore I would pay the extra to prevent that happening.

    17. Dollmore offers a sanding service, but it was $110, so I didn't get it. :(
I actually can't find any very visible seamlines on my DM doll at all, though. ^^

    18. Seams are fine unless they're huge! >w<

    19. I me self try to get the sanding service when ever I can.
I'm not brave enough to try sanding on my own.
It makes the dolls look cleaner when you put on smaller outfits showing the arms and legs vs outfits that cover them.
I fine the lines too distracting when you spend so much time photographing your dolls in a great location and that just prefect pose that make that doll just look so wonderful and to have the lines stand out in an enlargement of the photo, that is too much of a bummer.

    20. The seams, don't bother me. Every once in a while I'll start to sand them, because I have nothing else to do, but I don't go out of my way to do it. most of the time they aren't even visible because my dolls have clothing that covers them up.
