Artistic Nudity: yay or nay?

Nov 15, 2012

    1. I don't see anything bad in nudism and so on.. but if photos are showing things from -down below only-, not my thing. Photos are more interesting if they've been taken in artistic way, like full body in different poses and with a little tease -I don't see anything wrong with that. :>

I understand the nude photos in doll selling, since it's more informative for buyers, since they can see what they're going to get.

    2. Sorry for the confusion! I only gave pinups as an example of a form where sexuality is the basis for its composition. Since dress in those can range from nude, to minimal, to fully with a peek I'll agree that they aren't really what you mean here. ^_~

In that way, I think that nude reference photos probably don't fit the term either (though they are SUPER helpful!), as their main purpose is to express information instead of as a creative/emotional outlet. Thinking back on photos I've seen here, I think people will often go out of their way to hide or disguise jointing in artistic nude photos (using the doll's hair over the shoulders, or a scarf over their knee joints, for example). I wonder if there are also examples that highlight the joints? Ones that make you see the joint in a really different way. I'm curious now!

    3. Artistic nudity does not bother me. Also, being new to BJDs I appreciate being able to see the different body sculpts, the body blushing and the joint details. The nude artistic photographs I have seen thus far have been really otherworldly and beautiful and very tasteful.

    4. Nudity doesn't bother me. I don't care if it's artistic, tasteful, trashy, pornographic, whatever. It's a body part. It's a doll. I don't get why people have hang ups over it. *shrugs*

    5. I feel sometimes it is needed to see joints, it good for comarisons, as far as an artsy photo, eh, I'd pass by it..

    6. As long as it's tasteful and the picture was taken with the obvious intention of it being art and not something else, I don't have a problem with it. People who make these dolls work hard to put detail into them, and a nice nude photo of a well sculpted doll I find to be quite respectful, like saying "hey look how great of a job the sculptor did."

Tattoos on doll I think are pretty awesome too, and even though that doesn't always mean nudity, when I do see it, I find it quite beautiful. These dolls were meant to be admired in all forms really, so I don’t see anything wrong with it.

    7. I'm with you, personally I feel the world is large enough for all of it. I like some some of the work I've seen on other sites devoted specifically to pushing that envelope as well as the stuff that is more vanilla. I tend to be more interested in the quality of what's being done than in the some judgement of the content. I would rather look at well done dolly porn than poorly done "dolly at a tea party". But I do like looking at well done doll photography that is tame. I'm more interested in aesthetic than moral judgement.

    8. I don't mind artistic nudity but i get really creeped out when it is done with a child-like sculpt

    9. Well said! I agree-- :)

    10. Yay nudes! <3 There are some gorgeously-rendered doll bodies out there, and it's fun to show off their beauty. As long as the content is appropriate for the forum it's being shown on, go for it. Some dolls, it's a crime to clutter them up with clothes at all.

Doesn't matter to me whether people want to make themselves feel more Christian by slapping labels like Tasteful or Artistic or Informational on a nude picture, or whether they go straight for Smutty Bit Of Fun... the doll is naked either way. Who was it who said that the only difference between erotica & porn is good lighting? ^^

      :thumbup

    11. I like nudity in dolls and people. Erotic, artistic, technical - all the kind. Nudity in itself is neutral, the point of view of the person taking picture of nude form is coloring and making an accent.

    12. I don't like nudity regardless of if it's human or not. The only time I really see it as 'okay' to take pix of a naked dolly is when it's being used as a comparison, being blushed/painted, modded, or something on those lines.

    13. Well, I'm a sculptor of dolls, so... YES! I love to see these beautiful bodies and all the sculpting details that went into it. It's great to see the work of a skillful artist. So, informational or pornographic, as long as the pictures are well done, I'm all for it. Let's show off our dolls!

    14. I sometimes find it hard to keep the clothes on some of my dolls... I love the shape of them and think they're beautiful, so yea, I take 'artistic nudes'

    15. I'm not bothered by nudity at all, of any kind. A naked body is just a naked body; it is only society that has made nudity to an offensive thing.
And with all these detailed bodies out there, it's hard to keep the clothes on the dolls at times ;)

    16. I am for nudity all the time via doll, human or mammal. When it comes to dolls though its artistic and creative. To have them posing nude its okay I really don't mind - very open minded here-

    17. For me, it depends on the doll. If it fits their personality, it's fine.

    18. I haven't done it, but my dolls all have child-like bodies and it would just be weird. If I had a more mature-bodied doll, maybe I might try.

I do love actual artictic nudes (with people lol) when tastefully done. So I don't see why a doll would be any different.

    19. I can appreciate artistic nudity. What is so offensive about a naked body? It doesn't have to be sexual. However, sometimes when I see sexual photos of dolls, I feel a bit awkward. This is my own opinion and I mean no offense to anyone when I say so.

    20. I, as someone who is in love with the workings of both human musculature and doll workings, find artistic nudity strikingly beautiful to a degree. Pieces showcasing the workings or natural form of dolls is something hard to achieve and should be thought of as wonderfully gorgeous in my opinion. But, there's a slight line. While I do love the human body (and dolls demonstrating similar aspects), I have no preference or care for lewd pictures. Sexuality has it's place in marketing and shows, but not in art. The only problem is a nude body tends to symbolize sex of some sort, loosing it's original beauty to be replaced with fantasies of the human mind.
Long version short, love human bodies and am perfectly good with nudes, but sexual pictures (especially of dolls) are embarrassing to look at and take our any elegance the form had the potential to hold.
