Arg! Why are all boys so big??

May 28, 2014

    1. What do you think of this trend?

I'm surprised that so many companies are making muscular males larger than 70cm these days. Well... not THAT surprised. It's true that everyone was making a ton of boy-ish 60cm males for many years, so I can understand that it's only natural to try some different styles and looks.

For me, I don't mind, since variety is great! I do think that there is room for that variety in some non-muscular very big guys, though! I know people have wanted more mature mini sized guys, and there have been more of those, but not as many as the super-big muscular guys lately.

I think trends are just trends. They change. We only have to sit and wait if we don't like it. And it's not as if the big tall guys are the ONLY kind of doll that is being made! There is a LOT of choice out there in all types and sizes, and I'm sure THAT trend (for more and different kinds of sculpts) will definitely continue! :)

Personally, the big muscular guys are heavy and take up a lot of space and are hard to find clothes for and to match with other dolls, so I rather wish I wasn't finding some of them so tempting. I would be more likely to buy them if they were a bit less big, but I know there is still a big choice in smaller large dolls, and there are people who like the big muscle boys, so I can't really complain.

Are you dying for some skinny little boys?

Not really. There are way too many dolls I'd like to have and don't have the room and money for as it is...! I really don't have any strong wishes for myself because of that.

Do you love the big super hunks?

I'm not so interested in buying them all, but I do rather like them. I have two EIDs and many dolls over 60cm... so I can't say I dislike hunks. I'm going to try very hard not to be tempted by anything 80 to 90cm, though. That's just too crazy-big! The EID men are tough enough to handle, and I'm fairly strong...

      Do you want more options?

I don't want more options. I have a ton of different types of bjds as it is. I'm trying not to want more dolls!!!! But it's nice to see what the sculptors and designers come up with. If there are more big muscle-men, it's fine with me. If there are more slender, shorter guys, that's fine, too... I'm just trying NOT to look for more dolls, and it's difficult enough as it is without having companies actually trying to make things I want!!! *_*

I do understand the OP's point, though. I think the big bricks of dolls are a bit much for me...

But hey, people do buy them. People like Lusions and those are HUGE, even if they are cute and girly and not big and muscle-y.

I don't mind the soft faces on muscle bodies. It can look a little strange, but it can also be interesting. And there are more mature, realistic choices available.

More choices are always good, but I think the more choices means that some of those choices are things that other people may want but not always ourselves... it's just the way that works! :)

    2. My thoughts exactly :)

    3. I too am really lamenting the loss of the Junior Delfs! I was waiting and hoping for Spica re-release and now that he's available the ONLY body options are too big (at least for me). I'm not a huge fan of the regular Delf body because I don't like the hip joint.

I don't MIND there being lots of beefy guys available, but it seems like it's becoming the ONLY thing available.

    4. What do you think of this trend?

I think that some are going too over the top. For example - I love love love my Loongsoul Farkas, but I have to admit, I wish it were possible to make him look a bit more relaxed :P Like, I find both effeminate and masculine guys attractive - but if the Farkas sculpt was flesh and blood vs resin, I think it would be too extreme.

Are you dying for some skinny little boys?

I think there are plenty of skinny guys out there. It's good to have some balance. I would like to see more mature faces on both slender and muscular men.

Do you love the big super hunks?

      Some of them :)

      Do you want more options?

Who doesn't? Tell you what I would love to see is more muscular WOMEN. Not bulked out she hulk steroid popping muscle - I mean...Xena Warrior Princess or just slender with obvious strength and athleticism. And for goodness sake, smaller breasts o.O

Any ways, thats my two cents :D

    5. I like my skinny little IslandDoll Eric, he is thin and looks to be 13-15 just at or before puberty. He is just perfect for my little brother character.
He is closer to 58cm than 60cm also.

    6. Folks have made a lot of good points here. Variety is the spice of life after all! And, as April said, if I liked all the current doll trends my collecting obsession would be way beyond out of control!! As it is, I am glad I found just the right slightly beefy 70 cm guys for a couple of characters & to match a head. That was enough big guys for me. I can't imagine dealing with an EID or Bishonen, they would make the rest of my doll family look like shrimps! In fact I have 4 67-70cm guys & they can't stand too close to my 65cm Soom fellows. And my 60cm Delfs live on a whole other shelf. X0
For me, I am glad there has been a shift to more interesting head sculpts like Arvid & some of the Dragon Doll guys. I found my guys before this trend by watching for Minimee resales & then had to hunt up bodies to fit their larger rugged good looks.
I have followed a couple of other discussion threads because I'm always looking for alternate, teenage size dolls to work into my families. SO I would be one in favor of more 55-60cm options. For tween girls as well as boys. BUT, I don't really need more resin temptations at the moment. :0
Last fall I was happy to discover the AOD body that I bought 2nd hand was actually shorter than the 58cm the seller had told me. At 56/57cm he works perfect as the 14 yr old I had in mind for my Miho head.
Healthy normal bodies with some muscular definition from 60 to 70cm would be great . As would more options in the 50 to 60cm range with the idea of youthful normal bodies would also be great. And if they came with heads that I liked, that would be even better! Well, until I had to deal with the ongoing dilemma of loving more dolls than I can afford to adopt....:D

    7. What do you think of this trend?
I think companies have started to realize that there is a market for bigger boys. Most companies already have SD13, MSD, and YOSD lines. The only other way they can expand is to go up. I mean, after they release the tiny-tinies (finger-sized dolls) where else can they go?

Yes, I agree not a lot of people like them but if 1 big boy costs $900 while a tiny costs $100, you only need 1 person to like the big boy and 9 people to like the tiny to make even.

Are you dying for some skinny little boys?
Can't say that I am. The males I'm looking for to fill in my characters have to be real buff males with realistic proportions. I've got a few skinnier ones like the Soom SuperGems but that's about the skinniest I would go (maybe a Migidoll M-Series coz I really like their sculpts).

Do you love the big super hunks?
Sure do. But I'm limited to Iplehouse EIDs, Soom IDs, SpiritDoll Herculean & Prouds, and Dollshe 28MClassics. So sizes around 70~75cm.
I probably wouldn't be getting Granado Titans, Soom MechaAngels, IOS Class80s or Leeel 90cms. These are just too much and they're out of proportion.

      Do you want more options?
I actually think having options is better. Even though I prefer big boys, I'm sure a lot more people like the smaller boys. That said, the big boys ARE the option. Since before, you could only get SD13 or MSDs.

    8. Until a few weeks ago my dolls have all been 60cm or below and more cute/young looking but now I got my first EID and it's a whole new world for me. I like the change, though I wish there was more variety in the SKINNY 70cm boys, to this day there are still only a few to choose from.

    9. I DO want more options! The big boys are fine, but I want a few 55-58cm too! Or skinny, not so buff or chubby. Not effeminate, just short or slender.

So. I modded my Angel Street body down to 56cm. I'm pretty happy with him now!

    10. What do you think of this trend?

As much as I like and own some of the big guys, it does seem like most of the new body releases are on the bigger bulkier side. I don't mind it per se but I do just think it's a trend for now. Companies that maybe didn't have a doll in that range are now adding one. Same thing with some companies trying to create mature minis…I wouldn't be surprised that if in a couple years the trend moves to mini dolls..

Are you dying for some skinny little boys?

I'm not dying for skinny boys in particular but I don't mind seeing variety. Because I already have my characters shelled as dolls, I'm less specific about the other dolls I collect - I just buy what I like at this point.

Do you love the big super hunks?

No not in particular. In fact I loved the EID boys when I first started collecting but thought they were too big and focused on the 1/3 (62cm-65cm) range. Then Dollshe blew my mind with his Classic 28 and I couldn't resist the sculpting perfection. The doll is massive and heavy and doesn't fit with any of my other dolls but I bought him because he's stunning.

      Do you want more options?

Not really but I like the idea of options. I think I'm at a point in my collecting that if I love it, I buy it and if that means another muscly guy then so be it.

    11. I am not a huge fan of the well-muscled guys, but I wouldn't mind maybe having one someday for the sake of variety. And I'm not likely to find him, because I don't tend to go looking! He will have to ambush me. I am not averse to new options, especially if they are something I haven't considered owning before.

I'm a big fan of the first DollZone 70cm body (the b70-001), which is lean but not too skinny. It seems to be comparable to the old Dollshe bodies in size. Six of my guys are on that body. The rest of my guys are SD13 or similar in size, except for my Unidoll Jace, who is the bulkiest of my guys.

I like my boys to be taller than my girls, so I am not actively looking for a 55cm boy, but I would like a SD boy to go with my one SD girl! I prefer older characters in general, so all of mine range in age (or appearance) from 13-32 or so, except for my two MSD boys who are around 8 years old.

I agree that generally the faces are youthful looking on many of the 70cm+ guys, but I prefer anime-type esthetics anyway, and I don't mind if my own guys look youngish. I don't want anyone taller than 70cm, and no one bulkier than my Jace (for now).

    12. I like my guys lean too! I really like the look of Bobobie's bodies, because they look so lean. I also wish more companies catered to that. Super muscle-ly men are gross!

    13. It will be interesting to see what size the new Granado Lads body is when they reveal him this week...
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?628236-GRANADO-※-New-Male-Body-Type-Lads-※
the sneak peek looks like they heard us talking about less bulky guys! :0 Now to see how tall he is...in fact, while looking at the Granado site I've discovered they've also added a 58-60cm female body with a small bust option which is just what I've been looking for, for one of my girls.
Looks like there's hope for more body style variety. :D

    14. I personally don't mind the height of the bigger males, but find that I prefer them to be on the more slender side. Not like, 'oh no I can't figure out this doll's gender'?! More along the lines of, yes he is on the thinner side, but he also has a subtle touch of muscular definition in the abdominal area. Don't get me wrong, I like the more define boys too, its just when their muscles start getting less like toned definition, and more like sharp lines, and crevices that they just start looking really unappealing and just plain weird to me...

I would also not be opposed to having more options for smaller male SD sizes... Because not all my male characters aren't meant to stand head and shoulders over others..

    15. My male dolls are built well but - I have a SoulDoll Double Morse and he's like a combination of both. He's thin and nicely built. Clothes tend to swim on him though! cx

My girlfriend has a Delf Jun Ha with a type 4 body and he's rather flat, just not scrawny. Her Ringdoll Andrew is also a thinner/less built doll.

What do you think of this trend?
I love my dolls to have a bit of muscle but what bothers me is when they're completely built. I'm looking at some sculpts like, wow - nice 8-pack. Moving on to something a little less bulky and veiny.

Are you dying for some skinny little boys?
I'd love some skinny taller boys! I'm looking at Doll Chateau and it's as close as I'm getting to a character of ours that needs a really thin body.

Do you love the big super hunks?
Not 'super hunks' but I enjoy all types of doll bodies. I don't like it when they're massive. Er - if I'm even making any sense. A medium hunk is enough for me.

      Do you want more options?
      Always!

    16. What do you think of this trend?
As long as I have options to choose from, it's not too bad.
Are you dying for some skinny little boys?
Not really. I like me some cute faces, but I don't like overly skinny dolls in general. I would have to make an otherworldly creature to care for that.
Do you love the big super hunks?
Also not really. I especially don't like boyish faces on body builder bodies. It has to match the head, really.
      Do you want more options?
      Who doesn't. :XD:

    17. I've been morning the loss of them for awhile now. ; n ;
Junior Delf Terra was one of the first dolls I fell in love with and his Senior counterpart does not make up for his loss.

(I meant to quote, and now it just looks silly! Sorry about that.)

    18. I think Asleep Eidolon still has nice skinny boy bodies available. Like, not even a six pack is visible, and the body is only 62cm. But yeah, I'm all for beefy and ripped boys, but I don't want that being the ONLY option available. Especially since they look kind of silly when the head sculpt doesn't match the body. Effeminate faces with big bulging arms just doesn't look right on HUMANS, let alone on RESIN. :sweat

    19. What do you think of this trend?
I think the larger boys are an increasingly popular option.

Are you dying for some skinny little boys?
Unfortunately I do not care for the super skinny dolls like Doll Chateau, and I prefer dolls that are SD17 and larger, so no, I am not in need of skinny little boys haha.

Do you love the big super hunks?

I do like Mega Gems and Idealians. The new Super Gem body and the Dollshe Pure Body are my favorite bodies aesthetic-wise, and they are a mix between muscular and lean. I like the head sculpts of some Iple boys but I don't care for how the chest joint looks.

      Do you want more options?
      Of course! :)

    20. This is the reason why I sold Iplehouse Claude, he was my dream doll but I couldn't stand the body. I still admire Iplehouse, the faces are lovely but the bodies drive me nuts. (both girl and boy)

The f60 is the perfect body for me and the most i can do is 65cm but skinny like luts bodies or Volks SDGr. I'd love to get a 50cm skinny pretty boy <3
